The Core Misconceptions In The "War On Terror"
thisnamecantbetaken
by thisnamecantbetaken  10-1-2008    1
"Terrorism is a particular tactic of political violence. Wars are conducted between states. Declaring a war on terror is like declaring war on serial murderers. War is what al-Qaeda wants. Such language elevates the terrorists to the level of warriors in a battle. The terrorists are criminals, not warriors, and should be treated accordingly. "

Corruption and Conscious in China
ouyangwulong
by ouyangwulong  9-15-2008
Although it at first seems appealing to have public officials take responsibility for the disasters that slip by one their watch, it may not be the best course of action. For instance, there was a baby food scandal in 2004, and the government reacted by holding people responsible - heads of companies and several public officials were executed. But now a similar problem is happening again. Why? Because by holding an individual responsible for what is a societal lapse, it allows everyone else to keep on doing business as usual without addressing the fundamental underlying problems. In the case of corruption or dereliction of duty, the communist party's punitive actions have not served as a deterrent, quite the opposite. Perhaps we should also consider this in our own context, for we all own a small part in the disasters we blame on our politicians.

by sahara  8-3-2008    4
Argentina's Economic Collapse Documentary on the events that led to the economic collapse of Argentina in 2001 which wiped out the middle class and raised the level of poverty to 57.5%. Central to the collapse was the implementation of neo-liberal policies which enabled the swindle of billions of dollars by foreign banks and corporations. Many of Argentina's assets and resources were shamefully plundered. Its financial system was even used for money laundering by Citibank, Credit Suisse, and JP Morgan. The net result was massive wealth transfers and the impoverishment of society which culminated in many deaths due to oppression and malnutrition.

CNN Headlines "Climate Change Killing Children"
pkronfield
by pkronfield  7-7-2008    5
The loony left is at it again. Blaming global warming on what is essentially mismanagement of resources and graft. Anytime you don't feed a kid, it will of course be malnourished. The people of Timor got along just fine until Western Civilization entered and caused them to divert from their successful hunting/gathering/farming way of life. The real tragedy here isn't the boogy man of "global warming". It's the spectre of Global Liberalization that is killing kids.

Child Abuse at its Worse
jamesgrimes
by jamesgrimes  6-20-2008
These two women need life in prison for the way they abused that poor boy. Cigarette burns all over his body (even his genitals), burning his hand on a stove, and malnutrition. That poor boy! Don't even get me started on the number of times the state of California, and the city of LA had to get this boy away from these two. Even has grandmother didn't do anything.

Biofuel Craze Could Starve Millions
Marcariel
by Marcariel  5-8-2008
Joachim von Braun, director general of the U.S.-based International Food Policy Research Institute supports a moratorium on grain- and oilseed-based biofuels but not for sugar-cane-based fuels. Sugar-cane is the source of many sweeteners used in breakfast cereals and soft drinks. We should start seeing those prices begin to shoot up. I looks like we are just going to have to find another alternative to the biofuels sources.

Patients Left To Starve On NHS Wards::Scandalous
merrie
by merrie  1-6-2008    2
He said: "Malnourished patients are more prone to infections, have more complications after surgery, and have higher mortality rates - yet the Government allows more than 130,000 patients to enter hospital in the state. "If patients are at risk of malnutrition, then they should be offered extra support before going into hospital, and they should be cared for better whilst they are in hospital. "It is a scandal that in 21st-century Britain, we allow vulnerable patients to be let out of hospital in a malnourished state, and it is even worse that we allow thousands of patients to get more poorly while they are in hospital. It is estimated that the poor quality of hospital food is putting patients off to the extent that 13 million meals are thrown away each year. Ivan Lewis admitted patients were being starved on wards, with some elderly people given little a scoop of mashed potato for lunch.
