POPSGodless Gaffe: North Carolina Candidate Dole’s ‘Faith-Based’ Attack Backfires I'm saddened to see such a blatant bigoted attack on fellow Americans. And I'm also saddened when no one stood up for those whom she truly slandered, the Atheists. Who cares if the person she named in the attack is actually a Christian? It's bad form to misrepresent the person, but to discredit the multitude of Atheist and to have no one point out that Atheists are Americans to. I now have to fight the bile rising in my through. Dole, you don't deserve any respect, and Hagan, Sham on you for taking the low road, and not standing up for ALL of the fellow North Carolinians you profess to represent.

POPSWhy Ayers case is risky for McCain-Palin And what of Palin's associations with the Alaskan Independence Party that wants to secede from the nation, and the statements of the party's founder that are hostile and profess violence towards the United States?

POPSYikes! Libertarian Prez Candidate Bob Barr Praises Jesse Helms. Teresa Nielsen-Hayden goes on: Up until this, I actually had kind things to say about Barr, based on the notion that he’d gone through some interesting changes since being a floor manager for the impeachment of Bill Clinton. Never mind that. I’m obviously a complete idiot. Bob Barr is about as "libertarian" as Jesse Helms was "commit to liberty."

POPSPlatform Fight Ahead for GOP? Jesse Helms may be dead, but his lousy politics live on . There's nothing that Democrats would like better than a big fight over how crazy the GOP platform is going to be. Let the nuts shriek, If the GOP's screwed now, this would hammer a nail in their coffin.

POPSThe true heart of the conservative movement Of course as tends to be the case with Helms' most repugnantly racist bile, he said that a good ways back in the past. But even at that time, most Americans managed not to be repugnant racists. But not Helms. And unlike a lot of people who did take the white supremacist line in the 1950s and 60s, Helms never apologized and, indeed, never backed down doing things like mounting a filibuster against making Martin Luther King Day into a federal holiday. Remarkably, mainstream American conservatives are eager to tell us that this man is their hero. Even more remarkably, you sometimes hear conservatives talk about reaching out to black voters.

POPSJesse Helms is Dead Mike Signorile definitely speaks for many LGBT people and our friends in his July 4th blog posting. Although, as I said in a piece I clipped yesterday, I do not take joy in the death of another human being. But in the case of Helms, it is hard to find even a core of sympathy or remorse at his passing. In his professional lifetime, he sent many innocent and good people to their deaths due to his hatemongering and homophobia. If he could not cry for us, how can we cry for him?

POPSTHE Bigot is Dead Jesse Helms was a disgraceful representation of an elected official in our country. He despised blacks, gays, lesbians, hispanics and everyone who did not look like him or believed as he believed. While I never take pleasure in the death of another human being, it is my sincere hope that with his death, another layer of bigotry in the U.S. is buried with him. I have to think that maybe seeing Obama on the brink of the presidency may have been just too much for his aging heart to take.

POPSJesse Helms is Dead at At Age 86 He is low on my list of likable ex-Senators. A cultural conservative to the max. But I do give him credit for putting the kabash on the proposed Reagan-Ford co-presidency proposal. I once met a female former ex-lobbyist who told me "Back in the day Jesse Helms was the biggest ass pincher in Washington." She alleged to be one of his pinchees. I wish I had something good to say about the man, but I don't. I'm sorry for his passing. I suppose the fact that he died on July 4 will play as a "sign" from the Almighty among the cultural conservatives.

POPSMartin Luther King Jr. Day Martin Luther King Jr. Day - marking the birth date of the Rev Martin Luther King, Jr. - The campaign for a fed. holiday in King's honor began soon after his assassination. Ronald Reagan signed the holiday into law in 1983, - was first observed in 1986 - It was officially observed in all 50 states for the first time in 2000. RELUCTANCE TO OBSERVE THIS DAY Jesse Helms (R-N C led opposition to the bill and questioned whether King was important enough.... He criticized King's opposition to the Vietnam War and accused King of having communist connections. Ronald Reagan was also opposed to the holiday. He relented in his opposition only after Congress passed the King Day bill with an overwhelming veto-proof majority (338 to 90 in the House of Representatives and 78 to 22 in the Senate). MORE HERE: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Luther_King_Day Some years ago, I made this page to honor this man... .http://www.geocities.com/stajam2000/king/mlk.html

POPSThe SPP, NAFTA & the North American Union. As the North American Union gets closer and closer to a reality, the media seems to be unconcerned...as many Americans do. Personally, I find it quite disturbing that our government officials are taking part in an unsigned (as the US claims) contract with Canada and Mexico.
