POPSKatie Couric’s Curveballs and Softballs Katie Couric won a journalism award recently, which blew me away until I realized who gave the award. The Norman Lear Center at USC, a left-wing funded org rooted deeply in Hollywood’s liberal psyche. She was ‘awarded’ for her hard-hitting questions to Alaska governor Sarah Palin during last years presidential election campaign. But where was she democratic VP candidate Joe Biden flubbed on his knowledge of US history? Granted this award does not carry the recognition and prestige of a Pulitzer, Chancellor Award or a DuPont Award, but to give such a lack luster, talking head and television faceplate like Katie Couric an ego boost by telling her she’s doing an award winning job of news reporting is simply setting her up for a fall. I mean seriously, Katie Couric won an award for reporting excellence?! The standards for journalism have truly fallen to new depths.

POPSPalinese Spoken Here If you're a conservative and you're selected for a job over more qualified candidates you're a 'game changer'. I don't think McCain expected his game to change in this manner.

POPSMcCain's Last Days Discover a Killer Attack
IMO - 5 Days ago Democratic VP candidate Joe Biden put his foot in his mouth (again). In this clip here he he talks about Obama having to face an international crisis and being tested. Since then, Biden's own words have been deadly used against himself and Obama. Two days later, McCain interview focused on this. at: http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/us_elections/article5000041.ece Three days later this ad appeared: http://voices.washingtonpost.com/the-trail/2008/10/23/biden_gaffe_featured_in_new_co.html Four Days later, this ad: http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2008/08/23/mccain-rolls-out-new-ad-with-bidens-words/ Today: On this theme, not online yet, but ad on TV...and it's deadly; it's poison to Obama . It's scary. But it might be too late. All the stupid ungrounded smears about Ayers and voter fraud and poor Joe the plumber had no truth and missed the target. If McCain had focused on this question for the last 3 weeks, IMO, he c

POPSPalin looms as party millstone The wrong choice for the candidacy won't go away. You can't "dumb down" a position as important as VP. It still has me stuffed that America can't come up with leaders.

POPSPalin Brings Feminism to Republicans and Christians In case it was unclear, Sarah Palin is a "card-carrying feminist", excluding only abortion. Yet religious and Christian conservatives still praise her and claim the republican party is their party, although there is some growing dissent. No longer can Rush Limbaugh talk of the radical "Femi-nazis" then without including republican VP candidate Palin in that monologue, can he? . For a unique critique on feminism see this article which says in part: most contemporary feminism...is what Sommers has called "gender feminism," which is essentially based on a form of Marxist theory that substitutes "gender" for Marx's category of "class," or simply adds the two together, usually with "race" thrown in. This sort of "race, class, and gender" theory is typically a dangerous form of political moralism, with the same totalitarian characteristics as other versions of Marxism have proven to display.

POPSMcCain says: "I screwed up." A rare moment of honesty The Letterman comment about McCain "palling around," with convicted conspirator Gordon Liddy (mentioned at the end of this clip) was astounding. McCain was stunned. They had to call quickly for a commercial break. ___ If we ever do actually get attacked by nukes from Russia or another 9/11, McCains going to need a snort of coke or something to get him going.

POPSMcCain's Now Famous: "Joe the Plumber."
The story of 'Joe the Plumber," - McCain's 'Common Man," has sprung many leaks. 1. His name is not Joe. He's Samuel Jacob Wurzelbacher. 2. He's not a licensed plumber. (It would be illegal for him to work as a plumber). 3. He said he didn't want to pay higher taxes when he buys his bosses business, which is worth $265,000.00 -- although his bosses' business is not for sale and taxes are not on net worth, but income. 4. Joe makes $40,000.00 a year and would save money under Obama's tax plan. 5. Joe owes $1,200 in back taxes 6. Joe owes $1,200 in medical bills and Obama's health plan would also have helped him out, 7. Joe made a slightly racial remark, comparing Obama's talk to like watching Sammy Davis Jr. doing a tap dance. 8. Samuel Jacob Wurzelbacher has now done more interviews that VP candidate Sarah Palin. 9. The McCain campaign wants him to join them at their rallies. 10. Real plumbers (their Union) have expressed displeasure at his claims and views.

POPSWelcome to Gilead, Governor Palin More: Women who find themselves drawn to Palin because they think she epitomizes the classic "woman who has it all" might want to take a closer look. Sarah Palin was picked for the ticket solely because of - not despite - the fact that she is female. By keeping her sequestered from the media, McCain has confirmed he does not have faith in an unscripted Palin's ability to represent the campaign to the world. By going along with it, Palin is telling us that she's perfectly fine with being controlled by her male superiors. And by portraying herself as the candidate of the empowered woman (while simultaneously promoting policy that is openly hostile to the interests of working and middle-class American women), she reveals the sad truth about how little progress we've actually made.

