Pelosi Is Losing! Join House Republicans and Sign the Letter
merrie
by merrie  8-11-2008    1
An Open Letter to Speaker Pelosi We think it is unconscionable that Congress has gone on vacation before we have addressed the high gas prices that are crippling our economy and hurting millions of families. We are asking that you reconvene the House from your five-week vacation and schedule a vote on legislation to increase American energy production. Let us be clear, we are not asking for a guaranteed outcome, just the chance to vote. http://www.nrcc.org/actioncenter/default.asp?ID=317#sign

Communist Party Backs Obama For Prez
merrie
by merrie  8-7-2008    3
The struggle to defeat the ultra-right and turn our country on a positive path will not end with Obama’s election. But that step will shift the ground for successful struggles going forward. One thing is clear. None of the people’s struggles — from peace to universal health care to an economy that puts Main Street before Wall Street — will advance if McCain wins in November. Let’s keep our eyes on the prize. That’s right. The Communist Party Of The United States wants to elect Barack Hussein Obama as our President. Why do you think that is? And why has their endorsement been so studiously ignored by our watchdog media? Still, won’t it be pleasant finally to have a President that the same hard-line Communists who supported Joseph Stalin can support? This is the kind of “unity” Mr. Obama will bring us. h/t sweetness & light http://sweetness-light.com/

Republican Revolt Against The No-Solutions-Democrats
merrie
by merrie  8-4-2008    1
Republicans were back on the floor of the House this morning and will continue throughout the week to force Democrats to return to Washington, DC and get the job done for the American people of holding a vote on energy. Check back tomorrow for more updates on The Revolt. Americans can't afford the Democrat agenda of no energy, no drilling, no solutions.

Congressman Alcee Hastings - Hunters BEWARE !
Judge Love
by Judge Love  8-4-2008
Hastings stance on YOUR RIGHT TO BEAR ARMS, PROTECT YOUR FAMILY and GO HUNTING might be hidden in a recent quote, specifically: "We are captives, the majority here, of the NRA. To hell with the NRA !" : Rep. Alcee L. Hastings, D-Fla. Ironically Congressman Hastings is the same congressional idiot that supports a Convicted Violent Felons' (that's a bad criminal) Right to Vote after release from prison to once again prey upon WE THE PEOPLE. I'll keep my 40 caliber Glock right where it is Mr. Congressman !

Democrat House "Apologizes" for Slavery
pkronfield
by pkronfield  7-30-2008    2
This is but another stupid liberal attempt to pander to blacks for their vote this November. The trouble is, the United States Government had nothing to do with "forcing Africans into slavery". In fact it was Arab slave traders who did that. And it was the United States government who went to war to abolish slavery. This government doesn't owe negros an apology. It is the negros who owe gratitude to the United States for the bounty and opportunity afforded them. Another proof that liberals are unfit to run our magnificent country.

Senate Moves Closer To Energy Vote Deal
merrie
by merrie  7-28-2008
McConnell said he has not discussed with President Bush the possibility of calling on Congress to cut short its August recess to reopen the energy bill debate, “but if he does, I’ll be happy to be here.” Democrats last week failed to pass a bill to crack down on speculation in the oil futures market, after Republicans insisted that Reid allow a more open amendment process. The GOP is pushing for an amendment that would allow them to vote on lifting the congressional moratorium on offshore oil drilling. McConnell hedged when asked Monday if he could produce enough votes for a drilling amendment. Assuming all 49 Republican senators vote for such an amendment, McConnell would still need 11 more votes to reach the necessary threshold of 60.

Pelosi: The Power Of One
merrie
by merrie  7-20-2008
"In the House, the power rests in the speaker, the power of recognition, of setting the agenda. . . . Very different rules," Pelosi said. Acknowledging her ability to influence decision-making, Pelosi said in the CNN interview that she gets to operate differently than her Senate counterpart, Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada. Reid must reach out to Republicans to muster 60 votes — enough to stop a filibuster — to get anything done. It's an example of the vast power placed in the office of the speaker, who sets the agenda for the 435-member House. Members can force a vote if enough of them sign a petition, but that's a rarity because it requires rank-and-file Democrats to line up against their boss. In this case, Pelosi is going against a rising tide of public opinion. Faced with rapidly increasing gasoline prices, 73 percent of Americans now favor offshore drilling, according to a poll conducted by CNN/Opinion Research Corp.

Majority Oppose CA. Gay Marriage Ban
Wisco
by Wisco  7-18-2008
The report calls this a "slight majority" and, in the strictest sense, it is. But do the math -- if the antis pick up all the undecideds, they still lose. This doesn't strike me as the sort of issue people would be squishy on -- if you've made up your mind, I don't see it changing. The antis are going to have to convert some of the pros and that's a tough order. Still, November's a long way off. You never know.

thinkingblue
by thinkingblue  7-3-2008
If one more "R" gets on SCOTUS we can all say TOOTLES to civil liberties & HELLO to Fascism. A statement from an everyday Alarmist? No its serious! The court now in lockstep with the "R" ideology which protects the wealthy and gives a nose-thumb at those who need help. The kind of social order they wish to spread across our land, is not democracy. Not with, cruel punishment for those who can't pay their way out of a guilt accusation. Not with, melt down of habeas corpus. Not with, stripping a woman of her right to choose what's best for her body & circumstances. Not with, laws, claiming Voter Id's before one can vote. Not with, reducing punitive damages to large corp. who will become more reckless not having to face large losses to their beloved capital. Not with, dismantling gun-control laws putting all at risk of being murdered by the disgruntled, the disturbed who should never possess lethal weapons. Remember 1 or 2 more "R" justices and you can kiss your, you-know-what bye-bye:-(

Japan is finally feeling the heat on whaling
bs1999bs
by bs1999bs  6-29-2008
Notwithstanding that a hopelessly astray Kiwi (Glenn Inwood quoted here) sees fit to go against the views of most of his fellow Kiwis, Japan is becoming increasingly pressured to stop whaling. Their days of working scams and shams to continue whaling are coming to an end. As a fellow Kiwi I hope the Japanese offer Glenn Inwood sufficient inducement to leave New Zealand. He doesn't represent the views of most Kiwis - in fact he shames us!
