POPSReflections on the ACORN Story: By Michael Barone Senior Political Analyst 9.18 I don’t think supporting ACORN is going to be a strong positive issue for Larsen in Skagit and Whatcom Counties. But back to ACORN. What stuns me is that, for all my knowledge of ACORN employees’ illegal behavior, it never would have occurred to me that so many of them would blithely collaborate in encouraging prostitution"and child prostitution at that! One ACORN defender said, in effect, well, that’s what you get when you hire low-income people; but I refuse to believe that that’s standard operating procedure even in the most disadvantaged of demographics. What is it about the culture of ACORN that makes collaboration in prostitution standard operating procedure? No wonder that 67% of voters have an unfavorable view of ACORN, according to pollster Scott Rasmussen. One wonders about the 15% who have positive views"an even lower percentage than the 17% of House members who voted against defunding ACORN.

POPSGOP: What's REALLY important is what the other party calls themselves! Let's see now... we're at war in Iraq and Afghanistan, we're in what looks to be a worse economic implosion than the Great Depression, people are losing jobs and getting foreclosed on right and left, many people have no health insurance, and the ones who do often find it makes no difference, we're seeing climatological forces and disasters getting worse and worse... and the Republicans think that what's important is what the other party is named? More: A Rasmussen poll from earlier this month shows that capitalism only beats socialism 53 percent to 20, and among adults under 30, the split narrows to 37 to 33. Speaking as a member of the first generation of Americans to be told while growing up "your generation WILL do worse than your parents did – just accept it"... yeah, capitalism doesn't seem like such a rousing success.

POPSThe More People Know... the More they Oppose the Stimulus from AP news: Notably, support for the proposal is now much lower than it was in January among those who have heard a lot about the economic stimulus. By 49% to 41%, those who have heard a lot about the proposal now see it as a good idea; in January, those who had heard a lot favored it by more than two-to-one. Furthermore, a poll from Rasmussen reports that 62% of voters want more tax cuts and less government spending in the plan. This must be music to the ears of Republicans, who have been on a media blitz of their own, arguing for the same. Newly elected chairman of the Republican National Committee Michael Steele wasted no time in explaining why he thinks his party should vote no.

POPSBob San Sushi in Chicago - Negative Review Last night I had an unfortunate run in with the manager at Bob San. First, let me preface this story by saying my wife and I have dined there multiple times, and enjoy sushi probably once a week. However, we will not be going back.

POPSEpo Maker Still Proud Sponsor Of Cycling Given how the Tour de France is imploding amid yet more doping allegations, Amgen's sponsorship of the Tour of California feels a tad awkward. Meanwhile, the PR department over at the NBA must be heaving a sigh of relief that the league decided to hold its annual All-Star Game in Las Vegas BEFORE its recent referee-gambling scandal. - Louis Hau
