Republicans Need to Dump the Neoconservatives
blueridge
by blueridge  11-3-2009    1
The republicans need a "tea party" within their own camp! The Bush and present GOP "conservatives" are pushing big government Statism as much as Democrats, with only a different slant. Wars for democracy are a key element of both parties now. There is an insidious philosophy underlying this acceptance of the "natural" growth of statism. Neoconservative columnist David Brooks wrote ... we need "a vigorous One Nation Conservatism ... by making the nation great, individuals are able to join their narrow concerns to a larger national project." Actually, it was originally the Democrats that used to believe in curtailing the powers of the Federal government. (This was after the Civil War where they were called Dixie-crats). Real men don't read D.C. pundits

by ratilfar  10-31-2009
Even worse than Krauthammer's column today, though, was David Brooks in the New York Times. Partly it's because Brooks likes to pretend to be open-minded and reasonable, while spouting neocon talking points, and occasionally liberals get pulled in by him. But today was trademark lazy ideological Brooks. As Glenn Greenwald notes, unbelievably he bragged about "doing what journalists are supposed to do" -- which he defined as talking to a handful of anonymous pro-war sources, who uniformly criticized Obama's inaction to date on McCrystal's troop request. That's some brave shit. Not quite David Rohde brave, but hey, he made the calls! If it was unanimous, that means he didn't call retired Marine Matthew Hoh, who resigned from a civilian post in Afghanistan this week because he said we can't win, and our presense is only fueling the insurgency. Hoh told the Washington Post's Karen de Young he's "not some peacenik, pot-smoking hippie who wants everyone to be in love" and that he believes

Gaffney Tells Reagan "Your Father Would Be Ashamed Of You" (VIDEO)
ratilfar
by ratilfar  10-23-2009    1
In June, Gaffney wrote a column insisting that President Obama might really be a Muslim. In March, Gaffney argued that "evidence" exists connecting Saddam Hussein to 9/11, the 1993 attack on the World Trade Center, and the Oklahoma City bombing. Last September, Gaffney argued that Sarah Palin has learned foreign policy through "osmosis," by living in Alaska. He's argued that U.S. forces really did find weapons of mass destruction in Iraq, but the media covered it up. He's used made-up quotes and recommended "hanging" Democratic officials critical of the Bush administration's Iraq policy. He even believes there's "evidence" to support the "Birthers," and once recommended a military strike on Al Jazeera headquarters. ------ In other words a man with no shame invokes the specter of another man dead father to attack him. Classy!

Dick Cheney Takes It To Obama on National Security
merrie
by merrie  10-22-2009    1
It appears that Obama’s dissenters are piling on his back. As a result, the foreign policy hawks and neocons are making a successful comeback. We all witnessed how capable and successful Cheney was when he took his case to the airwaves, TV shows, and editorials in defending the Bush administration’s legacy. It is beyond dispute that Cheney can make a convincing case and draw a sharp contrast between the Obama administration on what it takes to secure America and defends its interests. As more and more Americans see President Obama as indecisive in making his decision in Afghanistan, even as his commanders on the ground request direct action and troop increases, the more this type of onslaught will sink him further in the polls and erode what little is left of his political capital and public confidence. Obama and the Nobel Prize: When War becomes Peace
foxyarse
by foxyarse  10-11-2009    2
At this critical juncture in our history, the Norwegian Nobel Committee's decision to award the Nobel Peace Prize to President and Commander in Chief Barack Obama constitutes an unmitigated tool of propaganda and distortion, which unreservedly supports the Pentagon's "Long War": "A War without Borders" in the true sense of the word, characterised by the Worlwide deployment of US military might. Apart from the diplomatic rhetoric, there has been no meaningful reversal of US foreign policy in relation to the George W. Bush presidency, which might have remotely justified the granting of the Nobel Prize to Obama. In fact quite the opposite. The Obama military agenda has sought to extend the war into new frontiers. With a new team of military and foreign policy advisers, the Obama war agenda has been far more effective in fostering military escalation than that formulated by the NeoCons. Since the very outset of the Obama presidency, this global military project has become increasin

