POPSshort story: The Parable of the Shower, by Leah Bobet
More: The great and terrible laughter of the angel of the one true God makes thy knees tremble, but thou refusest to fall down upon them. For one thing, the shower in which thou showerest is slippery, and the LORD knows it is simple enough to break an ankle or a hip or an arm in the shower without the intervention of an angel of the LORD. Missus Van Metre down the hall suffered this very affliction five months past, and thou hadst to fetch and carry for her from the apartment to the hospital, bear pajamas and the daily mail, as thou art the most young and hale person upon the sixteenth floor and the cry would have been great against you if thou hadst not.… Thou sayest unto the angel: I am in the shower. The angel saith: I care not. Thou sayest: I am naked. The angel saith: Nakedness is nothing before a servant of the LORD. Well it is something to man, thou repliest, and place thy loofah before thy shame. Much more – click through for the full story.

POPSCheney's Lies: Let me Count the Ways
— Cheney said that President Barack Obama's decision to release the four top-secret Bush administration memos on the interrogation techniques was "flatly contrary" to U.S. national security, and would help al Qaida train terrorists in how to resist U.S. interrogations. However, Blair, who oversees all 16 U.S. intelligence agencies, said in his statement that he recommended the release of the memos, "strongly supported" Obama's decision to prohibit using the controversial methods and that "we do not need these techniques to keep America safe." — Cheney said that the Bush administration "moved decisively against the terrorists in their hideouts and their sanctuaries, and committed to using every asset to take down their networks." The former vice president didn't point out that Osama bin Laden and his chief lieutenant, Ayman al Zawahri , remain at large nearly eight years after 9-11 and that the Bush administration began diverting U.S. forces, intelligence assets, time and mone

POPSmontpeliernakedbikeride. The World Naked Bike Ride is at once an oil-consumption protest and a body-positive event. Bicycle and cyclist awareness in general are also emphasized. In the most basic terms, the WNBR is a mass bike-riding event in which participants are mostly nude. Nakedness serves to draw attention to the cause and to celebrate the human form. It has taken place annually in cities all over the world since 2004. The Montpelier Naked Bike Ride has been run in 2007, 2008, & 2009 will be our third year.

POPSJenna Jameson To Go Nude For PETA Though we've all been familiar in seeing Jenna Jameson in various state of nakedness, this one is by far for a good cause and that is for the anti-animal cruelty campaign of the People's Ethical Treatment of Animals.

POPSBush -- Hypocritical Defender of the Constitution The entire article is worth reading. This is a typical neo-republican message where "judges that legislate from the bench" really is against judges who uphold the Constitution versus anti-Constitutional legislation or Executive usurpation of powers. Orwell would call this "newspeak". Parry calls it, justly, "cognitive dissonance", but it apparently applies as well to too many other Americans also in a stupor and blind denial of the facts.

POPSThe belly of the beast. . . I have spent a lot of my life burying the dead. I have seen the horrific wounds on what had been vital youngsters from Nam to Iraq. My point here is that there is this surreal-if that's the term- vision of war in the minds of those who rightly despair at the daily reports from far away and get on with ordinary life. We are numbed by the numbers and the sanitized and somber images of funeral honors. What more can we do? Unpleasant as this film is, it shows what I -and my father before me -have seen . How many of those who shake the saber have seen these statistics of war? It might be useful for them to look, to touch, to smell the reality. This film comes close.

POPSUS Psychologists Scrap Interrogation Ban The fact that an issue like this is even on the table is very, very sad. What happened to common sense, decency? And what kind of men are we creating? If you really take a good look at America's history.... she doesn't have lot to be proud of. The right words are there but we do not practice what we say we believe.

POPSThe Dirty Letters of James Joyce
"Frank as these letters are, their psychology can easily be misunderstood. They were intended to accomplish sexual gratification in him and inspire the same in her, and at moments they fasten intently on peculiarities of sexual behaviour, some of which might be technically called perverse...before quartering Joyce into these categories and consigning him to their tyranny we must remember that he was capable, in his work, of ridiculing them all as Circean beguilements, of turning them into vaudeville routines. Then too, the letters rebuke such obvious labels by an ulterior purpose; besides the immediate physical goal, Joyce wishes to anatomise and reconstitute and crystallize the emotion of love. He goes further still; like Richard Rowan in Exiles, he wishes to possess his wife's soul, and have her possess his, in utter nakedness. To know someone else beyond love and hate, beyond vanity and remorse, beyond human possibility almost, is his extravagant desire. "
