POPSPastor Rick Warren's Saddleback Civil Forum
McCain added the two appointments Alito and Roberts are his recent favorites. When asked does evil exist and if so how would handle it? Ignore it, negotiate with it, confront it or defeat it Obama: verbose, wordy ..... he would confront it but also equivocated on what evil is. "We have to have some humility on the issue on the of confronting". Evil has been been committed in the pursuit of good. *sigh* McCain: "DEFEAT IT" huge applause. McCain went on to describe Radical Islam as the greatest threat of the 21at century. He said he would pursue bin Laden “to the gates of Hell,” Gotta love that. Obama's most important advisers: Michelle (the "proud" wife, the grandmother "a typical white person", and then a bumch of politicians - Ted Kennedy, Nunn, Biden et al McCain's most important advisers: Gen. David Petreaus, head of US troops in Iraq; US Rep. and veteran civil rights leader John Lewis, D-Ga.; and former eBay CEO Meg Whitman, a top adviser to his campaign.

POPSUS and Iran "Diplomacy" Starts--"Good Cop" Tactic But coercing Iran to stop its nuclear enrichment program is the goal. So earlier we saw "bad cop" war games and rhetoric by US and Israel, and now this multinational "diplomacy" will play "good cop", to force the will of the US and Israel on Iran. That is not diplomacy, and the shift is temporary, for the election season. The result (which might be a goal too) will be that the oil traders will sell and lower oil prices will come (as they already did on first news of this), and this game will probably be played between now and Nov. 5th (to help McCain), and then the war-mongering will start again, and possibly an attack by Israel ( per neocon John Bolton's clipmark earlier ) to force the next President's hand into the conflict. Bush does not change from his neocon advisers blueprint. This pragmatism is for political expediency and economic benefit for election season purposes.

POPSInsane ex-Ambassador to UN Bolton predicts Bombs “An Obama victory would rule out military action by the Israelis because they would fear the consequences given the approach Obama has taken to foreign policy,” said Mr Bolton, who was Mr Bush’s ambassador to the UN from 2005 to 2006. “With McCain they might still be looking at a delay. Given that time is on Iran’s side, I think the argument for military action is sooner rather than later absent some other development.” The Iran policy of Mr McCain, whom Mr Bolton supports, was “much more realistic than the Bush administration’s stance”.

POPSThe Israeli "Dry Run"On Iran's Nuclear Facilities
Looks like there would be a side benefit from an attack on Iran's nuclear facilities: the blind, toothless UN atomic "watchdog" -- Mohamed El Baradei -- promised to resign if Iran is targeted. US officials reported on Friday that more than 100 Israeli F-16s and F-15s staged a complex operation over the Mediterranean during the first week of June. The aircraft traversed more than 900 miles, about the distance from Israel to Iran's Natanz nuclear enrichment facility; the exercise also tested the refueling of planes and helicopters tasked with rescuing downed pilots. El Baradei wasn't pleased. He warned that any attack on Iran would turn the entire Middle East "into a fireball." Russia's response: as Iran's preeminent nuclear technology supplier, Russia is concerned with its cash flow. It also warned Israel not to attack. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov instructed Israel not to use force, claiming there is no proof Iran is trying to acquire atomic weapons.

POPSBolton: Israel Will Attack Iran before Inauguration after election, before inauguration. This neocon with close ties to Israel speaks openly...for Israel. This would force the next President's hand is their strategy, to control US foreign and war policy. subtitle: US ambassador speaks for Israel.

POPSFox anchor: Iranian missile could hit US [not!] Alas, fair and balanced, Iran is 6,340 miles away, and the range of Iran's Shahab missile is 1200 miles. Nevermind. How will we be afraid enough if we're careful about the facts? How will we envision impending doom, or cheer for necessary war? I can "only hope the smoking gun is not a mushroom cloud."

POPSJohn Bolton on Iran Bolten is echoing my sentiments. I agree that an attack on Iran is insane. I have found it very disheartening that the Bush administration has blown a prime opportunity to force Iran's hand. Three years ago Iran was primed for economic collapse and the Iranian people were on our side. It seems to me an opportunity has been wasted.

POPSMr. Magoo Worse than Bush? I think we're past "victory" and " honor" now. all that's left is tragedy and suffering--for the returning troops and the dead and innocent families who "we" destroyed. 40'000+ US soldiers and Marines diagnosed with PTSD and many more sucides. For what--Bush's Ego and oil. AAAARRRRGH!

