POPSOlympic Flashback: '02 Salt Lake Games Tainted By Scandal, Bribery and Glenn Beck's Church
Almost as soon as Romney took the job, however, the Mormon Church's role in the Games became a source of contention - a dispute exacerbated by Romney's request for an additional $8 million in loaned property and cash from the church, among other contributions. Utah's wealthiest businessman, Jon Huntsman Sr., the father of Utah's current governor, assailed Romney for exploiting his ties to the church. Huntsman himself is prominent in the Mormon Church, which is officially known as the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. ''We've got a chairman who is active LDS, now we've got a present CEO who is active LDS,'' Huntsman was quoted in the Salt Lake Tribune as saying of Garff and Romney. ''They claim they're going out really scour the world to find the best person, and Mitt brings in one of his cronies to be the COO. Another broken promise. Because we've got three LDS folks who are all cronies. Cronyism at its peak. ..... These are not the Mormon Games.'

POPSMormons (Some) Doing Their Own Thinking The LDS church doesn't apologize. They have expedient "revelations" and claim that God changed his mind. The hierarchy doesn't like dissent, either. Congratulations, ldsapology.org, but be careful! You're doing the right thing here.

POPSLDS Church Doing It Again Still, not as bad as when, years ago now, they had their prophet holed up in the inner sanctums of the Salt Lake temple for days, fasting and praying and "pleading with the Lord" to allow blacks (men only, of course) to hold the priesthood. So God is a racist? He had to be convinced? Mormons, give us a break already!

POPSBook of Mormon Geography The Book of Mormon story happened somewhere. It had to have a location. But where? It is our assertion that the heartlands of the Book of Mormon peoples—the Nephites, the Lamanites, the Jaredites and the people of Mulek—were located in what is now the peninsula of Baja California.

POPSRaising The Bar
"Dismissal from school was the punishment along with excommunication if they refused to change their lifestyle. While the cases are too numerous to discuss in this article, one example of ferreting out Gays is worth discussing. This involved five young Gay BYU students all in their 20s, three of whom had recently completed missions for the LDS Church. Four of these men "had been trapped in the on-going homosexual witch hunts at BYU and subjected to the church's disciplinary program. The fifth young man had confessed voluntarily to church leaders that he was Gay. Each one was harshly interviewed in 1965 by Apostle Spencer Kimball later church president. Unfortunately, when the church rejected them because they were Gay, it destroyed them. All five students killed themselves. Two of the students committed suicide by over-dosing on drugs, one hung himself, another blew his own head apart with a gun and the last jumped seven stories to his death. Electrical shock therapy to cause aver

POPSBravo! I'm not a Mormon, but truly admire much of their lifestyle. How much better would all of our families be if we adopted some of their practices.

POPS'Nazi' Pope Runs 'Child-Abusing Cult,' says HBO's Maher I am no Catholic...or defender of Imus or Pat Robertson or the LDS; but why does this hateful man's remarks not receive the condemnation that they deserve? There seems to be selective outrage within our society. He appears to have his own brand of 'cult' thinking that he spreads with impunity.

POPSHoly Nonsense - Romney's worthless speech. Romney drones on about a barely relevant moment of emotion in 1774 and comes up with the glib slogan that "freedom requires religion just as religion requires freedom." Any fool can think of an example where freedom exists without religion—and even more easily of an instance where religion exists without (or in negation of) freedom.
