HP and Hynix predict death of Flash
hotdoge3
by hotdoge3  9-1-2010
What is the advantage of memristors? Laboratory trials conducted at HP Labs have shown that memristor ReRAM circuits require less energy to operate, are faster, and have higher endurance than Flash, and these advantages are anticipated to increase into the future. “Memristor memory chips promise to run at least ten times faster and use ten times less power than an equivalent Flash memory chip,”

HP’s memory of the future
HansWobbe
by HansWobbe  4-8-2010
This, to me, is a really exciting development. But then, I've always found its a real pleasure to monitor the rates of Technological changes and to speculate about their positive potential. I find it interesting that when I speculate about Economic changes, I generally worry about their negative potential. This also seems to be true of the Political and Social trends that I follow. Perhaps the difference lies in my feeling that I can actually make a positive contribution in the technical arena, as opposed to just being a victim in the others.

A Computer that Never Forgets
Kauaiguy
by Kauaiguy  5-1-2008
Leon Chua, a distinguished faculty member in the Electrical Engineering and Computer Sciences Department of the University of California at Berkeley, initially theorized about and named the element in an academic paper published 37 years ago. Chua argued that the memristor was the fourth fundamental circuit element, along with the resistor, capacitor and inductor, and that it had properties that could not be duplicated by any combination of the other three elements.

Computer memory gives booting up the boot
pokkets

If you turn the computer off, the programs, files and applications stop at the same time, as they are. They don't have to be loaded every time the computer starts. Looks like all of the electronics textbooks will have to be rewritten. This new circuit element seems almost the electronic equivalent to finding another color. It's properties will mean it will probably play a big part in the design of circuits that will give the tech revolution another twist.
