POPSWhat Americans owe to those who serve "Each November we are asked to pause and honor them, which is, or should be, an honor in itself. After the events of the last week at Fort Hood in Texas, with their reminder of the sacrifices that the men and women of the military make for us, Veterans Day will hold special meaning this year."

POPSBarbara Ehrenreich: The Swine Flu Vaccine Screw-up More: According to Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, the government was misled by these companies, which failed to report manufacturing delays as they arose. Her department, she says, was "relying on the manufacturers to give us their numbers, and as soon as we got numbers we put them out to the public. It does appear now that those numbers were overly rosy." If, in fact, there's a political parable here, it's about Big Government's sweetly trusting reliance on Big Business to safeguard the public health: Let the private insurance companies manage health financing; let profit-making hospital chains deliver health care; let Big Pharma provide safe and affordable medications. As it happens, though, all these entities have a priority that regularly overrides the public's health, and that is, of course, profit…

POPSThe Root of Much of What Ails Our Health-Care System ~ “Third-Party-Payer Problem”
to create impenetrable bureaucratic barriers between you and their money. There’s a reason why claims forms are so complicated.... There is much to lament about that system, and real reform is needed. A meaningful body of reforms would do three things: 1) establish a real market for health-care services and health insurance, one that is fiercely competitive and driven by consumers who are not beholden to their employers, the government, or any concern other than their own needs; 2) take intelligent steps to reduce the expense of health care and health insurance, and the bureaucracy attached to them; 3) offer intelligently designed support for the poor, the sick, and other vulnerable participants in the market. Here are ten things that would go a long way toward getting that done: 1) Insurance Choice. 2) Real Competition: A National Market for Health Insurance. 3) Price Transparency. 4) High Ceilings for HSAs (and No Taxes). 5) Insurance on Your Insuran

POPSDispelling myths about meatless meals The right-wing blowhards getting their knickers in a twist over this is so amusing. Because it's indoctrination to teach kids that anything but meat for lunch is a good thing. How dare they! Like kids experiencing foregoing meat one meal a week is some sort of communist plot to weaken our children and make them susceptible to socialized medicine and nuclear disarmament or something.

POPSObama Girls Spared Maoist Vaccination Indoctrination Wow. That’s a pretty loaded blog title. Maoist indoctrination? Hmmm. Well, I don’t buy into it being an excuse to declare martial law and enslave the white race. That’s a bit of a stretch. Engineered plague? Only if you buy into the martial law and enslavement thing, yeah I can see you believing this one too. But what really bites me is this swine flu vaccination is being shoved down our throat, and up our noses, under the guise of a national emergency while not nearly as many people have died from H1N1 as have those who get the regular flu every year and the Obama kids are not even going to be vaccinated. What’s up with that Mr. and Mrs. Obama? A money making scam for Big Pharma? Now this is a conspiracy I can sink my teeth into.

POPSMichelle Obama Hula Hoops (Video) The First Lady sponsored a Health Day for Kids on the White House lawn. There was food and games. She did some barefoot running on the grass, jump roping and this video clip with the hula hoop. Gads...how nice not to have uptight, hate-mongers running the country anymore. Of course, everyone's a critic these days. She could work on her jump roping, imo. I think we should hear more complaints about this on Fox Non-News.

POPSIn search of silence in a sickeningly loud world
More: It should come as no surprise that rats exposed to a buzzer sounding for six out of every 30 seconds, seven hours a day for 35 days suffer from high blood pressure. There is some sign of habituation over time, but these buzzer-rats are still darting back and forth across their cages by day 35, while rats in quieter cages have markedly lower blood pressure and tend not to pace so nervously. For humans, six hours of exposure to 90-decibel sound significantly elevates the heart rate and leaves it there up to an hour after the noise is gone. Nearly every significant study looking for a link between exposure to noise and risk of heart attack has found one. In 2005, research in Berlin hospitals looking at more than 4,000 cases (half of them heart attacks) revealed that people subjected to loud environments are at a 50 percent greater risk of having a heart attack. Among school kids, the effect of noise shows up in the form of learning disabilities.

POPS1/3 of ParentsSay No To H1N1 Shot It's one of those things where you're almost damned if you do, damned if you don't I thought they weren't using Thermerosol in vaccines anymore. The preservative is not in the FluMist nasal spray, which can be given to healthy kids age 2 and older. But it's in many injectable doses, which are packaged in multi-dose vials that require thimerosal to prevent bacterial contamination

POPSRon Clark Academy Obamacare Rap on CNN (Propaganda Video) The kids from Ron Clark Academy were featured on CNN singing a definitely pro Obamacare song . CNN made no qualms about not only letting the kids rap in favor of healthcare reform, but they also displayed the lyrics loud and clear for all to see. The left in this country has a clear and sometimes not so clear agenda, but an agenda none the less. It’s simply reprehensible that the left would stoop to the level of using school children to push that agenda. The Ron Clark Academy video on CNN proves that without a doubt. POPSEvil Insurance Companies!! So should we get rid of the evil insurance companies who pay a higher percentage of claims than medicare? And that is BEFORE the Medicare cuts and BEFORE "Comparative Effectiveness Research" starts being used to determine care... remember - "Maybe Grandma would be better off with a pain pill" and of course stopping those evil capitalist doctors wanting to remove kids tonsils because they would make more money than prescribing antibiotics.

POPSBacteria Have Role in Swine Flu Deaths Earlier CDC reports found that H1N1 swine flu deaths tended to be caused by direct infection of the lungs with the new flu bug. That may have caused doctors to let down their guard against bacterial infections in flu patients. the CDC now advises doctors who suspect bacterial infections in swine flu patients to treat them with anti-flu drugs and antibiotics. The CDC report carries dramatic examples of H1N1 swine flu deaths with bacterial infections: * A 2-month-old girl, with no known underlying condition, died with pneumococcal infection after an illness of only one day. * A 9-year-old girl with no reported underlying condition died with a strep infection after an illness of six days. * A 34-year-old man with high blood pressure and obesity died with pneumococcal infection after an illness of about three days.

POPSMandatory flu vaccination splits Healthcare workers If I were in their position I too would be outraged. Half of the Doctors I have talked too are not even recommending for their patients and certainly our pediatricians are saying not to get the H1N1 for our kids, which we had not planned to do anyway. If I was these doctors and nurses I would just not get it as the state is just asking for a huge shortage of nurses and docs by doing this. Society needs the nurses and docs, they don't necessarily need to stay at these jobs.
