Moscow’s Plan is to Redraw the Map of Europe: Mikheil Saakashvili
merrie
by merrie  9-5-2008    4
Since Russia’s invasion, its forces have been “cleansing” Georgian villages in both regions – including outside the conflict zone – using arson, rape and execution. Human rights groups have documented these actions. It hopes the west will forget ethnic cleansing in Abkhazia drove out more than three-quarters of the local population – ethnic Georgians, Greeks, Jews and others – leaving the minority Abkhaz in control. Last week Vaclav Havel, the former Czech president, put us on alert: “Russia does not really know where it begins and where it ends.” He noted that the Moscow regime is “a lot more sophisticated” than the Soviets under Leonid Brezhnev. He should know – he was on the front line the last time Russia invaded a European country. Backing Georgia with Europe’s political and financial institutions is a powerful response. The most potent western response to Russia is to stay united and firm by providing immediate material and political support.

McCain Camp. Manager: Election 'Not About Issues'
Wisco
by Wisco  9-3-2008    1
Obama hits back today: “Which probably explains why last night when they were speaking, all these speakers (at the Republican National Convention) came up, you didn’t hear a single word about the economy,” Obama said at an economic forum in New Philadelphia, Ohio. “Not once did people mention the hardships that people are going through.” “I guess I don’t blame them,” Obama added, “because if you don’t have any issues to run on, you want it all to be about personality. If you have got George Bush’s track record and John McCain voting 90 percent of the time in agreement with George Bush, then you probably you don’t want to talk about issues either.”

It Beats Jesus on Toast!
AtlLiberal
by AtlLiberal  9-3-2008    2
I'm astounded too. Not by the "Allah meat" but by the gullibility of people. And they even found a vet who gave credence by claiming it "defied scientific explanation". As far as no explanation this shows an astounding lack of imagination. I'm no vet but can readily come with an explanation as could any rational person. But then, who ever claimed that the Allah beef followers were rational? There is a name for this phenomenon: pareidolia: "The tendency to interpret a vague stimulus as something known to the viewer; such as interpreting marks on Mars as canals or seeing shapes in clouds." I'm off to McD now and fully expect to find a holy patty. Ha!

In the spirit of Dr. King, I too have a dream. I have a vision of a Truth Commission in the United States that will create a process of accountability for the war crimes and human rights violations committed by the Bush administration during these past eight years. I see a campaign that will enable our citizens to eventually cast a vote for the principles of the Hague and Geneva Conventions that protect the rights of prisoners of war and of civilian populations. I see a growing movement of citizens empowered to bring Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and others into a process of justice for their commissioning of illegal wiretapping, torturing prisoners, and killing innocent civilians.

In other words, Microsoft had created a seamless, successful photosynth using hundreds of existing photos, taken by different people at different times using all kinds of cameras.

Russia-Georgia: Russia vs. USA on Grand Chessboard
blueridge
by blueridge  8-14-2008    4
A worthwhile read to see the bigger picture, and how Georgia attacked! under cover of the Olympics, then Putin immediately responded (not how it is being presented to you). Yes, Georgia was the aggressor, Russia responded (whereas my clips said they conducted a pre-emptive attack because of evidence Georgia would attack South Ossetia). From the day that the Russian tank brigade raced through the tunnel into South Ossetia, Russia has not made one wrong move. Mr Bush's remarks yesterday notwithstanding, In five days it turned an overreaching blunder by a Western-backed opponent into a devastating exposure of Western impotence, dithering and double standards on respecting national sovereignty (viz Iraq). The attack was short, sharp and deadly - enough to send the Georgians fleeing in humiliating panic, their rout captured by global television.

McCain Divorced his Crippled Wife to Marry Cindy
blueridge
by blueridge  8-10-2008    6
"in sickness and in health....til death do us part"? McCain claims to be a man of honor and his word. This is an interesting test of that "straight talk". McCain claimed to be a Christian too during the primaries, so this is a fair consideration to weigh. "Maverick" should actually be "pragmatist", John will do whatever John wants.

Bernie Mac, Comedian Dies at Age 50
merrie
by merrie  8-9-2008
–and poor people who were the shoe repairmen, pressers of trousers, low level factory workers who ran through long spates of lay-off after lay-off, waitresses, short order cooks, maids, housecleaners, laundry takers-inners, and people who had no jobs… they lived in tiny one-story houses or duplexes with the back porch often boarded over to make a second bedroom. The last is the layer Bernie Mac came from. He was raised by his mother, Mary, who died when he was sixteen. Bernie Mac was an orphan who made his way in the world. And his comedy reflected the envy and longing and love of the layers of Black people on his home turf… he loved nothing more than to make fun of arrogance and haughtiness, and had a sharp eye for the facial expressions and gestures of humans ‘acting up,’ He mimed those gestures perfectly. He was a ‘body’ comedian therefore, not only a spoken word comedian.

Although I haven't used youversion.com, it is really causing a lot of good to happen. For instance, this quote is nothing but good. 6.2 million minutes over the course of two weeks reading the Bible! That is only those who have an iphone/itouch and who actually use this program. That is very good news. Spend time in the Bible. Nothing will change you like engaging in it.
