POPSI can relate, but you don't want me as president When the call comes at 3AM I want a mind who was at the top of their class, who has gravitas and a real intellect I want a leader who is a scholar who can hold the history of civilization in his head and will read and learn from the past as he charts the future.

POPSPoll: Half Say Palin Unqualifiedby
Wisco Yesterday 12:07 AM

Also of interest: The poll found that Obama benefited more from his selection of Biden than McCain did by picking Palin. While 25 percent said they were more likely to vote for McCain because he picked Palin, 19 percent said they were less likely to support his candidacy. A majority, 55 percent, said the choice won't affect their vote. By contrast, 22 percent of voters said Biden's selection for the Democratic ticket made them more likely to vote for Obama, while just 10 percent said they were less likely to support the Illinois senator's presidential candidacy. Again, a majority -- 67 percent -- said the choice won't matter in their vote. More evidence that Palin was a base shoring choice. She's not winning converts, just energizing those already on the right.

POPSWhy McCain Picked Palin: Not Too Conservative She was neither a Romney nor a Lieberman, and shored up his broken maverick image. "Conservative...but not an ideologue", per McCain's inner circle. Ms. Palin, and not Mr. Pawlenty or Mr. Romney, would reinforce Mr. McCain’s self-image, an adviser said. She had a reputation as a reformer in Alaska, she hunted and fished, and she had once belonged to a union. Just as crucial, Ms. Palin, 44, was beloved by the party’s religious base but did not come off as shrill. “She’s conservative,” Mr. Black said, “but she’s not an ideologue.”

POPSDestruction of Kenya Forest is National Emergency The problem of Kenya typifies a global problem of destroying the eco systems of the world and its far reaching effects. The Sons of David Foundation in Panama with its paulownia reforestation project is trying to reduce that problem there. POPSA Democrat supports McCain; Mocks Obama This is bewildering. Although I disagree with the Democrats failing to impeach Bush/Cheeny at least I could understand they had some (Machiavellian) reason. But this? They let this guy be the lead Democratic Chairman on the Homeland (Security) and Government Affairs Committee? They let him sit on other committees? They let him caucus and vote on Democratic Party issues? He keeps other privileges of seniority? And he supports the other party's candidate for president and mocks Obama!? I can only conclude they are wimps or more whipped by the Israeli lobby than I thought possible. Or both. Really...would this be tolerated in any other political party in the world? & if not the reasons above, Why?

POPSMinneapolis-St. Paul: The “Delegation” From Georgia Georgia --- the country, which has made headlines in recent weeks after it was invaded by neighboring Russia. “Sen. Obama has expressed clear support,” he said. “And Sen. McCain has clearly expressed his support. We are very grateful to both campaigns that they understand the situation.”

POPSHillary Fans and "PUMAs for Palin" Some Clinton Donors Are Contributing to McCain ABC News Some of Hillary Clinton's most fervent supporters are taking their enthusiasm – and their campaign contributions – to John McCain. More than 85 of Clinton's fundraisers, including Donald Trump, Univision chief executive Joseph Uva, cable mogul Charles Dolan, philanthropist Norma Hess and one of Florida's biggest lobbyists appear to be skipping Barack Obama when it comes to writing checks for the general election, according to an ABCNews.com review of campaign finance records. These Clinton donors have contributed at least $200,000 to McCain's campaign in the last few months, an amount which doesn't include larger contributions to the Republican joint fundraising committees. The defecting donors, along with a significant segment (20 percent) of Clinton fans who have expressed support for McCain in recent polls, could present a problem for Obama in the general election.

POPSShould Biden Share Blame for Foreclosure Crisis? Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act (BAPCPA) “is directly responsible for the rising foreclosure rate since the end of 2005,” concluded a 2007 study by Credit Suisse. The law “increased foreclosures and the number of homes for sale,” echoed a July 2008 study by U.S. Treasury researcher David Bernstein. That study estimated the law had pushed foreclosures or forced sales on 200,000 homeowners since it went into effect, but noted that was a rough, “back-of-the-envelope” calculation… The bill was backed by banks and credit card companies including MBNA, which is headquartered in Delaware, Biden’s home state. MBNA executives had been Biden’s single largest source of campaign donations, and MBNA has employed Biden’s son Hunter as a company executive, lobbyist and consultant. The Obama campaign has said Hunter Biden did no work for MBNA on the bankruptcy bill. http://abcnews.go.com/Blotter/story?id=5670703&page=1

POPSBack to The Future * In 1979, he shared Carter's starry-eyed belief that the fall of the shah in Iran and the advent of the ayatollahs represented progress for human rights. Throughout the hostage crisis, as US diplomats were daily paraded blindfolded in front of television cameras and threatened with execution, he opposed strong action against the terrorist mullahs and preached dialogue. * Biden opposed President Ronald Reagan's proactive policy against the Soviet Union. Biden was all for détente - which, in practice, meant Western subsidies that would have enabled the moribund USSR to cling to life and continue doing mischief. Had Biden had his way, "the Evil Empire" would still be around and Saddam Hussein still in power. The US would still be begging the mullahs of Tehran for forgiveness of unspecified "past sins" - and more American hostages would be seized in the Middle East while the mullahs celebrate their first atomic bombs.

POPSIt's Joe! Barack Obama chose Sen. Joe Biden from Delaware as his running mate from Delaware. I'm from Delaware and I couldn't be more proud. Biden is an excellent choice and one that arguably suggests that Obama looked to the quality of the candidate instead of any electoral college advantage by choosing someone from the 2nd smallest state in the nation. Besides his long and distinguished expertise in foreign affairs, Biden adds rhetorical abilities to the ticket that are only matched by Obama himself. By choosing Biden, Obama has shown extreme confidence in himself. Not even someone with the rhetorical and political skills of Joe Biden can upstage Obama. Moreover, this ticket is probably one the smartest in US history, a welcome relief to the reign of idiocracy of 8 years of the George Bush administration.

POPSRed Primer for Children and Diplomats Part III by Victor Vashi
Vladimir Lenin, the first leader of the Soviet Union, sought to reclaim all of the areas formerly controlled by the Czars, especially the fertile Ukraine. As a result, four years of chaos and conflict followed in which Ukrainian national troops fought against Lenin's Red Army, and also against Russia's White Army (troops still loyal to the Czar) as well as other invading forces including the Germans and Poles. By 1921, the battles ended with a Soviet victory while the western part of the Ukraine was divided-up among Poland, Romania, and Czechoslovakia. But when Lenin died in 1924, he was succeeded by Joseph Stalin, one of the most ruthless humans ever to hold power. To Stalin, the burgeoning national revival movement and continuing loss of Soviet influence in the Ukraine was completely unacceptable. Beginning in 1929, over 5,000 Ukrainian scholars, scientists, cultural and religious leaders were arrested.... http://www.historyplace.com/worldhistory/genocide/stalin.htm
