Lieberman Would Address RNC
Wisco
by Wisco  7-20-2008
My take? This is Lieberman's final term. He's not going to run in 2012. Mostly because he can't; he's completely destroyed his career as a public servant. In an '06 do-over, polls show Holy Joe would lose in a landslide to Lamont.

McCain Flips at Legit Question
cptenaud
by cptenaud  7-3-2008    3
McCain's response? "Please," he said, recoiling back in his seat in distaste at the very question. Uh uh. That's not good enough. You would assume that given all the whining over General Clark's legitimate point, that John McCain had some obvious answer to the question. Instead, he refused to answer the question, and let Joe Lieberman and Lindsay Graham come to his defense, babbling to the reporter about character, but not a word about qualifications. The fact of the matter is that General Clark was absolutely right. McCain's service, while heroic and honorable, is not very relevant when it comes to preparing him to be the military's ultimate commander. His experience didn't involve executive decision making in the military, or global strategy. Very few candidates for the presidency have had the experience in life that prepares them for that role. In fact, McCain said it himself in 2003, that some of our best Commanders in Chief had no military experience at all.

Lefty Blogosphere Petitions Dems to Drop Lieberman
Wisco
by Wisco  7-2-2008    2
The piece goes on: Next week, Democratic activists and liberal bloggers plan to deliver the petition to members of the Senate Democratic Steering Committee, which will make recommendations on committee assignments next Congress to Nevada Democrat Harry Reid, the Senate majority leader. They also plan to keep the grassroots pressure on the Democrats until those decisions are made after the November elections. Leaders of this effort hope to mirror the success bloggers had in fueling the candidacy of businessman Ned Lamont, who beat Lieberman on an anti-war platform in the Connecticut 2006 Senate Democratic primary. Running as an Independent, Lieberman later defeated Lamont in the midterm elections. Now that Liberman's stumping for McCain and a continued majority in the Senate is a leadpipe cinch, dems really should kick Joe out on his ass. Screw him. They need this guy like a boat needs a drain.

McCain vs. Obama On National Security

that espouses the destruction of the State of Israel as its fondest wish and pledges undying enmity to the United States to possess the weapons to advance their malevolent ambitions." He also rejects "unconditional dialogues" with Iran. Obama has delivered messages on Iran that were more mixed. But that only makes diplomacy more important. If we must use military force, we are more likely to succeed, and will have far greater support at home and abroad, if we have exhausted our diplomatic efforts." In the same speech, however, Obama promised: "aggressive, principled diplomacy without self-defeating preconditions....Obama missed a vote on a controversial amendment offered by Sen. Jon Kyl and Lieberman that proposed labeling Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard a terrorist organization . Obama called the amendment a repeat of the mistakes that led to war in Iraq; however, he had cosponsored an earlier bill declaring the Revolutionary Guard a terrorist organization

Lieberman Warns of a 9/11 in 2009 for McCain
blueridge
by blueridge  6-30-2008    3
Islamo propaganda from this Israeli-neoconservative democrat. Is it not more evident just who was behind 9/11 and the absolutely unproven claims that "Islamic extremists"--i.e. bin Laden who denied it, and 19 Muslims, half of which were proven alive afterward--did it? Who benefits from 9/11 and this propaganda more than Israel and the neoconservative agenda for a new middle east? We know who would be behind it if another occurs, the same behind the first one. For Lieberman to "predict" this demonstrates inside knowledge (if it happens) and a clear motive on his part for even desiring it to push the war agenda. Lieberman's argument is also entirely irrational. If Islamic extremists want the U.S. out of the middle east and wars halted, they would do nothing at all. There has been nothing prohibiting repeated terrorism if those blamed for 9/11 were true and Al Qaeda was not in Iraq. Motive, means, and opportunity point to the real perpetrators per criminology 101.

Obama and Iran:The Democrats Modern-Day McGovern
merrie
by merrie  6-14-2008
Judging from last week's address to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC), Sen. Barack Obama doesn't want voters to see him as soft on Iran and its genocidal President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. The Iranians "understand - sometimes, it seems, better than a lot of Americans do - that if American power collapses in Iraq, if we abandon our allies" then "our position throughout the region will become much weaker and Iran's position much stronger," Lieberman added. The Senate - including well over half of the Democrats - voted for the amendment, which passed 76-22. Obama, who was absent, said he opposed the amendment because it could be used as pretext to invade Iran. Obama denounced Kyl-Lieberman as "reckless" and criticized his chief rival, Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, for supporting it. However tough he tries to sound when talking to AIPAC, Barack Obama's real sympathies are with the George Soros/MoveOn.org wing of the Democrat Party.

The Decline Of The Senate
merrie
by merrie  6-13-2008
Senator Specter, age 78 "The American people live under the illusion that we have a United States Senate. The facts show that the Senate is realistically dysfunctional. It is on life support, perhaps even moribund. The only facet of Senate bipartisanship is the conspiracy of successive Republican and Democratic leaders to employ this procedural device known as filling the tree. It is known that way to insiders, and it is incomprehensible to outsiders." The device was used last week when Reid called up the bill to control global warming, producing the state of futility that has haunted Reid's year and a half as majority leader. Characteristically, Reid neither found support to pass this bill nor attempted a compromise with opponents. Debating an energy tax as gasoline prices hit four dollars defied political logic. But Sen. Barbara Boxer, chairman of the Environment Committee, insisted. Reid bowed to her.

