POPSThe Neocon Welfare State When most people think of neoconservatism, they think of foreign policy. More specifically, they define neocons by their insistence on "Hard Wilsonian," might makes right desire for aggressive war. But neoconservatism is a total package, and they know that Big Government abroad requires Big Government at home. So it shouldn't surprise anyone that neoconservatives are also strong backers of the welfare state.

POPS Irving Kristol Irving Kristol, 1920-2009: Godfather of Neoconservatism (Read WP posts from Donald Douglas) | (Read MT posts from Donald Douglas) The Astute Bloggers graciously provides the New York Times link, “Irving Kristol, Godfather of Modern Conservatism, Dies at 89.” Also, my good friend Ken Davenport has written his own thoughtful commemoration, “Irving Kristol, 1920-2009.” Ken focuses on how Kristol’s neoconservatism has become the most important critique of modern statist ideologies (and of especially the consequences of post-1960s Democratic Party social policy). There’s lots of commentary at Memeorandum. See Jules Crittenden, GayPatriot, Power Line, The Other McCain, and Outside The Beltway. See especially John Podoretz’s obituary at Commentary, and Robert Kagan at the Washington Post. And Myron Magnet, at City Journal, shares a personal anecdote about Kristol’s compassion: Read more >>> http://www.memeorandum.com/090918/p115#a090918p115

POPSThe Neoconservative Resurgency With Obama--Neoconservativism 2.0 Well documented article worth reading entirely. Then there is this article too : That must be the meaning of change. The goal was not to restore the rule of law and constitutional legitimacy, but to transcend the Bush administration's cowboy unilateralism and tactfully reassert a neo-conservative normalcy in America's foreign policy. And this more recent article: ‘No change from Bush to Obama', say Neocons and Liberals 16 Sep 2009 American foreign policy under Barack Obama has not changed course after the Bush years, according to a group of prominent commentators from both sides of the political divide. (except for the breaking missile shield policy)...from a UK media source. Yet the U.S. Media are absolutely silent.

POPSIndependents Dominate "Two Party" System, GOP Sinks Gallup proves that non-partisans lead slightly who are not loyal to the political party machinery. GOP is sinking, people disenfranchised after George W. Bush and 2008 election process. Republicans should blame Neoconservatism (Bush-Cheney and Co., including RINO primary candidates) for their fall. To put it another way the republican party has put itself in "exile", which nobody trusts.

POPSTea Party Blow-back: Republicans Lack Credibility and Trustworthiness This post from the conservative Cato Institute blog seals the point with a video of a republican Congressman getting booed at a Tea Party. They have a good pod cast on the subject, Reading the GOP's Tea Leaves (here) which shows that Neoconservatism must be rejected and is a cause of both Big Government and expansionist unjust wars. Republicans (and particularly the RINO establishment) are presently a part of the problem, not the solution. Neoconservatives (like Bush and the recent primary GOP candidates, all CFR members) are RINOs and not conservatives, constitutionalists, or for limited government as people like Pat Buchanan and Ron Paul have exposed.

POPSNeoconservatives Still a Threat, Names and History Do not be fooled republicans! You can add Mark Levin to the list who talk about "limited government" yet believe in Unitary Executive , as well as the "noble lie" (e.g. Iraq war) to achieve political ends. Great video summary by Ron Paul, though dated, still very relevant.

POPSObama's Jan. 13th Neocon Dinner with William Kristol, founder of the Project for a New American Century and son of Irving Kristol, the "father of neoconservatism" (who also first coined the term for them) and Charles Krauthammer (PNAC member) and two other conservatives. The self-labeled neoconservatives were the authors of the Iraq War which Obama insists he opposed. Actually, Obama should feel very comfortable supping with the Neocons since they are originally from the Left , not the Right. That's right, just like leaders of US world wars to "make the world safe for democracy", like Presidents Wilson and FDR (both Dems). They are RINOs. "Setting the table", so to speak, for Obama no doubt. Really now, why would Obama dine with them? Actually, the host, George Will is more of a libertarian conservative and supported Ron Paul for President, so it is good that he was there, but in bad company.

POPSJeb Bush Positions for President: Bush/Palin 2012? 'Jeb' (John Ellis) Bush is a member of the neocon think tank Project for New American Century , and he is more popular and well spoken than his (former cheerleader) Yale 'Skull & Bones' brother whose was not known for his academic skills . Williams Kristol (PNAC founder, son of Irving Kristol, father of neoconservatism) publicly conceded during the primaries that the only negative for Jeb Bush (republican Gov of Florida, with a large electoral base) was that America was tired of Bush's in office now. Would Cheney (PNAC member) be his VP, again, too? Or would it be Gov. Sarah Palin whom Kristol and the neocon gang are now grooming? (Yes, this will be the ticket, inauguration 2013--how unlucky). Obama received Kristol's blessing too.

POPSThe Ghoul's Glossary: the 2008 Election Withdrawal: A way to avoid the worst consequences of a moment of pleasurable conquest, which, however, often comes too late to avoid years of support payments. Youth vote: The expectation that 21-year-olds will save the nation from the folly of their elders, in preference to gulping shots from the navels of hot barmaids during a Tuesday happy hour. Zionism: The theory that because Nazis hated Jews, the latter would be much better off all gathered together on disputed land in the midst of 300 million Arabs and Iranians.

