POPSMugtada al-Sadr keeps the truce for now.... Cont.... Such tales abound. Sudani said she'd heard of troops bursting into a woman's home and arresting her four sons, as a soldier threw the mother to the ground and put his boot on her head. Iraqi troops are said to have seized gasoline canisters from a Sadr City resident and distributed them to others, claiming they were from the government. Ali Jassim, 30, another resident, said his cousin's phone rang at a checkpoint with a ringtone containing a chant about Sadr. When soldiers heard it, they slapped him, he said. Sadr's militia, the Mahdi Army, has suffered a series of setbacks since last spring. It lost control of Basra, Iraq's second-largest city, and the southern city of Amara after Prime Minister Nouri al Maliki ordered his forces to retake those areas. Many charge that Maliki is waging a political war against his former allies in time for fall's provincial elections.

POPSAnother Illegal Kills in San Fransicko This poor woman. She has lost her husband and her two boys in a road rage incident that wouldn't have happened if the city's 1989 law preventing city agencies from contacting the feds if they find an illegal. So sad that this happened, made worse knowing it could have been prevented.

POPS60th anniversary: BERLIN Blockade / Airlift Something BIG that Americans really could be proud of ... if only. It is ironic now that the great BLOCKADE BUSTERS of 1948 are now the principles in the implementation of a similar BLOCKADE of Gaza, supporting THE fascist Zionist power! Now Russia is a reluctant co-conspirator with the US, the EU and UN party to this pending atrocity against the democratically elected power.

POPSFlood victims say FEMA is doing a heckuva job Since FEMA received mega-press for it's perceived failures during the Hurricane, it seemed fair to post a clip that gives the organization some praise for doing a good job. However, I believe the magnitude and circumstances are entirely different. I am still amazed by a government/Country who will so willingly hand out millions of dollars to its citizens who have lost homes and property in these *natural* disasters.

POPSTaliban Are Weaker As NATO Attacks Rebels (Update2) Afghan officials said the Taliban have now been cleared from the villages outside the city. Taliban rebels, seeking to overthrow President Hamid Karzai's government, stepped up their insurgency in southern and eastern provinces and increasingly targeted the capital, Kabul, with suicide bombings in recent months. While acknowledging the jail break and fighting posed difficulties, Wood said the international community wouldn't allow the district to fall to the insurgents. Our unified assessment in Kabul is that the Taliban is weaker in 2008 than it was at the beginning of the fighting season in 2007. The Islamist fighters last year lost districts and the U.S. has intelligence of ``some dissatisfaction among the rank and file of the Taliban with their focus on terrorism against innocent civilians. NATO leads a force of more than 53,000 soldiers battling the Taliban.

POPSSUBSTANTIATED TRUE FACTS Breast cancer patients are significantly more likely to have a pet dog instead of a cat. 80% of all breast cancer patients have had "extensive contact" with dogs before their diagnosis. Researchers speculate that dogs (and possibly other pets) harbor viruses that can raise the risk of contracting cancer. - San Diego Union, 11/20/07
