POPSThe night we waved goodbye to America... I thought some of the hero worship would die down a little after the election. These two are being molded, shaped, characterized much like the mythical Camelot of the JFK years....only times 10! During those years we only had the likes of Walter Cronkite to give us the news we needed to know; now, well I can see why the Democrats are avid about the "Fairness Doctrine". POPSPresidential First Dogs The last dog is of course, little Barney. I personally liked the First Cat Socks best, but I'm a cat person. I wonder what the new First Dog will be named? "Bark Obama", I heard. .:) Harry S. Truman & Feller The 33rd President once famously said, "You want a friend in Washington? Get a dog." Evidently he didn't care much for friends, as he regifted a cocker spaniel, given to him as an unsolicited Christmas present in 1947, to the White House physician. Dog lovers around the country assailed the President for surrendering Feller, who came to be known as The Unwanted Dog.

This part catches many reader's eyes: Watch, we're gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis , to test the mettle of this guy." JFK had his Cuban Missile Crisis, and the Joint Chiefs had also drawn up Operation Northwoods, a deceptive act to justify invasion of Cuba, which JFK had rejected. So Biden's reference to JFK is real interesting. ...like they did John Kennedy. Things can be done, or "generated", to force President's hands into a course of actions (by third parties), contrary to their promises, just like GWB and 9/11 which "changed everything". There is no telling just what Obama might do, but Biden seems to know something in advance, or his warning would not be so direct instead of merely hypothetical. He states this as if it is absolutely certain.s

POPSRendition suit by innocent man to be re-heard Is there justice in the USA? Canadian citizen, detained in error for two weeks at JFK, then flown by US to Jordan for interrogation, held for 10 months. Restitution paid by Canadians, but court in US held it had no jurisdiction, saying that while at JFK, Arar was not technically in the USA. Totally innocent man - all now agree - abducted by the USA, probably tortured in Jordan. Can the USA say "Oops" and not be held responsible for the abduction and torture of an innocent man? Are we different than Stalin only by degree?

POPSWhy I am a Catholic Democrat The greatest benefit to true conservatism in the US would be a strong and intellectually honest liberal movement. Folks speak of conservatives and liberals, but the decades since Reagan have been dominated by party politics, not by ideology. The battle has merely been over which party controls the spoils. The GOP is as bereft of conservative conviction as is the Dems of liberal sincerity. The best thing that could happen to this nation would be for a Goldwater or Reagan to be pitted against a JFK or FDR. Only through such a clash and resolution would the nation once again gain her focus.

POPSThe SECRET Warehouse from Indiana Jones with contents I use a similar concept in a role playing game. This was a HUGE list and hard to pare down to 1000 characters and have to skip some hilarious items like: Two strange electronic devices, found with a set of identifcation for "Commander Pavel Chekov, Starfleet." A heave metal box, 75cm on a side, painted in military green. Each side has the words, "This side towards enemy" printed on it. (Nuclear claymore mine) The "magic gun" that fired the "magic bullet" that killed JFK A large stone tablet, reconstructed from pieces, with writing on it. It is Hebrew and has Commandments 11 through 17 Microscope slide labelled "Turin Shroud section No. 325", with piece of material reading "Made In Korea" in tiny letters Snake Plisken's death certificate A searchlight with the sillouette of a bat on it and Universal Solvent (we think) (bring your own container) (hurry) (never mind...) A great and funny list