POPSMedia's Double Standard I've noticed that the mainstream media still handles McCain with kid gloves. I wonder why that is...? OK, he was a POW, captured by an "enemy" of our government. But why should that give him a one-upmanship over Obama... as far as fair reporting is concerned? Maybe corporate media has more to gain under republican rule or maybe it's just that they fear a McCain attack because they've taken note of how McMean and his Cold-Hearted-VP pick's, mean-spirited, hateful innuendoes launched against Obama have stirred the "Republican base of loathing", to get "physical" with any contrived foe. I believe it's both but they've got the case of the willies when it comes to the ornery right-wing mentality, knowing they might band together and threaten not to buy the goods their sponsors hawk!

POPSAlaska Ethics probe says Pain abused her power McCain and Palin are trying to bullshit people, saying that this is a partisan attack, but the public record shows their lie. The probe was started before there was even a hint of a rumour that McCain was going to tap Palin as his VP pick. The committee was bipartisan . That means there was no partisan agenda involved in it. McCain/Palin; they keep lying, and lying, and lying, and lying, and lying... <drum beat in the background>

POPSPalin~Casting Stones from Her Glass House The founder of the Alaska Independence Party -- a group that has been courted over the years by Sarah Palin, and one her husband was a member of for roughly seven years -- once professed his "hatred for the American government" and cursed the American flag as a "damn flag." The AIP founder, Joe Vogler, made the comments in 1991, in an interview that's now housed at the Oral History Program in the Rasmuson Library at the University of Alaska, Fairbanks. There is a link to listen to it here: http://tpmelectioncentral.talkingpointsmemo.com/2008/09/aip_founder_professed_hatred_f.php Sarah Stalin has succeeded in one thing, and that is making McCain look like the intelligent member of their team! Not easy, but she did it!

POPSPolitical Satire Stronger Than Candidates This is a good article about extra-wonderful satire and Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin (the first quote clipped here)...and a couple of nice slashes at Democratic VP candidate Joe Biden. These comedy sketches are becoming more well-known than the candidates themselves. Many folks now, when they hear Palin speak, wonder ahead to how SNL will parody it. Palin, certainly, gives the comics a lot of material to work with. A link to a video of the skits is at the bottom of this article. With the elections just a bit more than three weeks from now, we have to "press on," -- these Republicans are like vampires and to kill them you really have to drive a stake through their heart: They're not dead till they're dead. At least with our talented comics we not only can 'press on,' but laugh-on as well.

POPSThe VP Debate
"When it came to domestic issues, Ms. Palin mainly relied on enthusiasm and humor, talking about hockey moms, soccer moms and Joe Sixpack almost as often as she used the word “maverick” to describe Mr. McCain or herself. But she offered virtually no detail — beyond the Republican mantra of tax cuts — for how she and Mr. McCain would address the financial crisis or help Americans avoid foreclosure or what programs they would cut because of the country’s disastrous fiscal problems. Ms. Palin’s primary tactic was simply to repeat the same thing over and over: John McCain is a maverick. So is she. To stay on that course, she had to indulge in some wildly circular logic: America does not want another Washington insider. They want Mr. McCain (who has been in Congress for nearly 26 years). Ms. Palin condemned Wall Street greed and said she and Mr. McCain would “demand” strict oversight. In virtually the next breath, she said government should “get out of the way” of American business."

POPSConservative Columnist: Palin Should Drop Out
Her gender is blinding many to her incompetence. (Sexism blinds). The last comment clipped above is dead on the mark, and it takes a female conservative columnist to finally say "the Emperor has no clothes". Palin is absolutely "out of her league" and unfit for office. There is a growing list of conservatives (David Brooks, George Will, and David Frum) saying the same thing , and nothing could be more dangerous than to have an immature, teen sounding, novice and unpredictable VP candidate that could very well become President. The other thing is that the swell of columnists are finally taking the "inexperience" line because there is likely truth to the sourced story about her affair and the Trooper-gate allegation is being pursued by republicans in Alaska, both of which could torpedo the entire ticket if they break before Nov. 4th. Palin brings alot of baggage with her, and the McCain campaign has been distancing her from reporters and media for a reason.

