POPS45 Amazing and Incredible Artificial Islands Artificial islands — those created by humans rather than natural means — constructed in the distant past and becoming increasingly rampant in recent years have been built by all sorts of revolutionary and bizarre methods and materials, from construction upon existing reefs, drudging of sand and blasted rock, to stainless steel, and even trash.

POPSDesert Lady Very interesting photograph with the contrast of the beige sand with the lady in her red dress. Loads of symbolism here but I'll leave that to you, I feel in that area to each his own.

POPSNelson Rolihlahla Mandela Turns 90 Today Nelson Mandela spent 27 years as a political prisoner in South Africa before becoming the country's first black president. Mandela was a leading member of the African National Congress (ANC), which opposed South Africa's white minority government and its policy of racial separation, known as apartheid. The government outlawed the ANC in 1960. Mandela was captured and jailed in 1962, and in 1964 he was convicted of treason and sentenced to life in prison. Instead of disappearing from view, Mandela became a prison-bound martyr and worldwide symbol of resistance to racism. South African President F.W. de Klerk finally lifted the ban on the ANC and released Mandela in 1990. Mandela used his stature to help dismantle apartheid and form a new multi-racial democracy, and he and de Klerk shared the Nobel Peace Prize in 1993. Mandela was elected the country's president in 1994. He served until 1999, when he was succeeded by his deputy Thabo Mbeki.

POPSAsimov's 30 Laws of Robotics Par 1 (#4-11) If you know Asimov's first Three Laws of Robotics then you either are a scifi fan or a Will Smith Super-Fan (it was a better than average movie and for Will a better than average Will Smith movie which says a lot as I am NOT a Will Smith Super-Fan, He just makes smart movies.) But if you are in the dark about the first 3 laws of robotics here they are: 1. A robot may not injure a human being or, through inaction, allow a human being to come to harm. 2. A robot must obey the orders given it by human beings, except where such orders would conflict with the First Law. 3. A robot must protect its own existence as long as such protection does not conflict with the First or Second Laws. OK Now that we are all on the same web page, enjoy the wonderful witticisms...

POPSThis is my "Stalker Theory of Romantic Movies"! I have thought for years that a lot of the mildly inappropriate stalker-y behavior that some guys exhibit can be blamed on stalking disguised as romance in movies. Singing in the Rain? Gene Kelly stalks Debbie Reynolds. You've Got Mail? Please, don't get me started. Guys and Dolls? Marlon Brando MUST know better than Jean Simmons what she wants/needs! Cinderella? Yeah, that's normal behavior - if she didn't give you her name, go door to door until you find her. /rant.