POPSExpenses At U.N. Balloon 25 Percent U.S. Demands on Body Help Drive Up Budget The additional funds in the latest request would be used to renovate the landmark U.N. headquarters in New York, fund war-crimes investigators in Lebanon and pay $100 million to build a reinforced, attack-resistant U.N. headquarters building in Baghdad. But they would also be used to pay nearly $7 million for a 2009 anti-racism conference in Durban, South Africa, which Washington believes would serve as a forum to bash Israel. Zalmay Khalilzad, the U.S. ambassador to the United Nations, insists that the organization will have to find savings or live without its new programs. On the eve of the U.S.-led invasion of Iraq, Bush spoke before the U.N. General Assembly and challenged the institution to enforce the resolution requiring Saddam Hussein to disarm, suggesting that the institution's reason for being was at stake: "Will the United Nations serve the purpose of its founding, or will it be irrelevant?"

POPSBolton: Boisterous Bully Of Bloviation "There is an excellent review of John Bolton's new book, "Surrender is Not an Option: Defending America at the United Nations and Abroad" by Brian Urquhart (a former UN under-secretary general) in the March 6, 2008 issue of The New York Review of Books ("One Angry Man"). "Urquhart reminds us that as an undersecretary of state, before his stint at the UN, "he did much to undermine America's leadership and position in the world." Actually, not a bad thing as undermining and weakening the power of the number one imperialist power strengthens the world progressive movement. Perhaps Bolton is a secret anti-imperialist? What Urquhart has reference to, however, is Bolton's role in undermining the 1972 Anti-Ballistic Missile Treaty, the Comprehensive Test Ban Treaty, and the International Criminal Court. Of course he could have only done this with the consent of his masters Bush, Cheney and the ineffective Colin Powell." ...Countercurrents

POPSFun but NOT Democracy, as we know it.
Shame, shame, shame. Joke politics. What is America coming to. School children games by the US Senate. Previously this produced the flipflop bully Bolton as the a United States ambassador to the most prodigious position for any diplomate, the United Nations ambassador. There he lived up to his reputation as a bully and spokesperson for the Zionist state. "John Bolton re-joined the Jewish Institute for National Security Affairs. Bolton, the former U.S.ambassador to the United Nations, returned as a member of JINSA's board of advisers. "We are thrilled to have John Bolton back with us," Tom Neumann, JINSA's executive director, said in a statement. "We appreciate him personally and we appreciate the strength and soundness of his ideas. John represents the very best of national security thinking in the country." JINSA joined in efforts to nominate Bolton for a Nobel Peace Prize last year, for his work uncovering Iran's suspected nuclear weapons program." Bolton for the Nobe

POPSAre These Neocons crazy or what? This story removes all doubt It is absolutely amazing how myopic these neocons actually are. I sat at my TV watching as Bolton, the president, Dana Perrino, etc, etc, etc, kept spinning the meaning of the NIE with all kinds of reasons as to why it is wrong. Some of them have the temerity to declare that the Intelligence agencies are twisting their findings in order to make Bush look bad. I have come to the conclusion that the neocons and far right Republicans have finally lost it completely. I sincerely believe that the public is fed up with the lies, and manipulations as well as the overt fear-mongering. Bush and his henchmen are bald face liars, and they should be thrown out of office and tried as the war criminals they are.

POPSOh, the Glory of it All: Nuclear War and North Korea Coming on the heels of Bush's retro-active opposition to the ascension of Raoul Castro, we see another naive and anachronistic policy push from the extreem right wing: trying to intimidate North Korea. For all those who don't get cable news in their fall-out shelters, North Korea is already a nuclear power. Why are we so eager to provoke what would inevitably become a nuclear war? Because it won't hurt us. There's no way that N.K. could reliably hit the US, their first targets would probably be Seoul and Tokyo. So for Republicans like Bolton and his ilk, the nuclear destruction of Seoul (Population 30,000,000) would be "sad" but convenient, because it would provide us with the pretext to use our nukes and annihilate North Korea, which deep down they secretly think would be kind of fun. So, tell me again: Who is it that is Evil?

POPS Is John Bolton Right About North Korea? Bolton addressed a joint meeting of Foreign Affairs Committee Republicans and Republican Policy Committee members last week. And he also spoke to the Conservative Opportunity Society, The Hill reports.

POPSBush Summer Hires Targeted Odd that this *journalist* calls the recess appointments "devilish". I believe Reid and his fellow Democrats stonewalled the President's choices for months on end; not giving an up or down vote. However, if the Administration wanted to *play* with the opposition, they could schedule things in such a way as to keep Congress in session all summer! :~) "new sheriff" indeed.