This news, announce today, appears to have surprised almost everyone. But what is no surprise is that if you are on the side on warmongers, neocons, racist, those who ok torture, corporate exploitation of people and the land than you want to destroy this president. If you have hopes for peace, progress in alternative energies and new directions, national health care, unions and decent wages than this is the man who is on the frontlines fighting for these things. Closing down the suicidal plans for putting nuke missiles on the border with Poland was one clear change that we can see -- because it meant direct European and USA military conflict with Russia. This fact maybe lost in the madness of 24-hour news but it was 4sure. That dangerous and unnecessary Bush Era program is ended...and Obama gets attacked at home by the warmongers for "backing down to Russia." Like the Nobel Committee said....we see he is for real, we see he is trying, and we add our hopes to his and encour

Why are feminists like Azar Nafisi called "right wing" "neo cons?"
Roque Nuevo

The quotes in the clip are welcome antidotes to the attitude our Beloved Leader is flacking towards the Islamic Republic of Iran. But the article itself leads into the story of <p>"a vibrant and beautiful young girl, Neda Agha-Soltan, and not the men who rule over Iran has become a symbol of Iranian people's fight for democracy and pluralism. Her murder, like those of Politkovskaya and Estermirova, gives the lie to the claims of those who vainly tried to silence them, and reminds the rest of us that we neither should or can evade the truth and its consequences."</p> The article is about a journalism award in honor of the Russian journalist, Ana Politkovskaya. She says that it was Politkovskaya's <p>"single-minded commitment to truth, and her demand for justice, that made her so dangerous to the tyrants in her country and inconvenient to leaders of western democracies.</p> More than this, Nafisi takes us on a world historical tour of feminists and feminism.

A retired Central Intelligence Agency official has confirmed to the Senate Intelligence Committee that on the secret mission to Teheran last May, Robert C. According to a person who has read the committee's draft report, the retired C.I.A. official, George W. Cave, an Iran expert who was part of the mission, said the group had 10 falsified passports, believed to be Irish, and a key-shaped cake to symbolize the anticipated ''opening'' to Iran.

September ‘Surprise’

"The United States was aware of Iran’s unfinished uranium enrichment site for several years, senior U.S. officials told CNN on Friday. U.S. officials have known about the facility since President George W. Bush’s administration, according to the officials who declined to be identified because of the sensitive nature of the negotiations." Yes, the Bushies knew about it, too, and said nothing – but why not? After all, George W. was not exactly known as an apologist for the Iranian regime, and he was no less eager than his successor to tag Tehran as a serial deceiver. The CIA knew about it when they issued that now inconvenient National Intelligence Estimate averring that Iran had abandoned all efforts to militarize its nuclear research in 2003. Were they trying to protect the Iranians, too?

Obama Delays Afghanistan Troop Decision

The generals want more troops. Or, at least, these are the "leaks," from the Pentagon and the head general, Chairman of the Joint Chief of Staff, is testifying in Congress now and is saying we "probably," need more troops. If listening to Fox News or CNN it almost sounds like the President approved more troops. But he has not. The President is not going to make a decision on troop increases anytime soon. I, personally, think he should ask a few more generals to resign, tell the Republicans: "You Lie!," and continue to stand strong against the racist, warmongers, neocons and zionist extremist that continue to try to rule with Hate & Fear.

