POPSComputer illiteracy rife among British civil servants Over the last few months British news media have been reporting that government agencies have been losing computer data regularly. The mind boggles at such a level of computer illiteracy -- have the civil servants in so many different government departments and agencies not learned of the need to make backups of important data?

POPSDeath In The Family "Yet the proposed law in Washington wouldn’t go far enough for Gardner. It wouldn’t include him. Parkinson’s isn’t terminal. The disease can leave the body trembling, contorted, rigid; it can rob the memory and muffle the voice; it can leave a person still and silent; but it doesn’t offer an end to its torture; it doesn’t kill. Gardner wants a law that would permit lethal prescriptions for people whose suffering is unbearable, a standard that can seem no standard at all; a standard that prevails in the Netherlands, the Western nation that has been boldest about legalizing aid in dying; a standard that elevates subjective experience over objective appraisal and that could engage the government and the medical profession in the administration of widespread suicide. What is unbearable? What level of acute or chronic physical pain would qualify? What degree of disability? Would physicians be writing suicide prescriptions for the depressed?"

POPSStress from Bullies Kills Braincells The saying: "Sticks and stones may break my bones, but names will never hurt me" may have to be re-written. I believe bullying is a most dangerous, yet underestimated form of psychological terror, that can have far reaching consequences for the victim, often for the rest of their lives. Now with the VT shootings and all, I can't help but think about past similar events, where it often was reported, that the killers (or those who had "snapped" in some way), had often been victims of school bullying. If we in any way, are to hope that we can avoid such future massacres, I think we should look to bullying as a possible factor too and adopt a zero tolerance policy in all schools, work places and institutions. If nothing else, it sure can't hurt!

POPSDistraction takes away the pain of shot for kids My daughter got the flu shot last week, but she didn't really care.. all she cared about was the 'dora the explorer' bandaid that she'd be getting post shot. I also always bring stickers and little figurine toys into the doctors office for her-- they come along way..... I think this article is spot on.

POPSiDisk Diamond, even in your ear Man, I have enough trouble keeping track of my normal sized USB sticks. I don't think I'd own one of these for a long time before it would vanish.
