POPSLIHOP: Let It Happen On Purpose
(cont.)In effect, taking the hit on 9-11-2001 -- or more accurately, having several thousand innocent people take the hit -- would then allow a fanatical response, which would be politically acceptable to the American public. Thus the initiation of what might best be described as Bush Wars -- a variation of a theme of Oil Wars. An extremely credible and interesting article in this regard is by a member of the British Parliament, entitled The War on Terrorism is Bogus. This article has the advantage of basing its argument on what has been learned over the last two years -- but almost never publicized in the mainstream Media. In essence, it explains that the evidence is extremely convincing that the high level neo-conservatives in the US government were aware of the impending strike and took great pains to ensure that it was successfully accomplished. POPSThe Physiology And Psychology Of Voting The researchers used a multiple regression analysis to compare the effects of change in skin conductance levels in response to threatening images, gender, age, education, and income on support for socially “protective” policies such as the ones listed above. The only two statistically significant effects were those of education (less education translated into more support for conservative policies) and skin conductance. That in itself means that -- within the confines of this study -- physiology trumps gender, age and income, traditionally considered highly relevant causal factors in politics by social scientists. Moreover, the regression coefficient associated with skin conductance was more than 56 times that of education! !!!

POPSAnother Variety of Insanity What defines "respectable" religion from a cult. I suspect it's either number of followers or going against the favorite wedge issue of the day. In reality, the differences are very small and often hinge on the number of angels on a pin. From the article: "At their Saugus, Calif., church in the 1970s, the Alamos preached that anyone who quit the cult would be killed, driven mad, or changed into a homosexual."

POPSDo Our Political Beliefs Have a Biological Basis? It's a golden rule of democracy that people are free thinkers. There's just one problem: we aren't wired that way—not, at least, according to a new study that probes past the rational mind in search of a biological basis for our political beliefs. The results seem to suggest that our ideas about the world are shaped by deep, involuntary reactions to the things we see.

POPSMore Religious Right Insanity It doesn't take much effort to uncover the truly bizarre on the Religious Right. Now they're resorting to Mind Control Fatwas to murder McCain so their Joan of Arc Palin can take up the Christian sword of prophesy to finally end the ungodly behavior of the People Who Believe Differently Than I group. Remember, these are the same folks the Republicans are courting and proudly proclaim as their "base". Whatever!

POPSThink Yourself Healthy by Appreciating the Exercise You Already Do To illustrate with just one of the outcomes they measured, the average weight of those in the intervention group reduced from 145.5 lbs to 143.72 lbs. Over the same period the control group showed no significant change. For those of you working metric-style that's 66.14 kg down to 65.33 kg. That's like dropping a bag of sugar. In four weeks. With no additional exercise.
