"How Your Brain Can Control Time ??"
einbar
by einbar  Today 3:46 AM    3
"Even in a healthy brain, time is elastic. Staring at an angry face for five seconds feels longer than staring at a neutral one. It may be no coincidence that the pulse-generating neurons are directly wired into regions of the brain that handle emotionally charged sights and sounds. And recent experiments by Amelia Hunt at Harvard University hint that we may actually backdate our mental time line every time we move our eyes."

True tests of leadership
bmeuppls
by bmeuppls  Yesterday 10:10 PM
Continuing the clip: "Senator Obama made a different choice. He not only opposed the new strategy, but actually tried to prevent us from implementing it. He didn't just advocate defeat, he tried to legislate it. When his efforts failed, he continued to predict the failure of our troops. As our soldiers and Marines prepared to move into Baghdad neighborhoods and Anbari villages, Senator Obama predicted that their efforts would make the sectarian violence in Iraq worse, not better. Three weeks after Senator Obama voted to deny funding for our troops in the field, General Ray Odierno launched the first major combat operations of the surge. Senator Obama declared defeat one month later: "My assessment is that the surge has not worked and we will not see a different report eight weeks from now." His assessment was popular at the time. But it couldn't have been more wrong." And more telling... he always chooses the politically expedient answer.

Sex Is Good For You
debbyski
by debbyski  7-22-2008    12
"When people feel deeply close while merely holding hands, they are having sex. When people display caring for each other through hugs, caresses, and kissing, they are also having sex. When connecting people in a crowded room wink at each other in their own secret way, they are communicating sex to each other; such non-contact sex can be excitedly arousing and emotionally fulfilling. And, of course, during sexual union when the sky seems to open so a lightning bolt can strike the couple--while fireworks ignite and the earth stops spinning-- this is sex, too." Emotional intimacy is so important and the first step is to allow yourself to be vulnerable with someone is taking the time to build that intimacy with others. One of the primary reasons I've always felt close to women is because of emotional intimacy. The whole package of love, companionship and sex can be so appealing, and I think that is one of the reasons men are attracted to women.

Mirrors Don’t Lie.. : -)
einbar
by einbar  7-22-2008    6
“When people are made to be self-aware, they are likelier to stop and think about what they are doing,” Dr. Bodenhausen said. “A byproduct of that awareness may be a shift away from acting on autopilot toward more desirable ways of behaving.” Physical self-reflection, in other words, encourages philosophical self-reflection, a crash course in the Socratic notion that you cannot know or appreciate others until you know yourself. Love and a Puppy
onlinedesign
by onlinedesign  7-11-2008    1
How is it that there is so much wealth in this world and yet, so many people are suffering? We are inundated in the US with commercials that tell us "for only $.33 a day, you can feed a child. After taxes, office expenses, executive expenses, advertising, photo shoots, postage and of course, "handling"...how much of that actually goes to help ANYBODY? We cannot help the whole World. But we can do whatever is in our power to help others in our own Community. That's a start. For the child in the picture, right now "Love is...a puppy." Very soon, he, and others like him, might well discover that "Love is...a Bowl of Rice."

Oil: $60/bbl. by next year (?)
kmcolo
by kmcolo  7-8-2008
I agree that the oil market has been driven by speculation. I'd _love_ to see $60/bbl. if only to screw the world's oil-dictators. But should it go that low again? The best way to screw the world's oil-dictators is to find a successful alternative energy source and $60/bbl. oil will only dampen demand for alternatives. BTW, such wild price swings are a typical feature of an item whose supply is dwindling.

Chickenhawk Smears Clark;Tries to Speak for Military
cptenaud
by cptenaud  7-3-2008    1
But the fact that CNN had this kid on to talk about things for which he has no understanding wasn't the only thing that was disturbing. I love how it's totally unacceptable to give anything other than glowing reviews of John McCain's military experience in Media World, while it's okay to slander General Clark's military service. After Ferguson said that Clark had "ticked off everyone in the military," he went on to say that John McCain had "been in actual war zones while Wesley Clark was sitting in an air-conditioned room, telling people what to do with NATO." Ben needs to brush up on his talking points, because Clark was actually shot four times in Vietnam, and left the country on a stretcher. Most people would consider that having been in an "actual war zone." And to be honest, the next person to debate this kid on TV should ask for an apology--or just ask him what he has against wounded Vietnam veterans.

TOP 20 WORST CASTING DECISIONS EVER Part IV (#1!!!!)
revenantdm
by revenantdm  6-7-2008    2
Oh, Keanu... At least Mike Myers worked past Wayne's World... and others know when they are in over their head. I love ya Kid but you really are missing that je ne sais quoit, that invisible element called charisma and presence. Hell, the PHONE BOOTH had more presence in the Bill and Ted Series! Do what every other bad actor did when he found he was over his head: play non-speaking roles or Native Americans! Hell, Jack Palance learned to act playing heavies and Indians and by his 70s he had his Oscar! Well, at least your debut was better than Costner and I am not talking about "Flyers" the Cycling movie. Costner began his career as the stiff (literally) in the coffin that brought old friends back together for his funeral in The Big Chill. He had over 4 minutes of footage taken with him in the casket and the editors dropped it to just over 4 seconds for release. You at least had a starring role and look, Ashton Kutcher is in your footsteps!
