POPS'Drag Queens' Promptly Arrested In Hamas Crackdown The Hamas siege prompted exchanges of gunfire and rocket-propelled-grenade attacks between the terror group and the well-armed Hilles family, many members of which are suspected of involvement in terrorism against Israel. But Hamas eventually dominated the clan, storming several high-rise buildings and arresting rooftop snipers, gunmen and wounded fighters. At one point, Hamas arrested 15 Hilles clan members, including 10 who had tried to flee disguised as women, Hamas spokesman Islam Shahwan said.

POPSObama backs Israel strike Just about his first words when he beat off Hillary were pro Israel. He now appears happy with the title of leader of a war machine. Seems happy to follow the Jews demands. Am I getting ahead of myself, as this sort of press doesn't really know what is happening.

POPSOBAMA ON TOUR ! I'm glad to see he's going to both sides on this, while I have no problems with Israel but isn't it about time somebody gives a hand to the Palestinians ♠

POPSTerrorists' Assignment: Protect Barack Obama The Israeli Defense Forces, working with U.S. security coordinators, will protect the main West Bank highway Obama's convoy will use to approach Ramallah. Security for Obama will be largely turned over to the Palestinians once he enters Ramallah, although security plans are being heavily coordinated with the U.S.

POPSMiddle East Minefield For Barack Obama But Israeli officials - with whom he's reportedly meeting on Tuesday - will press him to define his policies about nuclear power and Iran, experts said. "The Israelis are going to have real questions about Iran, and about how he views taking out nuclear facilities there - if they haven't done it already themselves by the time Bush leaves," said Larry Sabato, director of the University of Virginia's Center for Politics. "That topic will come up, on both sides. He'll get asked about it," said former State Department Mideast analyst Graeme Bannerman. "He's got to remember he's speaking to Americans - he's in a campaign, after all - even if that means he has to say things that make the locals very nervous."

POPS800 lb Gorillas Since I've been on this earth there has been conflict here. I applaud any efforts to bring peace but know that it is failed from the start if Israeli complicity in exacerbating the situation with their expansionism is acknowledged and brought to a halt.

POPSHamas/Carter for Peace that Zionist Don't want. "They said they would accept a Palestinian state on the 1967 borders if approved by Palestinians and they would accept the right of Israel to live as a neighbour next door in peace provided the agreements negotiated by Prime Minister Olmert and President Abbas were submitted to the Palestinians for their overall approval, even though Hamas might disagree with some terms of the agreement," Carter said. The Hamas position reflected a key agreement known as the Prisoners' Document, which Hamas signed with its rival Fatah, led by Abbas, two years ago. However, that agreement was overtaken by a near civil war between the two rival groups. The Hamas leaders also told Carter a "national reconciliation" between Hamas and Fatah was necessary for any peace agreement to work, even though the two sides appear a long way from a rapprochement. ...Guardian

POPSLosing Hearts and Minds; Empowering Extremism Before anyone asks why we aren't winning the War on Terror yet, consider these sad headlines. All around the world, reasonable people are being dragged into the slipstream of extremism. The cause is blatant moral bankruptcy. Greed, corruption and exploitation, fortified behind the twin bastions of ignorance and righteousness, are discrediting the institutions that are instrumental in overcoming extremism, intolerance, and global violence. Particularly America remains the store house of the world's hopes and dreams. We are not merely a nation but an ideal, and we must live up to our promise. Obama and McCain are both men of admirable morals and transparent character. Meanwhile, as Hillary obfuscates over her finances, we must realize she lacks the moral authority needed to restore America's international credibility. Being Righteous is not nearly as important as being Right.

POPSPoll: Hamas on Top in West Bank! First time! "These developments managed to present Hamas as successful in breaking the siege and as a victim of Israeli attacks," commentary accompanying the poll said. Lack of progress in Abbas's peace negotiations with Israel also gave Hamas a boost, the poll indicated. The survey found that if new parliamentary elections were to take place, Hamas would receive 35% of the vote and Fatah 42%, compared to 46% for Fatah and 34% for Hamas in an opinion poll in January. The current survey polled 1,270 Palestinians in Arab East Jerusalem, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip. ...Haaretz

POPSIslamists leave Israel no choice From an Australian source. They say that it's almost like what Hamas wants. Well, yeah. All the Gazans have to do is stop shelling/firing into Israel. Just this one thing and the world community would have the leverage it desires to force Israel to make all the concessions in the world to the Palestinians. But it won't happen; so Israel has to respond and try to protect it's citizens. Will the Palestinian people ever rise up and say "no more" to Hamas? No, because they believe that the destruction of Israel is more important than peace in the region, security for their 'territory', safety for their children, prosperity for their region.