What is the Democrat’s plan? So far, none of their energy legislation has added one ounce of oil to supply the needs of Americans. However, they have had plenty of ideas to RAISE gas taxes (here, here and here) and gas prices even higher. Republicans HAVE a plan that would lower gas prices. But thus far, House Democrats have refused to allow the “No More Excuses Energy Act” to come to the floor for a vote. What are Democrats afraid of? Since When Has 'Straight Talk' Meant Lies?
Wisco

Baghdad Johnny's been playing fast and loose with the facts lately. Another Annenberg item tells us, "McCain was asked by a New Orleans reporter why he voted twice against an independent commission to investigate the government’s failings before and after Hurricane Katrina, and he incorrectly stated that he had 'voted for every investigation.'" He voted against investigations in 2005 and 2006. When Obama pointed this out, McCain called the truth "tired negative attacks." You stay classy, John.

McCain misrepresents Obama's stand on naming Revolutionary Guard as terrorists.
Yassin_M

Analysis For the past two weeks, presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain and Democratic front-runner (and now presumptive nominee) Barack Obama have engaged in a war of words over their respective positions on Iran. In a June 2 speech to the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, McCain upped the ante, criticizing Obama's failure to support an amendment that called for designating Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization, a charge that McCain repeats on his Web site. It's true that Obama opposed the amendment in question. But McCain is wrong to suggest that Obama's opposition had anything to do with the IRGC's designation. And McCain fails to mention that Obama cosponsored an earlier bill that would have named the IRGC a terrorist organization. Wait, What Are We Fighting About Again? Let's start with that whole Revolutionary Guard business. Here's McCain at AIPAC:

"Cap and Trade" NO GOOD
merrie
by merrie  6-5-2008
In these turbulent economic times, Democrats are proposing to increase the price of gas, outsource millions of jobs to overseas providers, and create a massive new bureaucracy funded by your (additional) tax dollars. The World Resources Institute reports that, "air pollution in some Chinese cities is among the highest ever recorded, averaging more than ten times the standard proposed by the World Health Organization... In Beijing, 40 percent of autos surveyed and 70 percent of taxis failed to meet the most basic emission standards." USA Today reports that, " ecades of... pollution have allowed industrial poisons to leach into groundwater, contaminating drinking supplies and leading to a rash of cancers, residents say. In this village, where the air has a distinctive sour odor, the rate of cancer is more than 18 times the national average. Meanwhile, the world's worst polluters continue choking the atmosphere with toxic fumes and poisons.

price of every good and service in the economy. The Environmental Protection Agency estimates that this meddling would cause a cumulative reduction in the growth of GDP by between 0.9% and 3.8% by 2030. Add 20 years, and the reduction is between 2.4% and 6.9% – that is, from $1 trillion to $2.8 trillion. These estimates assume that electricity prices will increase by 44% above what they would otherwise be by 2030. They also assume that existing coal-fired power plants, which currently provide about 50% of U.S. electric power, will be shut down – to be replaced with at least 150% growth in new nuclear facilities, plus other "alternatives." California Democrat Barbara Boxer last week introduced 157 pages of amendments to Warner-Lieberman. Most notably, she sets aside at least $800 billion through 2050 for consumer tax relief. So while imposing a huge new tax on all Americans, she vouchsafes to return some of the money to some people.

Lieberman Pushing Internet Censorship; Bill in Congress
blueridge
by blueridge  6-3-2008    2
NY Times editorial opposing his attempt to censor the internet. Tell your Senators to oppose this pending legislation , which is a ruse for censorship. Pardon me, but if "Al Qaeda" and "bin Laden" post videos on the internet at radical sites (per neocon propaganda fronts like SITE, and reported by ABC News), why can they not find them? (Those sites are not on YouTube or easily obtained). Answer: Because then there would be no propaganda to support the "war on terrorism" and "homeland security". All of this comes against the backdrop of a troubling Congressional antiterrorism bill that also focuses on the Internet. The Violent Radicalization and Homegrown Terrorism Prevention Act, which passed the House last year by a 404-to-6 vote, would establish a commission to study the terrorist threat and propose legislation. The bill, which the Senate has not acted on, has a finding that the Internet p

Economist: We Can't Afford Not to Address Global Warming
Wisco
by Wisco  6-2-2008
So says Dr. Frank Ackerman, Economist, Tufts University & Stockholm Environment Institute in response to a promised Bush veto of climate legislation. Agence France-Presse : Bush warned that the bill "would impose roughly six trillion dollars of new costs on the American economy," and was the "wrong way to proceed." White House spokeswoman Dana Perino said Bush would veto the bill "if it were to pass in its current form." Not surprisingly, this is BS. The legislation includes " cap and trade " provisions, which would open new markets.
