POPSExcellence Unrecognized if a Utility
I'm an Electric Engineer for SDG&E and work in operations. Operations includes hundreds of employees--linemen, dispatchers, engineers, relay techs, and more--who maintain the electric distribution infrastructure, respond to daily outage situations, & work 24/7 should a major event occur (like the 2007 firestorm). I do my job well. I do it with pride and strive for excellence. The people that work with me are dedicated and skilled - we are a great team. We have each sacrificed evenings with family and weekend plans because we understand that operations in 24/7. When I read this story I know we (SDG&E) deserve the two awards. But, will the public hear about this? There's been NO coverage of it. Instead, there's the SD Union Tribune and their one-sided articles about SDG&E & avaricious lawyers seeking gain from acts of nature. I guess it's just part of working for a utility - the CA public has no appreciation for 24/7 reliable electricity. What's an engineer to do, but her best!

POPSObama Asserted That “Nobody Is Pro-Abortion” In 2008, Obama has positioned himself as a post-partisan, thoughtful moderate with the superior judgment required to lead the country. These are lofty promises from a man with precious little executive experience, and a Senate career that lasted exactly 143 legislative days before he launched yet another campaign for higher office. No one can deny his ambition. In fact, if Obama wins on November 4th—and serves one full term in the Oval Office—the Presidency of the United States would be the longest consecutively held full-time job he has ever held without seeking another. Barack Obama promises “change,” which is an appealing concept to an American public. They are faced with a candidate who promises them everything: Tax cuts for 95% of Americans, universal healthcare, peace, saving the planet, and—according to his wife—the “healing” of Americans’ souls. As the saying goes, if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

POPSSarah Palin and elitism Great article. The only thing I would have to point out is where the author states: "The point is that she comes to us, seeking the second most important job in the world, without any intellectual training relevant to the challenges and responsibilities that await her." I mean - hell Bush had no intellectual training either (not to mention no intellect) and things have gone so well over the last 8 years, right?

POPSOnce Elected, Palin Hired Friends and Lashed Foes
Real Estate Agent as top of the State Division of Agriculture? Sounds a heckuva lot like "Your doin a fine job brownie". Of course that was when another rebubbacan, George Bush, appointed Michael Brown head of FEMA, our governments emergency response division to natural disasters and other emergencies. What was Michael Brown's qualifications? Before joining the DHS/FEMA, Brown was the Judges and Stewards Commissioner for the International Arabian Horse Association, (IAHA), from 1989-2001. After numerous lawsuits were filed against the organization over disciplinary actions , Brown was forced to resign Interviews show that Ms. Palin runs an administration that puts a premium on loyalty and secrecy. The governor and her top officials sometimes use personal e-mail accounts for state business; dozens of e-mail messages obtained by The New York Times show that her staff members studied whether that could allow them to circumvent subpoenas seeking public records. POPSTodd Palin Digs into Job Creation for Alaskans Todd Palin — oil worker, champion snowmobiler, hunter and commercial fisherman — also has been boning up on mining lately in his role as Alaska's first spouse. The companies that paid for the flights, a normal means of travel to remote and often roadless parts of Alaska, are both in the early stages of a lengthy approval process. A month after the first visit, Todd Palin toured the Red Dog Mine, a lead and zinc operation in the northwestern part of the state. That company is currently seeking permission to mine a new deposit, which would extend the life of the mine to 2031.

POPSFeds Urge Leniency For Homeowners Only under the temporary 'hothouse' conditions in mortgage markets did they seem to qualify. Second, people who have no equity in their homes cannot meaningfully be said to be owners. When times turn tough, they will walk away. They were effectively renters, not homeowners. "The crisis will end when housing markets hit bottom and the prices of mortgage securities stabilize. Banks also need to unwind their positions in exotic financial derivatives. The Fed needs to understand it is facing a capital crisis, not a liquidity crisis. The very low interest rates on safe assets show there is ample liquidity in financial markets. The Fed should not supply capital. That is the job of markets, and they are doing it."