POPSEight reasons for voting against Unfit McCain: 8. Finally, Senator McCain's first important decision as a presidential candidate showed bad judgment on his part by selecting unqualified Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as a "one heartbeat away" commander-in-chief. To learn why she is not suited for the vice presidency, click on the McCain VP pick button above. Also presented on the VP page is a testimonial letter by Anne Kilkenny of Wasilla, Alaska, Palin's mayorial town, who has known her since 1992. After reading Kilkenny's devastating letter, you will be convinced that Palin should never get near Washington, D.C., in any capacity.

POPSWar Mom Takes Hard Line: Warns U.S. Foes When asked whether the United States should be able to invade ally Pakistan in pursuit of terrorists along the Afghanistan border, Palin said, "I believe that America has to exercise all options in order to stop the terrorists who are hellbent on destroying America and our allies." He son Track, 19, joined the Army last summer and is part of the 1st Stryker Brigade Combat Team, 25th Infantry Division based at Fort Wainwright near Fairbanks. As governor, Palin spoke at a ceremony there yesterday marking the brigade's 12-month deployment to Iraq beginning next week. Palin spoke at a ceremony there yesterday marking the brigade's 12-month deployment to Iraq beginning next week. Yesterday's ceremony coincided with the seventh anniversary of 9/11. Calling the Iraq mission a "just and vital cause" and predicting victory, Palin said, "America can never go back to that false sense of security that came before Sept. 11, 2001."

POPSFerraro, Quayle, Palin Roll Call story points out that the controversy around two VP picks, Dan Quayle in 1988 and Geraldine Ferraro in 1984, had little electoral impact those years. As in the stock market, though, past political performance is no guarantee of future results.

POPSMcCain Team: Voters Don't Care if Palin Knows the Issues There you go. Sarah Palin isn't a candidate, she's a propaganda delivery system. If they feel they need to isolate her from the press, what the hell are they going to do about the VP debate? Sarah Palin is looking more and more like a Dan Quayle-style empty suit lightweight every day.

POPSWrong Woman; Wrong Message Her down-home, divisive and deceptive speech did nothing to cosmeticize a Republican convention that has more than twice as many male delegates as female, a presidential candidate who is owned and operated by the right wing and a platform that opposes pretty much everything Clinton's candidacy stood for -- and that Barack Obama's still does. I get no pleasure from imagining her in the spotlight on national and foreign policy issues about which she has zero background, with one month to learn to compete with Sen. Joe Biden's 37 years' experience. When asked last month about the vice presidency, she said, "I still can't answer that question until someone answers for me: What is it exactly that the VP does every day?" When asked about Iraq, she said, "I haven't really focused much on the war in Iraq."

POPSWhy the Press Claims, Falsely, That Sarah Palin Wasn’t Vetted
Because They Got Surprised By The VP Pick I was impressed by the story of someone who seemed to be a political success, yet comes from a slice of middle America, as opposed to the moneyed elite from which most politicians spring. (I still think this aspect of her story is going to prove to be enormously powerful, in a way few expect. Americans will relate to Sarah Palin.) I was excited by the idea of someone who could bring life to a tired Republican ticket. My friend hadn’t heard of Palin. But readers of Beldar had. And readers of my site had. So when I was on vacation, woke up in Curry Village at Yosemite, fired up the Treo, and saw that McCain had picked Palin, I was thrilled. But at the same time, most of the press was saying: “Huh? Who dat?” To their detriment, they don’t read Beldar. So while you and I and Beldar were immediately rejoicing, the press corps — which considers itself the ultimate insiders — felt left out in the cold. And now they’re pissed off.

POPSSarah Palin Takes on The Washington Establishment But here's a little news flash for all those reporters and commentators: I'm not going to Washington to seek their good opinion -- I'm going to Washington to serve the people of this country." On energy policies: "Our opponents say, again and again, that drilling will not solve all of America's energy problems -- as if we all didn't know that already. But the fact that drilling won't solve every problem is no excuse to do nothing at all. Starting in January, in a McCain-Palin administration, we're going to lay more pipelines ... build more nuclear plants ... create jobs with clean coal ... and move forward on solar, wind, geothermal, and other alternative sources. We need American energy resources, brought to you by American ingenuity, and produced by American workers."

POPSOff Limits? I Think Not Ordinarily a situiation such as the pregnancy of Sarah Palin's daughter would be off-limits but the Republican party has been the first to put it front and center as a political tool. The Holier than Anyone Right has used this to showcase how "special" their darling VP hopeful really is and the point has driven home at the RNC yesterday. That and the supposed non-political issue of McCain's POW status. Have the voters become so inured to the Republican machine that they are incapable of seeing through their deceptions and lies?
