POPSRepublican Accusations As the brief clip demonstrates, instead of the "sordid" characterizaiton spewed forth by the Repubs, the errors appear to be inconsequential. This is what panic and lack of leadership can do to a campaign. The McCain campaign is showing its true colors and the majority of Americans are not saluting them.

POPSOSHO: Absolutely Free to Be Funny I Love to Disturb People. In a series of excerpts from an interview with Jeff McMullen of Australia’s “60 Minutes” Osho offers a series of one-liners about Gandhi, Hitler, the Pope and Mother Teresa – and goes on from there to talk about his reputation for being controversial, contradictory, and, in the words of the interviewer, “one of the funniest people I’ve ever met.”

POPSWarren Buffett Perfectly Placed for $3Billion GE Play The shares have been hit by a poor performance from its GE Capital Finance arm, which brings in close to half its revenues, and concerns about the outlook for the broader economy. Mr Buffett said: “GE is the symbol of American business to the world. I am confident that GE will continue to be successful in the years to come.” His comments came a week after he appeared to position himself for an investment in GE by giving the group his vote of confidence. At that time, Mr Buffett, who always invests in high-profile companies, pointed out that GE has “strong global brands and businesses with which I am quite familiar”.

POPSPaul Newman, actor who personified cool, dies My deepest sympathy to his wife Joanne Woodward and the rest of his friends and family. "Sometimes God makes perfect people," fellow "Absence of Malice" star Sally Field said, "and Paul Newman was one of them." We will miss our friend Paul Newman, but are lucky ourselves to have known such a remarkable person," Robert Forrester, vice chairman of Newman's Own Foundation, said in a statement. "Our father was a rare symbol of selfless humility, the last to acknowledge what he was doing was special," his daughters said in a written statement. "Intensely private, he quietly succeeded beyond measure in impacting the lives of so many with his generosity." Newman is survived by his wife, five children, two grandsons and his older brother Arthur.

POPSExtremist Sound Bite Arguments This is from a recently debuted syndicated comic strip. I could say that the character of Mamet (the sheep) reminds me a lot of some of the clippers I encounter here on this site, but I won't.

POPSBarbies For War! Anne Heche’s mother, Nancy, talked about her distress when her daughter told her she was involved with Ellen. Jeff Johnston told me he had “a struggle” with homosexuality “for a season,” but is now “happily married with three boys.” (Books for sale there included “Mommy, Why Are They Holding Hands?” and “You Don’t Have to Be Gay.”) “We are one Supreme Court justice away from overturning Roe v. Wade,” he excitedly told me. R. D. Levno, a retired school principal, flew in from Fairbanks. “She’s a child, inexperienced and simplistic,” she said of Sarah. “It’s taking us back to junior high school. She’s one of the popular girls, but one of the mean girls. She is seductive, but she is invented.” I KNEW she reminded me of a "Heather"

POPSUS Teen Suicide Rate Rising Take away the meds from kids and this is what happens. Yet the reason for keeping kids away from psychiatric medication persists however absurd it might be. And the reasons are absurd. If a teenager had a malfunctioning liver, only religious weirdos would say to keep the child off the medication. But when a child's brain malfunctions and there is is a medication that can help, many people cry foul and become suspicious. Why? We are only talking about organs of the body. Just as yellowing skin can be a symptom of a malfunctioning liver, so depression can be a symptom of a malfunctioning brain. The meds can save lives.

POPSThe Presidential Candidates and The "Experience Issue"
The line McCain’s been using “He’s Not Ready to Lead” is still viable – and should emphasize a discussion of Obama’s policies, not his job history—his radicalism, not his resume. Meanwhile, we should invite comparisons of Governor Palin’s experience with Obama’s: won’t the PTA connect more with middle class voters than “community organizer,” and property tax-cutting small town mayor count more than slippery State Senator who voted “present” a disquieting proportion of the time. In any event, both tickets now balance experience with youthful energy – but McCain is balancing it the right way, with the experience at the top. If Obama supporters now see an opening for attack in regard to Sarah Palin’s “lack” of experience, they will only succeed in bringing back to scrutiny Obama’s own leadership (in)experience. Let’s see that “Tale of the Tape” chart that Curt linked to by Jeff Emanuel, http://www.floppingaces.net/2008/08/30/palin-not-the-most-inexperienced/
