abeer58
by abeer58  11-21-2008
London The nearly eight-year marriage of Madonna and Guy Ritchie was ended in minutes yesterday in a London court. What began with a wedding at Skibo Castle in the Highlands came to an abrupt end in a “quickie divorce” at the Principal Registry of the Family Division in High Holburn, London. The case - Ciccone M. L. v Ritchie G. S. – was listed with 16 others before District Judge Caroline Reid “for pronouncement of decree or order under the special procedure rule”. The couple did not attend. In a sworn statement, Madonna petitioned for divorce on the ground of Ritchie’s unreasonable behaviour, which she said was “continuing”.

and was poised for the worst annual decline in its 80-year history after economic reports depicted a deepening recession and lawmakers postponed a vote on a plan to salvage the auto industry. Citigroup, which has about $2 trillion of assets, has fallen for nine of the last 10 days on concern more companies and consumers will default as the economy worsens. The benchmark for U.S. equities trimmed its yearly loss to 46 percent today, still the worst year since 1931. The S&P 500 tumbled 8.4 percent this week. The Dow average declined 5.3 percent, while the Nasdaq Composite Index lost 8.8 percent.

Top Trend-Caster: Prepare for Economic Winter Now!
blueridge
by blueridge  11-17-2008    1
Get ready: He predicts bank runs by Feb. 2009. He is serious and he has been right on the mark in most predictions. His firm is Trends Research (here) and he is exposing the Goverment Lies and Big Banksters corruption. He has been interviewed as an acknowledged expert (which history proves) by such diverse media as CNN, Alex Jones (radio interview tonight), Fox News (where he said there would be a revolution against big government), and MSNBC, and Coast to Coast radio. His firm analyzes as "political atheists", they do not care about either political party, and consider them both corrupt. We forecast a high probability for the government to call a bank "holiday," at which time withdrawals will be drastically limited . Thus, while deposits will be FDIC insured, restrictions will be imposed on withdrawals. Is that why Obama is keeping Bush's new Executive Order for Martial Law upon any "nat'l emergency"?

Orwell's Children
willhelm
by willhelm  11-16-2008    1
Too many of us... have become just like the denizens of Jonestown: Orwell's children -- enraged into constant militancy against eternal enemies, oblivious to the notion of a Blessed Creator, melded into the consciousness of the party hive, divorced from history, hypnotized by images, inoculated against reason, stripped of family, and existing only to serve the cause. There were specific elements necessary for nations with a heritage of freedom to slide intoabject slavery..... What are the characteristics of the Orwellian state? 1. Start with God. He must go. 2. Truth must go too. 3. Language must be brought to heel. Marxism foisted upon us words like "capitalism," which means nothing at all but which has so infected our minds that we reflexively use this silly nonsense word instead of freedom. Politically correct language is rampant. Image and symbols replace words.

Saying 'no' to a new heart
Kelika
by Kelika  11-13-2008
More: "It is excruciating to imagine the pain not only of this child but of her parents, trying to do the right thing. They are told one night that an ambulance would come and take her away because they were not doing their job to protect her. And yet you understand why doctors will err on the side of treatment. And why the doctor who called in the authorities was concerned about the ability of anyone, but especially a 13-year-old, to walk away from something that represented hope, however feeble. But you have to be grateful that the ultimate judges kept an open mind, let Hannah make her case and found it reasonable for her circumstances. This is ultimately what respect for life looks like; it means respecting an individual's right to decide how she wants to live, even if that involves knowing she will die. Mercy, detached from Justice, grows unmerciful, C.S. Lewis said. But surely justice detached from mercy grows unjust."

A Quiet Windfall for US Banks

Can a 13-year-old refuse treatment?
balthazarus
by balthazarus  11-12-2008    2
"How old is old enough to decide whether to live or die? Priscilla Alderson, professor of childhood studies at the Institute of Education, says her research had found that even very young children could give or withhold informed consent to medical treatment. Decisions about treatment, or even about whether to live or die, cannot be based on age, she argues. "Our research has found that age isn't a helpful criterion - but experience is," she says. She has found that even at four years old, a child who has diabetes can understand the principle of insulin treatment - and it is vital they do understand or they risk interpreting the pain they as some kind of parental punishment."

Obama faces a Cold War threat and a warning from Israel Gordon Brown became one of the first world leaders to congratulate Obama in a ten-minute telephone call last night. Aides said they discussed Obama's plans for a phased withdrawal from Iraq and his commitment to boost forces in Afghanistan. Speaking from the South Lawn of the White House, President Bush said he would be meeting Mr Obama next week and is making 'unprecedented efforts' to make a smooth transition during his final 74 days in office. As if the instant foreign policy tests were not enough, Mr Obama was also facing more economic problems with the Dow Jones Index dropping for a second successive day. Wall Street greeted his election win by plunging nearly 500 points on Wednesday and it was down again by 274 points in afternoon trading.
