To a certain extent we have to accept our starting point on the self-control sliding scale and do the best we can with it. 3. How to improve your self-control: Global processing. This means trying to focus on the wood rather than the trees. Abstract reasoning. This means trying to avoid considering the specific details of the situation at hand in favour of thinking about how actions fit into an overall framework - being philosophical. High-level categorisation. This means thinking about high-level concepts rather than specific instances. Any long-term project, whether in business, academia or elsewhere can easily get bogged down by focusing too much on the minutiae of everyday processes and forgetting the ultimate goal.

POPSKidnappings, Riots Mar Tourism Efforts in Haiti When I wrote about the world's most dangerous destination in January (see here: http://www.forbes.com/2008/01/16/travel-world-dangerous-forbeslife-cx_rr_0117travel.html) I received a lot of criticism from Haitians who felt the news about their country was always bad. This story looks at efforts to turn Haiti into a tourist destination, including expanded cruise service and improved access to historic sites. Political instability has since interrupted those efforts, but organizers are hopeful that the situation will get better. The key thing here is that Haiti is missing out on a billion dollar industry as a result. How can they turn things around?

POPSAn Album of Indian Gods The picture of the Goddess Kali was the inspiration for the famous Rolling Stones logo, designed by John Pasche in 1971. It was shown to the artist by Mick Jagger because he was looking for something similar. Of course the result was pretty different, but also wonderful. Thanks again to knslyr , for introducing this awesome blog to us months ago. Since then, it has become one of my favourites.
