POPSMaricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's War On The Leftist Media The Republic used to be a middle of the road newspaper until Keven Willey became editorial page editor in 1998. Under her lead, the paper took a hard turn to the left. Willey left in 2002 to become editorial page editor of the Dallas Morning News. That newspaper has had a steep decline in circulation throughout Willey's tenure, most recently decreasing 11.7% since 2007. At the same time the Republic began declining, a right-leaning blog called espressopundit.com emerged and devoted considerable coverage to the Republic's demise. Blog owner Greg Patterson had access to inside information, revealing in advance layoffs and other shakeups at the paper, accompanied by photographs of a sinking ship.

POPSMcCain Pokes Fun At Himself As Well As "That One" "This campaign needed the common touch of the working man. After all, it began so long ago with the heralded arrival of the man known to Oprah Winfrey as 'The One.' Being a friend and colleague of Barack I just called him 'That One,'" McCain said in reference to his bully-like tactics in the second presidential debate. "He doesn't mind at all. In fact, he even has a pet name for me: 'George Bush.'" In attendance Thursday night were such dignitaries as Sen. Hillary Clinton, Gov. David Paterson, Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger and former Mayor Ed Koch. nd had some fun with MSNBC's Chris Matthews, host of "Hardball." "I told him, maverick I can do, but messiah is above my pay grade," McCain said. . . . . "So, you know I have fun with the media. We all know that the press is really an independent, civic-minded and non-partisan group … like ACORN. video @ wcbstv.com

POPSWas Barack's Surprise Visit a Sign He Knows It's Going Badly? But when you've got the messiah's image to protect, then you've got to scrap the purpose of the convention if it's going to make him look bad. That's not a good sign. Exit question: since the entire purpose of the convention, the roll call of the states, was thrown out the window, how does this even remain a convention? How is it different from one huge campaign ad?

POPSArizona Illegal Alien Laws Produce Far-Ranging Rewards Although Arizona’s Democrat Governor Janet Napolitano has vetoed most illegal immigration bills since 2002 when she entered office, Arizonans have bypassed her by sending initiatives directly to the ballot. In 2004, voters passed four illegal immigration measures with over 70% yes margins. A law targeting drophouses was signed into law earlier this month. An even stricter employer sanctions measure is currently underway to be on the ballot this fall. Sheriff Joe Arpaio and Maricopa County Attorney Andrew Thomas are leading the local law enforcement efforts in Arizona against illegal immigration. Arizona is also home to State Representative Russell Pearce, who is responsible for spearheading possibly more laws against illegal immigration than any other state representative in the country. It is also home to Chris Simcox, President of the Minutemen Civil Defense Corps.

POPSDNC Chairman Joe Andrew Is Urging Clinton Supporters To Switch May 1, 20 Dear Friends: I have been inspired. Today I am announcing my support for Senator Barack Obama for President of the United States of America. I am changing my support from Senator Clinton to Senator Obama, and calling for my fellow Democrats across my home State of Indiana, and my fellow super delegates across the nation, to heal the rift in our Party and unite behind Barack Obama. The hardest decisions in life are not between good and bad or right and wrong, but between two goods or two rights. That is the decision Democrats face today. We have an embarrassment of riches, but as much as we may love our candidates and revel in the political process that has brought Presidential politics to places that have not seen it in a generation, we cannot let our family affair hurt America by helping John McCain.

POPS"Kidnapped By Filipinos" by Keith John Adams This story cracked me up. It sounds bad but when you read it and if you know some Filipino family, you will get it. But I also like the fact that you can get a personalized song out of this guy. Thanks to "You Ain't No Picasso" for posting it.

POPSYanks Made a Big Mistake: No Donnie Baseball Oh, man. Where's the old General when we need him? The younger Steinbrenners somehow got the wrong side of George's DNA. How could the Yanks miss so badly. This decision could haunt them for years. Yes, Girardi is a smart baseball man and a great teacher/motivator of young talent. But, he is not favored by his contemporaries and this hiring also tells me that there is possibly worse news to come: Rivera, Posada, and possibly Petitte will follow Arod out the door. See you in 4 years when the youngsters mature...

POPSDuck Stew Even though CAIR failed so miserably in their suit against Andrew Whitehead the Anti-CAIR guy because of what would have come about about CAIR's support of HAMAS during discovery, they DO succeed in intimidating FOX and others thereby advancing their agenda. So they'll continue threatening these lawsuits...
