POPSMcCain's Better Half, Number Two
Cindy McCain, played a role in the Keating Five S&L scandal, and just as her husband was rehabilitating his reputation, she was caught stealing drugs from her nonprofit organization to feed her addiction to painkillers. She has a fortune that sets the McCain's apart from most other Americans, a problem in a presidential race that hinges on economic anxieties. She can be imprecise: she has repeatedly called herself an only child, for instance, even though she has two half-siblings. Those close to her say she aspires to be like another blonde, glamorous figure married to an older man: "Diana, the Princess of Wales" . Carol McCain, (1st Mrs) worked in the Reagan White House as an event planner. She had stood by her husband during his captivity in N. Vietnam, never passing word of her debilitating car accident, (more about her... http://www.snopes.com/politics/mccain/carol.asp ) a few years after their reunion, McCain told her, he was leaving her for a younger, richer woman.

POPSAyers And Keating That, too, makes this a legitimate question about a man who would be president. Mega-dittoes. But I guess by playing the Keating card Obama is showing his followers that he is tough and ready to fight back. One might argue that he is also legitimizing McCain's attacks (and I guess I will.)

POPSMake-believe Maverick An excerpt from an article on the Real John McCain; not the fairy tale that he's been selling in Washington for decades. Whether you plan to vote for him or not, it's worth it to read this article. Find out about the unstable, antisocial, laissez-faire lout that half of Americans want in charge of their military and nuclear arsenal. If his history (even after Viet Nam) is any example, he should be nuking Iran and Russia by about July 2009

POPSAbortion Issue Dividing Catholic Votes The McCain campaign also disclosed last month that the senator was meeting privately with Cardinal Justin Rigali of Philadelphia. Former Gov. Frank Keating of Oklahoma, a director of Catholic outreach for the McCain campaign, said the meetings Mr. McCain has held with bishops around the country were “strictly ceremonial.” But the campaign welcomed the bishops’ comments about the Democrats and abortion, Mr. Keating said, as “statements of affectionate support” for Mr. McCain. Many parishes distributed a voter guide, produced by an outside conservative Catholic group called Catholic Answers, which identified five “nonnegotiable” issues for faithful voters: abortion, embryonic stem-cell research, human cloning, euthanasia and same-sex marriage." HA! In November 2004, I knowingly and willingly committed the "grievous sin" of voting for John Kerry. And Lord help me, I'd do it again tomorrow.

POPSThe Keating Five "Keating asked the five Senators to tell the feds to bug off, and the five Senators, later known as the Keating Five, obliged, meeting with federal investigators twice and pressuring them to stop investigating Keating’s crimes." "Keating blew $3.4 billion through illegal personal loans and bad investments, and the FDIC eventually had to reimburse Keating’s customers who had been ripped off. (The FDIC is a part of the federal government funded by taxpayers dollars, so when Keating stole from his customers you and I were the ones who paid for it.)" "Ever since the scandal, when McCain lies today, it’s never questioned, because he’s a “straight talker”. The man has more skeletons in his closet than any politician in history. The Keating Five is just one bone."

POPS List Of Plausible Picks For McCain's Vice President
Five meet all the important criteria to be John McCain's running mate this fall. They are: Mitt Romney, Tim Pawlenty, John Kasich, Rob Portman, and Chris Cox. They edge out other superb candidates such as Mike Pence, Mark Sanford, and Paul Ryan. (former Oklahoma Gov. Frank Keating.) To review, the best candidate 1) will be obviously ready to become president at a moment's notice; 2) will be a Reaganite conservative; 3) should at least put into play a state, region, or constituency that otherwise would be far less attainable for McCain or for a typical Republican; 4) should be well rounded, preferably with at least interesting non-political item on his resume; 5) should have some executive or serious organizational experience; 6) should be intelligent, widely respected, good on TV, and preferably "cool" in persona to balance McCain's sometimes fearsome intensity; and 7) should clearly be a reformer with a record of occasionally bucking the establishment on behalf of principle.

