Escape From Reality With Stories Of Myth And Magic
merrie
by merrie  5-8-2008
The answer is in the magical letter "D" next to a politician's name, which tends to vanish mysteriously in news media reports! It is almost always possible to apply both 'W' and 'R' to news and pictures of death, destruction, global warming, economic downturn, etc. By Pioneer Pavlik Brought to you by the MSM: "Indulging your fantasies because the truth is just too hard to bear" The next mystery letter of the day: "A HYPHEN"

How Progressivism Killed Detroit
willhelm
by willhelm  4-1-2008
"Public-sector unions protect the dismal status quo. Detroit high schools graduate just a third of their students, according to an estimate by Michigan State University. But when a philanthropist offered to spend $200 million to create 15 new charter high schools, teachers staged a walk-out. Mayor Kilpatrick spurned the offer. These failing schools throw kids with no skills into a struggling economy in an environment characterized by social breakdown."

I can't believe the media is still playing these stupid games. If it were a republican, that fact would be in the headlines.

Rape-related pregnancy
jklugman
by jklugman  3-12-2006    7
Wow, 5% of reported rapes result in a pregnancy, in a third of the cases the victim did not know about the pregnancy until the second trimester, nearly half of rape victims opt for an abortion. Via Josh Rosenau http://jgrr.blogspot.com/ and Lindsay Beyerstein http://majikthise.typepad.com (check out Lindsay's commentary on abortion bans with rape exemptions here: http://majikthise.typepad.com/majikthise_/2006/03/rape_and_aborti.html)

Detroit Welcomes Super Bowl XL
bookchick49
by bookchick49  2-2-2006
As a native Detroiter, I have to say that Detroit feels like it did a long time ago. Bustling with people, activity and celebrity. LA, NY and Chicago have had reputations for pulling in tourists and hosting events. Detroit has had a bad rap - ever since the riots in the 60's and unfortunately, people don't forget. Bottom line is that NY, LA and Chicago are not much different from Detroit when you're talking about "bad neighborhood areas" and crime rates. Detroit has devoted time and money over the years to bring itself back into the tourist and entertainment limelight, and I believe the Super Bowl has presented Detroit with the opportunity to prove itself.
