POPSMake-Believe Maverick--McCain's true nature EXCELLENT article Highly recommend if you are wavering or undecided...Dramesi continued: "McCain says his life changed while he was in Vietnam, and he is now a different man," Dramesi says today. "But he's still the undisciplined, spoiled brat that he was when he went in."

POPSNew Brunswick Veterinarians To Stop Cropping & Docking Good news for dogs! Too bad the breeders are so heartless and self-centered. vet: "People say it doesn't really hurt them, but they scream when you do it" Hopefully it will be illegal for anyone to crop or dock to discourage breeders from mutilating dogs, causing unnecessary pain and risking infection.

POPS"I'm Barack Obama, and I Approve This Bailout" Both left and right on Main St. oppose the bailout bill, and for good reason. Take a look here at how mad many on the left are. Here is his punch line to the get-a-long Democrats in Congress--call it a hard left hook: To the former, the Democratic Party, I say: your support of this Bill as it stands or in any form that simply hands over money and asks the market to take care of the mess makes you our enemies, not our advocates. ...then he lands one squarely on Obama's jaw: To Barack Obama I say: you are a fraud on public credulity. You are no more a "change" agent than I am the Pope. With your support of this bailout, you have acted in direct contradiction to your promise of change Last chance to call your house rep before they RUIN both the market and the economy with those latest Bailout bill.

POPS Shoe Trees, almost universl.. "Maybe what’s most interesting about these bits of folklore though isn’t that they exist, however, but that shoe-flinging isn’t limited to the U.S.–even though as best we can tell shoe trees are. In the Middle East, shoe-tossing or striking is a sign of extreme contempt, almost the exact opposite of the North American meaning, and shoefiti, a pair of old sneakers hanging off of power lines, are almost universal".

POPSNewsweek on the "what if" Newsweek obliquely addresses the concern that if Obama loses, there will be civil unrest - whether or not there is any injustice involved.

POPSDear Old Love I wish I’d saved a few pairs of your underwear, to seal in a jar and keep on a shelf high in the pantry. Is that the sort of thing that makes you miss me, or glad it’s over?

POPSAnother Variety of Insanity What defines "respectable" religion from a cult. I suspect it's either number of followers or going against the favorite wedge issue of the day. In reality, the differences are very small and often hinge on the number of angels on a pin. From the article: "At their Saugus, Calif., church in the 1970s, the Alamos preached that anyone who quit the cult would be killed, driven mad, or changed into a homosexual."

POPSOpenning the door for genetic markets 1) The new regulations do not cover cloned animals, most pets or research animals. The FDA has already determined that clones -- genetic replicas -- are safe. Pets and research animals are unlikely to enter the food chain 2) Only one genetically engineered animal is now being sold in the United States, the glow-in-the-dark zebra fish for aquariums. The FDA approved it because it is not eaten and its need for warm water effectively precludes its escape into the wild 3) Technically, it is not the modified animals but the added DNA segments that are considered drugs

POPSHershey's is going cheap and hoping you won't notice The FDA, in it's attempt to protect us from deceptive advertising practices, has forced Hershey's to admit they no longer use cocoa butter in their products. However, FDA ruling will not prevent Hershey from practicing deception. The packaging looks exactly the same. They are selling an inferior product and they’re not even telling anyone. Do you feel betrayed yet? In a statement, Hershey’s told TODAY that consumers love its products and all its candies are clearly labeled. It still offers real milk chocolate in Hershey’s Kisses, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups and its classic chocolate bar. Most corporations deal with increasing cost by raising their prices, Hershey's substituted inferior ingredients and tried to slip it past us. Buyer beware!

POPSHow much do you trust Federal regulation of food these days? Deregulation, budget gutting, and over politicized Presidential appointments has led to Bush League safety and regulation of anything that has to do with our common interests and security as citizens and consumer. GM animal products are just another scheme to get bigger profit for already obese CEOs and should be opposed until we have real leadership in Congress and the White House.
