POPSStrollers not fitting in the local digs... I find that around here there are options for good food that are okay with my kids (Taco Pica, for one, where Marah locked herself in the bathroom on Saturday and we had to force the door open). But it is true that some places are just not kid-friendly, which bites for those of us who miss our organic, local food and our local coffee. (Side note: the Tim's within walking distance of us is too small for a stroller and it's extremely annoying. Especially because the alternative - the restaurant down the mall - has shitty coffee.)

POPSChristians flee Mosul after violence Since the US-led invasion of 2003 more than 200 Christians have been killed across Iraq and a string of churches attacked, with the violence intensifying in recent weeks, particularly in the north. Hundreds of thousands of Sunnis and Shiites have also died in sectarian violence since Saddam Hussein's ouster. Around 800,000 Christians lived in Iraq at the time of the US-led invasion, but the number has since shrunk by around a third as the faithful have fled the country.

POPS Obama Joined Democratic Socialist Party In 1995 ...the NP's '96 Political Program has been enormously successful with 3 of 4 endorsed candidates winning electoral primaries. All four candidates attended the NP membership meeting on April 11th to express their gratitude... Barack Obama, victor in the 13th State Senate District, encouraged NPers to join in his task forces on Voter Education and Voter Registration. Obama is not simply an ultra-liberal. He is a Marxist. He campaigned on the Socialist ticket, signed the Socialist contract, and attended Socialist meetings. I'll ask it again: just who in the hell is Barack Obama? And who sent him? Update: American Thinker, Gateway Pundit, Newsbusters and Jammie Wearing Fool have more. Original DSA newsletters: #47 and #42. Linked by: Ace o' Spades. Thanks!

POPSBush signs bill to turn military satellites on U.S. G W Bush, aka Big Brother, is inching closer to allowing Homeland Security greater access to military satellites, despite statutes that make it illegal to use the armed forces to "execute the laws" within U.S. borders. Bush continues to subvert civil protection laws in the government's obsessive quest to 'know' everything that goes on within our borders. This shows this administrations sociopathic distrust of its citizens and a continued lack of respect for its citizens privacy.

POPSCanon supports secret garden in urban jungle to Greenwash their waste example of public-private partnership to support a local community garden in NYC. This is a call for community participation. Canon partnered with the American Park Network to offset their carbon with the purchase of trees. The APN then donates trees to local parks and works with community groups to plant them. It would be a cool deal, but it's not much coming from canon. Not while they continue to produce highly wasteful print cartridges, and as far as I can see still haven't come out with a refillable cartridge. Canon is so so NOT GREEN!

POPSTed Turner Launches New Sustainable Tourism Strategy What exactly is sustainable tourism? While many have tried to clarify the concept, it often seems like a collection of vague ideals. But today Ted Turner and a newly founded coalition of 27 organizations have put forth specific criteria. It includes jobs for locals, including in management positions; support for local entrepreneurs; and protection of important archeological, historical, spiritual and cultural sites. Do you think these guidelines will help protect destinations and the people who live there?
