The Illusion Of Hope Triumphs
merrie
by merrie  11-15-2008    4
The rout of our democracy by a combination of Marxist idealogues and arab cash is now well underway. Our republic is about to be subverted from within. Obama will preside over the greatest expansion of the federal government since the New Deal tilting it farther to the extreme left and towards the model of a failed european socialist state with all the concomitant dependence on government welfare. The current financial crisis will be used as an excuse for government to spread its tentacles over every aspect of our national life. He has already displayed a disturbing inclination towards suppressing criticism which will continue with the imposition of the so-called "Fairness Doctrine" on broadcasters. His tax policies and the financing required for his universal health-care program, if unaltered, will plunge us into a depression. His party of idealogue obstructionists will prohibit off-shore drilling.

I'm a big believer in freedom of religion. Basically, you either have freedom of religion or you have religious wars. That's why it's an U.S. idea that you can be Christian, Jew, Muslim, Buddhist, Hindu, agnostic, atheist or anything. There can be good and bad in all; and all, even atheist, feel and understand there are 'natural laws,' that ALL cultures have -- like not killing people, stealing, etc. -- You don't need religion to tell you that. So, being Muslim is cool. I'm getting to like their music and Arab woman trilling. And if we want to "change," other people's religions then that should only be done by example - not force. Having said all that, if you get woman out of burkas you can discover many interesting things as well as great contributions to society can be made by them. Freedom produces great boons to mankind. Great energy. Great achievements. Slavery keeps all that in chains. Plus, freedom is a lot more fun.

Modesty/Religious War in Jerusalem Mayor Election!!!
ratcatcher2
by ratcatcher2  11-10-2008
Jerusalem is one of Israel's poorest cities and one of its most divided: Arab and Jew, religious and secular, rich and poor. Its future is a core issue in any peace deal between Israel and the Palestinians. Dadon said: "I want a city of diversity for all religions, where each religion has its own area." "Are you in favour of fencing people in?" asked Mann. "The ultra-Orthodox are taking over," said Dadon. "They need to be in a different place. They run their lives completely differently."

‘Israel of the Caucasus’ and just as warlike!!!
ratcatcher2
by ratcatcher2  11-10-2008    1
The list of Israeli personnel involved in either supplying arms to Georgia or training elite Georgian military units speaks volumes for the extent of Israeli involvement in a country to which it feels close psychological attachment. Kezerashvili's ties to Israel have been well known since his father told the biggest-selling Tel Aviv daily, Yediot Ahronot, a year ago: "He has a lot of friends to this day in Israel, and he has maintained good relations with them." Recently, his pro-Israeli sympathies have been fortified by Saakashvili's typically over-the-top description of his country's role in the face of Russian aggression as the "Israel of the Caucasus"

Does Religion Make You Nice?Does atheism make you mean?
wildcat
by wildcat  11-8-2008    15
It is at this point that the "We need God to be good" case falls apart. Countries worthy of consideration aren't those like North Korea and China, where religion is savagely repressed, but those in which people freely choose atheism. In his new book, Society Without God, Phil Zuckerman looks at the Danes and the Swedes—probably the most godless people on Earth. They don't go to church or pray in the privacy of their own homes; they don't believe in God or heaven or hell. But, by any reasonable standard, they're nice to one another. They have a famously expansive welfare and health care service. They have a strong commitment to social equality. And—even without belief in a God looming over them—they murder and rape one another significantly less frequently than Americans do.

They came first for the communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn’t a communist. Then they came for the Jews, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn't a Jew. Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionists. Then they came for the Catholics, and I didn’t speak up because I was a Protestant. Then they came for me, and by that time no one was left to speak. (A poem by Martin Niemoller)

"How Grimoires Work"
cakebelly
by cakebelly  10-28-2008
continues Indeed, they seem so ridiculous that they encourage scorn concerning the whole subject. Is this ridicule valid? i don't think it is.: Perhaps we should look beyond the words and instructions, and see what is really going on in such instruction. And the first point to be raised is the 'leap of faith'. This is an absolute knowing that a belief system is true. It ignores reason, and takes the believer to a oneness with whatever system is being believed in. And often, to ignore the rationality that says it is wrong requires you to accept what to others would be gibberish. Hence, the ridiculousness of it all has rationality. : And this attitude continues into the spells themselves. For in order to carry out such irrational instructions, your beliefs have to be strengthened with every utterance or action. Hence, the very 'stupidity' of it all enhances your confidence that a result can be achieved. Spells are also related to normal life. Most people, when they get up in a mornin

Sending Iran's Regrets ~ Michael J. Totten
merrie
by merrie  10-20-2008
The United States isn't going to abandon a long-standing ally just because terrorists, Jew-hating dictatorships, and a minority of disgruntled American radicals find it distasteful. Even if the vote goes his way and Obama wins the election, Jackson will still have to keep hope alive, as will the Iranians. Withdrawing all U.S. forces from the Middle East likewise is not going to happen. Obama may want to bug out of Iraq as quickly as humanly possible, but there isn't even a small chance that he'll shut down American military bases in Turkey, Kuwait, and Qatar. Iran's preconditions are unacceptable. Whatever preconditions Obama would have, if he had any, would almost certainly be unacceptable from the point of view of the Islamic Repubic. The interests of the U.S. and Iran are diametrically opposite, and they have been since 1979. Obama may not understand this, but at least Tehran does.

The Seat of Bigotry
AtlLiberal
by AtlLiberal  10-18-2008    5
Ms. Phillips evidently doesn't engage her brain before putting her mouth in motion. Her hate filled diatribe is more suited to the middle of the last century than today's reality. Unfortunately, her sentiment is rather common. If one substitutes Jew or Muslim or Black or any other non-Christian minority for atheist it immediately becomes apparent that she is a bigoted, angry person in search of a scapegoat. Given that near 85% of Americans are Christian, her blaming the 12% for all the problems society faces is ludicrous and is indicative of profound projection on her part. Her spew sounds like it was transcribed from a speech recorded in 1930s Germany, not 21st century America. Really sad.

The Man Behind the Anti-Obama Hate Fest

He prepared to run as a Democrat for Congress in Connecticut, where paperwork for one of his campaign committees listed as one purpose “to exterminate Jew power.” He ran as a Republican for the Florida State Senate and the United States Senate in Illinois. When running for president in 1999, he aired a television advertisement in New Hampshire that accused George W. Bush of using cocaine. A motion he filed in a 1983 bankruptcy case called the judge “a crooked, slimy Jew who has a history of lying and thieving common to members of his race.”

While the United States and Israel left their ambassadorial seats empty, here is the Jew-hatred greeted by enthusiasm at today’s U.N. In its entire history, the United Nations General Assembly has never adopted a resolution dedicated to denouncing and combating the scourge of antisemitism in all its forms. Now we know why. Less than half of U.N. members are fully free democracies and among them there is no consensus that discrimination and demonization of Jews and the Jewish state is wrong. On the contrary, at the U.N. vicious antisemitism is met by a round of applause. — Anne Bayefsky is a senior fellow at the Hudson Institute and at Touro College. She is also editor of www.EyeontheUN.org..
