Which Linux distribution should I use?
jongkokakilima
by jongkokakilima  Today 3:53 AM
Which Linux distribution should I use? Which Linux Distribution should I select for my old computer(s)? Quick answer: Debian, Slackware, or perhaps BasicLinux (current version), or an older version of RedHat, Mandrake, or SuSE. Justification: RedHat, Mandrake, SuSE, Caldera, and TurboLinux are optimized/suitable for hardware current at the date of their release. They may be difficult or impossible to install on older machines mostly due to the memory contraints and speed. Debian and Slackware are suitable for most older hardware See more information at http://www.security.papario.com

Ode to Autumn (John Keats)
cakebelly
by cakebelly  10-29-2008
Where are the songs of Spring? Ay, where are they? Think not of them, thou hast thy music too,— While barrèd clouds bloom the soft-dying day 25 And touch the stubble-plains with rosy hue; Then in a wailful choir the small gnats mourn Among the river-sallows, borne aloft Or sinking as the light wind lives or dies; And full-grown lambs loud bleat from hilly bourn; 30 Hedge-crickets sing; and now with treble soft The redbreast whistles from a garden-croft; And gathering swallows twitter in the skies. Guess I'm missing . . well, seasons!

Fedora Linux Would Have Cost $10.8 Billion?
David M Ewalt
by David M Ewalt  10-23-2008
These numbers come from the Linux Foundation, so they're likely rather inflated. But there's still truth to the fact that massive amounts of development time have gone into these open source projects, and they've achieved things that major software vendors would have a hard time replicating.

The move will be popular with most people and the money people can't argue when it is their greed that caused this problem. When you foul up in "extreme sports", you usually suffer.

"What is the “real” trigger for this patient’s depression? Perhaps it is a combination of psychological and neurological factors. In short, the notion of “reacting” to adverse life events is complex and problematic."