POPSThese Videos May Cure Your Ignorance About A Few Things... Open Your Mind Sheeple These Videos May Cure Your Ignorance About A Few Things... Open Your Mind Sheeple ! This is a partial excerpt of videos that all Americans should watch just to balance out what you are being fed by the major news networks and GOP produced propaganda machines. We are not discussing anything new. This is not about 'conspiracy'. It is about YOU becoming informed so you can make better decisions FOR YOURSELF instead of being told what to think by our so called 'mainstream media' According to reputable international news watchers the U.S. used to be in the Top Ten of 'free press' ratings in the world. Now, we are something like Number 30 on the list of countries with 'free media' reporting. That statistic by itself should prompt your mind to question why our five major multi-billion dollar news media conglomerates (who control some 80% of all newsprint, broadcast, cable and electronic

POPSRudy's Guru Slapped Down By Jackie O This is just a light, silly story about the master of neo-con evil, Norman Podhoretz. It's just a fun read and nothing terribly important except for a knowing giggle.

POPSObserving Rudy G. Rudolph Giuliani cleverly understands that the best way to appeal to the Republican base is with militarism rather than morality. Says Glenn Greenwald: "Giuliani's talent for expressing prosecutor-like righteous anger towards 'bad people' – as well as his well-honed ability to communicate base-pleasing rhetoric towards Islamic extremists – is underappreciated. I don't think any candidate will be able to compete with his ability to convey a genuine hard-line against Middle Eastern Muslims and that is the issue that – admittedly with some exceptions – dominates the Christian conservative agenda more than gay marriage and abortion (concerns which he can and will minimize by promising to appoint more Antonin Scalias and Sam Alitos to the Supreme Court, something he emphasized... in a highly amicable interview with Sean Hannity).

POPSNeoconservatism Founder Kristol Most interesting is 1. He describes himself as a "liberal mugged by reality". (Don't they all) 2. Lifetime member of CFR 3. GW awarded him Presidential Medal of Freedom

POPSHow the Neocon-Christian Right Alliance Brought Down the House of Bush C. UNGER: I traveled undercover with Tim LeHay, who is the prophet of the "Left Behind" series. I traveled with him to the battlefield of Armageddon, where they believe the final conflict would take place. Megiddo is -- from Megiddo, we get the term Armageddon, where the final conflict will take place. And I was walking up the hill with LeHay and about ninety of his followers, and as you look over this spectacularly beautiful pastoral valley . They see that it will be filled with blood, the blood of as many as two billion people. And I talked with them about that, and they say there will be a river of blood, 200 miles long, about four-and-a-half feet deep. And I asked one of them when all this would take place. And they said, “Very soon, but not soon enough. Any day now.” So they see this fantasy is taking place, and this is sort of one of the horrific visions that is spelled out in the Book of Revelation.

POPSLessons in Political Suicide "...unfortunate truth of the matter is that they're willing to play hardball on a tiny number of issues, and to give ground more or less everywhere else..." Sadly, this is too true. I would argue, however, that this stems more from the shared addiction to big government found in both neoconservatism and modern liberalism, than from a genteelness within the White House. The long term ends of public policies are not so different -- even if their short term ends seem opposed -- when the means by which those polices are implemented nearly identical. That is why modern liberalism and neoconservatism can so easily accommodate one another. When you both agree that big government is the answer, the only question left is who runs the show.

POPSIs Bush good for American Conservatism? On the fence myself, but I lean to the Bottum side of the debate. Big government "conservatism" (neoconservatism) may be a lesser evil when compared to big government liberalism, but lets not forget that acclimation to neoconservatism makes modern liberalism all the more palatable. We all know the folk wisdom of boiling a frog. Put him in a hot pot and he'll jump out. But him in a cool pot then bring it to a boil, and he'll happily stew until frog soup is ready.

POPSNeo-Conservatism Most people probably don't have a clue as to what neoconservatism is all about. It is really just that "the end justifies the means, and lying is ok...etc etc Look for a second clip that will summarize Neo-Conservatism, or go directly to the page.

POPSProminent conservative surveys the wreckage of contemporary conservatism The entire article is highly reccommended for those that want to trace the GOP's post-9/11 "stumble into neoconservatism" from an insider's perspective. Bramwell's honesty and way with words are refreshing. Until recently, it has been almost impossible for me to speak candidly about the conservative movement, for it was my strange fate to serve as director and later trustee of the movement’s flagship journal, National Review. Earlier this year, at William F. Buckley’s request, I resigned both positions. I can therefore now declare what perhaps has oft been thought but never, at least not often enough, expressed. Notwithstanding conservatives’ belief that they, in contrast to their partisan opponents, have thought deeply about the challenges facing the United States, it is they who have become unserious.

POPSNeoconservatism is the new fringe Actually, it was always the fringe. Scaring the doodoo out of the weakhearted median voter, didn't make him a conservative, it just got his vote for awhile. But the median voter has heard "wolf" enough times now that it doesn't scare him anymore.
