POPSLet's junk the myths and celebrate what we've got Moreover, we need to become responsible versus petty humans; in the words of the article "When you see nothing but junk, create quality. Where quality is hard to find, curate it, adding your own seal of approval with a link. When you read inaccuracies and misunderstandings, add facts, corrections, context and journalism. If people on the internet get things wrong, educate them. When you hear the noise of people talking online, listen." Thumbs up.

POPSFrom Empire to Democracy
(c0nt.)There is a much better solution to the current financial crisis. But it requires discarding what has been conventional "wisdom" for too long: that government intervention in the economy ("big government") must be avoided like the plague, because the "free market" will guide the economy towards growth and justice. Let's face a historical truth: we have never had a "free market", we have always had government intervention in the economy, and indeed that intervention has been welcomed by the captains of finance and industry. They had no quarrel with "big government" when it served their needs. It started way back, when the founding fathers met in Philadelphia in 1787 to draft the constitution. The first big bail-out was the decision of the new government to redeem for full value the almost worthless bonds held by speculators. And this role of big government, supporting the interests of the business classes, continued all through the nation's history. The rationale for taki

POPSTall tales "Let's start telling the truth," Biden said during a presidential primary debate sponsored by YouTube last year. "Number one, you take all the troops out - you better have helicopters ready to take those 3,000 civilians inside the Green Zone, where I have been seven times and shot at. You better make sure you have protection for them, or let them die." But when questioned about the episode afterward by the Hill newspaper, Biden backpedaled from his claim of being "shot at" and instead allowed: "I was near where a shot landed."

POPSVeep Debate Moderator Writing Book on Obama Yes, it is going to be that fawning. Ifill profiles” three other prominent (liberal) politicians on their success. Note I said liberal. Aside from token mentions of Colin Powell, the excludes Codi Rice, Clarence Thomas, j. C. Watts, Michael Steele Alan Keyes, and other prominent conservatives. The book focuses on how African-Americans on the political left have benefited from the civil rights movement. As near as I can tell that translates to celebrating a presidential candidate who is the product of affirmative action while dismissing African-Americans on the political right as…what? Sell outs? Anyway, the media does not even make a pretense of non-bias, do they? If you think this should not stand, e-mail: Janet H. Brown, Executive Director of the Debates Commission: jb@debates.org and let her know. I did. YouTube vid :49

POPSRolling Over to Rescue the Bailout
contAll of cable and the networks are rolling over for their bellies to be scratched, helping the dodge that the bailout supporters were not really asking for a bailout, only a rescue. See? There was a great deal of hyperventilating last night on most of the talkies and news, sort of an "Oh No! What have we done!" chorus: We misnamed the rescue a bailout. Missing from this steady stream of thumb-sucking was any mention of the substantive reasons voters were outraged. What precisely was in the bailout bill for taxpayers, homeowners, renters? Was there any real cap on the greedy executive compensation packages? Investment in job creation? Rescue for homeowners in foreclosure? Along with the Oh No What Have We Done is the mantra of The Great Credit Freeze: small businesses won't be able to meet payroll; 401k and pension funds are cascading in value; there may not even be money in the ATM machine. The media herd, incredulous that its losing supporters of the bailout, is re-tool