POPSGunman Kills 8 Israeli Students At Jerusalem Seminary
The Free Galil Brigades and Group of Imad Mughniyeh and Martyrs of Gaza'' claimed responsibility for the attack. The Soviet-made weapon has a longer range and is more lethal than the Qassam rockets primarily used by militants in Gaza. ``Israel will never allow terrorism to achieve its goals,'' Foreign Minister Tzipi Livni said in a statement after the Jerusalem attack. ``Israel is at the forefront of the struggle against terrorism and will continue to defend its citizens, who are exposed to this threat on a daily basis.'' Jerusalem Mayor Uri Lupolianski said it was ``a sad day'' and called on the government to complete the construction of a barrier to separate the city from the West Bank. Hamas has ruled Gaza since ousting troops loyal to Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas and ending a partnership government with him. Abbas said yesterday he intends to resume peace talks with Israel. Hamas refuses to recognize Israel and rejects negotiations with the Jewish stat

POPSUS Plotted To Overthrow Hamas After Election Victory According to the magazine, Rice played a main role in trying to persuade Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates to offer training and funding to the Fatah fighters. Israeli officials admitted in December 2006 that Egypt had sent weapons to the Fatah faction in Gaza. The US effort did not end with the establishment of a Palestinian national unity government. Vanity Fair describes the administration’s plan B, which called for adding 4,700 new Fatah troops with additional training in Jordan and Egypt. A state department memo put the cost for salaries, training and weapons at $1.27bn (£640m) over five years

POPSUSA Dirty Tricks against Elected Reps. Nothing new here for those who had any real interest in the so called Hamas coup against the corrupt Fatah. And why? The USA only deals with those corruptible like Fatah, unlike Hamas who deal with finality with any member that doesn't met standards.

POPSStarving GAZA Rats bit Hand that doesn't Feed them!
"Three Palestinian resistance groups have claimed responsibility for the Dimona bombing, including the Al-Aqsa Martyrs brigades, an off-shot of Fatah, led by President Mahmoud Abbas, the Abu Ali Mustafa brigades, the armed wing of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, and a new group called the national resistance brigades. In a joint statement, faxed to the press, the three groups named the suicide bombers as Mosa Arafat from Khan Younis, and Loay al-Aghwani from Gaza city. Al-Aqsa Martyrs brigades, Fatah's armed wing, held a press conference in Gaza, stating that today's attack is a part of Palestinian resistance operations which will continue "as long as the Israeli occupation continues attacks on the Palestinian people." Abu Alwalid, spokesperson of the Al-Aqsa brigades, speaking to reporters on Monday said, " we confirm that this operation has been already planned since December of last year, and it was about to be carried out on December 20th, yet it has bee

POPS Middle-East Anaylsis Daniel Pipes Report by Daniel Pipes January 17, 2008 Jerusalem Post George W. Bush's policies toward the Middle East and Islam will loom large when historians judge his presidency. On the occasion of his concluding his 8-day, 6-country trip to the Middle East and entering his final year in office, I offer some provisional assessments. At a time when George W. Bush arouses such intense vituperation among his critics, someone who wishes him well, like myself, criticizes reluctantly. But criticize one must; to pretend all is well, or to remain loyal to the person despite his record, does no one a favor. A frank recognition of shortcomings must precede their repair.

POPSAksa Martyrs Brigades calls for Fayad's assassination These people are crazy. Perhaps 'assassination' is a way-of-life in the region. Who will be next? Please, President Bush, do not go there, though your enemies "both foreign and domestic" would be happy for you to take the risk! And the US is suppose to try a broker a deal with all these elements in the Gaza and West Bank?

POPSPA renews policy of shaving beards Amazing. There is a lot we don't know about Islam. If it was good enough for Arafat, it must be good enough for Abbas. Interestingly, going to jail must be a badge of honor; along with killing innocent people....Arab, Israeli, anyone... and raising your children to do the same.

POPSAbbas: Now is the moment of truth for Palestinian statehood I certainly agree that 'now is the time' if they have any genuine wish for a *state* and peace. Now whether Jerusalem would be their capital...that's another matter. Arafat threw away this opportunity. And even now, I doubt that it will ever happen; but if it were to happen...well, how serious are they? I don't believe, for a minute, that Hamas or Hezbollah would allow Abbas to make any real progress. Arabs in Israel/Palestine....what do you really want? Choose.
