POPSMosaics, mosaics, mosaics... I've got a bit of a thing about mosaics and have done a few clips on the subject before. This site is just packed with amazing stuff and is a must see. I've clipped a few of the more unusual items (catflaps, would you believe?) But the site is well worth a visit.

POPS"Hamas" Not as bad as made out to be ! Base on reports I've seen on "LinkTV/MOSAIC" it seems to me it's about time we give "HAMAS" it's due after all they are in charge, then maybe there can be some kind of peace for a change.

POPSThe Code of Hammurabi Hammurabi (ruled ca. 1796 BC – 1750 BC) believed that he was chosen by the gods to deliver the law to his people. The Code of Hammurabi was one of several sets of laws in the Ancient Near East. Most of these codes come from similar cultures and racial groups in a relatively small geographical area, and they have passages which resemble each other. The earlier Code of Ur-Nammu (21st century BC), the Hittite laws (ca. 1300 BC), and Mosaic Law (traditionally ca. 1400 BC under Moses), all contain statutes that bear at least passing resemblance to those in the Code of Hammurabi and other codices from the same geographic area. The complete text of Hammurabi's Code of Laws. http://eawc.evansville.edu/anthology/hammurabi.htm. Quite shocking. The photographs were taken at the Louvre Museum in Paris. Invictus has a clip on Hammurabi: http://clipmarks.com/clipmark/92611450-2366-40A4-8825-C9287250A843/

POPSBackyard biodiversity: Make Space for Nature The 2004 Make Space for Nature campaign in Sheffield England inspired people across the nation to enhance their gardens with wildlife-friendly measures. Almost 100,000 pledges were made during the campaign to put out nest boxes, dig ponds, plant trees, and we can only assume this was the tip of the iceberg. Many viewers were already doing all these things. Many more might not have pledged, but might have thought twice before mowing their lawns or going out to annihilate their local slug populations after watching the series.

POPSLeaf veins crack under stress I think they are suggesting that rather than growing out from the stem, the cracks that form during growth are reinforced by the channeling of the hormone auxin from the leaf to the stem.

POPSMOSAIC OF SOLDIERS KILLED 9from Grace) This is a mosaic composed entirely of pictures of the 4000 American dead in Iraq. If you used photographs of the Iraqi civilian dead, you would probably have a full-length portrait of these two bastards.

POPSHouse of Augustus in Rome opens to the public Experts say the frescoes are among the most splendid surviving examples of Roman wall paintings, on a par with those found in the towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum. Archaeologists believe they may have been painted by an Egyptian. In the large entrance hall, graffiti on one wall is believed to have been left by the builders, who seem to have sketched out geometric designs, possibly for mosaic floors, and left their names. In November last year archaeologists located a grotto deep beneath Augustus's imperial palace that may have been the shrine where ancient Romans worshipped Romulus, the founder of the city according to legend. Octavian, the great-nephew and adopted son of Julius Caesar, took the name Augustus on becoming sole ruler in 27BC after the civil wars that followed Caesar's assassination. His rise ended the Roman Republic and marked the beginning of the Roman Empire. He died in AD14.

POPSSex Segregation: 'Get behind, Woman' "Heavy barrages of contempt, humiliation, and threats were directed at me and accompanied me as I left the bus. I returned home and decided to write about it. I used a little humor, meant to cover great fear. Physical fear and genuine dread in the face of the Jewish mosaic, which I so strongly believe in, and which is crumbling before my eyes.." ...YNetNews