“The Tenthers.” I recently started seeing a few references to this term in the standard places, Alternet, ThinkProgress, and elsewhere. But now it seems to have come from on high like the NeoCons did with every new buzzword during the Bush years. In fact, its usage has come on so fast and so regularly that someone over at the Washington Times picked up on the newly-approved jargon: Health care reform supporters at the Center for American Progress, the American Prospect, MSNBC and other outlets have deployed the term against Republicans who cite the 10th Amendment as reason not to create new programs. Some of the leading Republican proponents of the allegedly “dangerous” and “conspiratorial” theory include Sens. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma and Jim DeMint of South Carolina, and Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota. “As the nation emerges from the worst economic downturn in three generations, the tenthers would strip away the very reforms and economic

U.S. Says Again: No More Settlement Expansion

This week the new Obama Administration repeated it's positon --- a position in all Middle East peace talks for the last decades - that there should be no more expansion of Israeli settlements. No nothing. No exceptions. No more. They couldn't make it any clearer. Of course, Israeli and pro-zionist news sources thus talk as if the negotations for "renewed peace talks," have failed when, in fact, they haven't even started. The Zionist idea of someone's else's failure appears to mean they don't agree with the Israeli position, or any of it's policies of collective punishment, apartheid and the ongoing genocide of the Palestinian people (i.e. Zionism). There is a lot of political backlash on this, for sure. Warmongers, racist, neo-cons and zionist extremist now are the President's worst critics and want to drag him down the most.  Israel and USA neocons led the way lying about Saddam Hussein having weapons of mass destruction and for the past few years are spreading the same lies about Iran. And our corrosive and toxic media prints this negative gossip as if it was news. Then generals and politicians quote the false non-news gossip. All the while (like in Iraq) the actual facts and info from the IAEA has to be ignored. It's quite a trick but how dumb could we be to get fooled by it again. Of course, it's not like most people are fooled but the warmongers need to come up with some reason for invasion so this gives 'em something to babble while their war plans move forward. The extra "irony," is Israel is the nation with the hundreds of illegal nuke weapons. So, it looks like the pressure of another war for the sake of Israel and Oil remains the Master Plan. Israel is probably also the most racist nation in the world and accusing everyone else of racism seems to cover this fact up. Don't ge

It's practically a full-time job keeping up with the war lies, war crimes and war ugliness, more revealed everyday. Assassination, btw, is officially against current USA law --- but the CIA, with the encouragement of Bush and Cheney, just decided to ignore this law --- and others laws as well: from torture to protection of civil rights: they felt, apparently, the law did not apply to them. That's always very dangerous, a dark road to fascism. Just 'restoring adherence to the law," by President Obama, has already made things better....better if you believe in human decency. Bounty hunting is not new, btw. The British, the Spanish, the Mexicans and the Americans all gave bounty for Indian scalps. Fascist also can 'hire,' folks from prison for a cartoon of cigarettes and TV privileges to ax murder people, - and, like murder for scalps, it's done. Kissinger Admits Iran Attack Is About Oil
The Infowarrior
by The Infowarrior  8-16-2009    3
As blogger Robert Weissman points out, the "legitimate aspirations" that Kissinger affords Iran later in the piece "do not include control over the oil that the United States and other industrial countries need." According to the CIA's world factbook, Iran has the world's second largest reserves of conventional crude oil at 133 gigabarrels. Adding non-conventional oil, Iran holds 10% of the global oil supply. Kissinger's admission that U.S. control of Iranian oil supplies is the real agenda behind hostility towards Iran would raise eyebrows and bring condemnation from many, but there are a hard core of Neo-Con cheerleaders who would support such an agenda even if it is openly accepted that nuclear proliferation is just a smokescreen for looting more middle east oil.

There certainly is a lot of risk, not with the money spent so much as the Guarantee and Backup Insurance the government has pledged. But...for every economic issue you could probably have a five-way debate, but the fact is people are buying cars again, big bucks is being put into alternative energy cars (and other alternative energy programs), home sales and prices starting to stabilize, banks making profits instead of going out of business....and good people programs also happening and the major achievement of national health care may finally happen. P.S. It's only our warmongering Republicans, neo-cons, racist and right-wing nut jobs and corrosive, toxic media that makes it sound different. The real picture is clear p