POPSMcCain's Fortunes and Family Tied to Mob Jerome Corsi reveals some important and relevant background of the Arizona Senator who pretends to be a champion of "ethics" and accountability of government, while his own past has many skeletons, some flesh still on them. A general defense could be suggested by many that this was merely the rebellion (justifiable in the eyes of many) from days of Prohibition of alcohol, which laws were later repealed (justifiably so). However, this defense will not wash in regard to the Arizona Savings and Loan Scandal, which overthrew almost every bank in the Southwest and reorganized them under national chains (e.g. Bank of America), and his identity as one of the "Keating Five". His marriage to his present mob-boss-daughter wife cements some suspicious ties. Bottom line is that McCain is neither a "war hero" (see previous clip article), nor a champion of "ethics" in Washington.

POPSMcCain's Ethics: From Keating Five to Iseman McCain has a pattern of unethical operations on behalf of favored lobbyists while feigning to be a policeman for good government against corruption. This is why he is entirely untrustworthy and why his public image as a reputable maverick is without merit.

POPSMcCain and Lobbyist Vicki Iseman; Affair, Ethics Breach, or Both? She appears to have leveraged his support for her clients in a way that special favors were evident, even out of bounds for a Senator from which her clients directly benefited. Most have forgotten about the Keating Five scandal of which McCain was a part, a gross ethical violation that should have banished McCain earlier from any Presidential consideration.

POPSMcCain as President Would be a Megalomaniac This article appeared in The American Conservative Magazine which just endorsed Ron Paul. The "maverick" McCain appears to have changed his positions in light of personal ambitions, which also smacks of Willard Milton Romney. This formerly tortured POW (something that psychologists testify of full well leads to a corresponding pathological abuse of others in return) could become a global meglomaniac that would make Bush look like a pacifist, hard as it is to imagine. The neocons, from the left originally, will love him.

POPS PATTERICO ENDORSES MITT If the swing towards Romney in California continues , he will emerge from Tuesday's contest in a solid second place with a new narrative and a renewed debate about the race --can Romney surpass McCain in Ohio and Texas in March? The rapidly fading Huck would simply disappear, as he is doing in many places where the obvious has already registered: A vote for Huckabee is a vote for McCain. A vote for McCain is a vote AGAINST the traditional family and traditional family values.

POPS Heroism.....Character.....Patriotism...........0 for 3
Then, ten years after his ugly divorce, McCain was fingered as one of the Keating Five—a group of five Senators investigated on ethics charges. McCain was never indicted, an investigation revealed that his Congressional and Senate campaigns had been financed in part by donations from Keating. The federal bail out of Lincoln cost taxpayers $2.6 billion. Patriotism “Why not say to those undocumented workers who are working the jobs that the rest of us refuse, 'come out from the shadows.'” Amazing—three lies in one sentence: “undocumented workers,” “jobs that the rest of us refuse,” and “come out of the shadows.” And another McCain lie: “In poll after poll after poll, Americans support earned citizenship and a comprehensive solution” Immigration Foreshadows 2008 GOP Contest, by Liz Sidoti, Associated Press, May 25, 2006 http://www.vdare.com/guzzardi/060526_mccain.htm Joe Guzzardi Major Mark Smith US Army (retired) Zippos Corner - Why I can not support John M

POPSThis Is Quite A Record For A "Straight Talker" Super Tuesday may be the voters’ last chance to bring the so-called “straight talk express” to a screeching halt. It should be called the “sell-out express” because McCain has sold out not only with amnesty for illegal aliens but also sold out the First Amendment with the McCain-Feingold “campaign finance reform” bill that was supposed to take big money out of political campaigns, but blatantly has not. McCain also sold out on judicial nominations by making his own side deal with the Democrats, undercutting Republican attempts to stop Democrats from filibustering judicial nominees instead of voting them up or down. Let’s talk sense. Benedict Arnold was a war hero but that did not exempt him from condemnation for his later betrayal. Being a war hero is not a lifetime get-out-of-jail-free card. And becoming president of the United States is not a matter of rewarding an individual for past services.
