POPSinteractive guide: Who in the Bush administration broke the law, and who could be prosecuted
Each scandal is represented by a colored circle that encompasses the people who are implicated. As it's easy to see, many of the players here are mixed up in two, three, or more of the alleged crimes. Hence all the overlapping circles (Venn-diagram heaven!). The best way to make sense of this legal tangle is to mouse over the title of an individual scandal, which will highlight everyone implicated. For example, the wiretapping bubble ensnares George W. Bush, Dick Cheney, David Addington, John Ashcroft, John Yoo, and Alberto Gonzales. At the same time, Ashcroft and Gonzales fall into the overlapping circle for monkey business related to DoJ hiring. Mouse over a person's name for information on how each person is involved. Mouse over the title of each circle for specifics about the particular scandal. And if all else fails, fall back on this golden rule of wrongdoing in the White House: All roads lead to Gonzales.

POPSFeds Settle Lawsuit, $5.8 Million for Anthrax "Person of Interest" Huge cover-up in the anthrax case, and the media is to blame for not questioning the motives, story, of the government looking into this man publicly: The statement also blamed journalists for not questioning the motives of the government's statements or its tactics. Now look at the terms in which the government settled this out of court. Why not let it go to trial instead of paying up? The only motive could be to cover-up the truth of what happened and silence his legal allegations: "The United States does not admit to any violation of the Privacy Act and continues to deny all liability in connection with Dr. Hatfill's claims," So the Feds pay the man $5.8 million for nothing? It was not "Islamo Fascists" who wrote "Allah is great" on the anthrax letters...it was a false flag directed at Leahy and Daschle in Congress! See the 9/11 Anthrax Frame Up

POPS Exposing The Hidden Jihad In America You can download a pdf file of a shorter version of the legal memorandum, which will be published in the Utah Law Review in Sept 2008. The Center also works to educate the public, press and policymakers on the significant risks of Shariah and Shariah-Compliant Finance through the blog http://shariahfinancewatch.wordpress.com and a free weekly email newsletter, the Shariah Risk Due Diligence Newsletter. In addition to the legal analysis cited above, the Shariah Risk Due Diligence financial research team has been hard at work and their analyses will be introduced in May and June. On April 17, the Center announced the launch of a national campaign to alert the public to the serious risks of Shariah-Compliant Finance and Shariah Law - the Stop Shariah Now campaign. Other organizations including ACT America have also started national campaigns to stop the spread of Shariah-Compliant Finance through the U.S. finance system.

POPS FISA Debate Heats Up Dodd, Hard-Left Push For Filibuster Currently, that deal is scheduled to sunset in early February. The Democrats’ strategy is transparent. They realize their position underscores how weak they are on national security and how beholden they are to the CAIR/ACLU/MoveOn.org Left, which is more animated by the “rights” of terrorists than the lives of Americans. If they can con the Bush administration into accepting the 18-month extension, that takes the issue off the table for the 2008 election. Not only would Hillary Clinton and Barack Obama be able to avoid being accountable for their party’s unpopular position. The ducking would further help one of them win the presidency, whereupon she or he could help Democrats sculpt a more terrorist-friendly FISA in 2009, when no one is up for re-election and public scrutiny ebbs. h/t Andy McCarthy

POPSThinking 'Bout Vioxx There's tons of discussion today about this great NYT piece on how well Merck's Vioxx defense strategy -- basically, play rope-a-dope -- has worked. The unanswered question is whether this basically represents a failure of the legal system -- whatever happened to a fair and speedy trial? Does Merck have a huge liability that it is just putting off for the future, or will the claims dissapate as plaintiffs give up, run out of money, or die? That's one of the big questions every drug firm wants answered. --Matt Herper

POPSI Love When The Courts Smack Walmart I make no bones about it; I despise Walmart and everything it stands for. The exploit and take total advantage of the workers they so condescendingly refer to as "associates." They thrive off the cheap and child labour or the third world and make it sound like they are doing the world a favour. And they have so many poor Americans believing they are getting bargains without ever admitting to the way they are able to keep their prices low or how they are keeping their employees on week to week subsistence levels of income. I am glad the courts are cracking down. Problem is, they can so easily afford these judgments that it probably won't hurt them a bit. The only thing that will actually do them so real damage, is when or if the American people wake up and stop falling for Walmart's so-called bargain prices.

POPSIslam: On Women Leading Prayer - Fatwa by Dr. Abou El Fadl Shaykh Abou El Fadl: This is a controversial issue, and so I do not offer this advice lightly. Ultimately, God knows best, and I might be wrong. So please read what I have written, reflect on the matter, pray on it, and then do what your conscience selflessly dictates. It is the conscience that is the ultimate protector from liability before God.

POPSBelief-O-Matic Quiz "The top score on the list below represents the faith that Belief-O-Matic, in its less than infinite wisdom, thinks most closely matches your beliefs. However, even a score of 100% does not mean that your views are all shared by this faith, or vice versa." "Belief-O-Matic then lists another 26 faiths in the order of how much they have in common with your professed beliefs. The higher a faith appears on this list, the more closely it aligns with your thinking." The top two results of this 20-question quiz didn't surprise me, but the degree of commonality of my beliefs with some of the other faiths did. Lots of food for thought here. I encourage you to take the quiz and see how well the results fit your ideas of your own religious and spiritual beliefs.
