POPSWhy Obama Can't Move the HealthCare Numbers Why can't the president move the numbers? One reason may be that he keeps talking about details of the proposal while voters are looking at the issue in a broader context. Polling conducted earlier this week shows that 57% of voters believe that passage of the legislation would hurt the economy, while only 25% believe it would help. That makes sense in a nation where most voters believe that increases in government spending are bad for the economy. When the president responds that the plan is deficit neutral, he runs into a pair of basic problems. The first is that voters think reducing spending is more important than reducing the deficit. So a plan that is deficit neutral with a big spending hike is not going to be well received.

POPSTOYOTA HYBRID HOAX
In fact, almost none of this was true. Virtually every aspect of Sikes's story as told to reporters makes no sense. His claim that he'd tried to yank up the accelerator could be falsified, with his help, in half a minute. And now we even have an explanation for why he'd pull such a stunt, beyond the all-American desire to have 15 minutes of fame (recall the "Balloon Boy Hoax" from October) and the aching need to be perceived as a victim. The lack of skepticism from the beginning was stunning. I combed through haystacks of articles without producing such needles as the words "alleges" or "claims." When Sikes said he brought his car to a Toyota ( TM - news - people ) dealer two weeks earlier, recall notice in hand, and they just turned him away, the media bought that, too. In Sikes We Trust. Then the pundits deluged us with a tsunami of an anti-Toyota sanctimony . Where to begin? Well, the patrol car didn't slow down the Prius; the bumpers never touched. The officers used a loud

POPSAwesome or Awful? Studying the “Christ in Majesty” Mosaic at the National Basilica Those who love the image say they like the fact that Christ is presented as strong and formidable. For them this image is a relief from many other modern portraits of Christ which present him as a thin, willow-wisp of a man with a kind of “Mister Rogers” demeanor and a goofy look on his face. But this Christ is someone who is to be taken seriously and to whom we must render an account. My own thoughts have shifted over the years. I disliked the image as a younger man. But over the years and after thoroughly studying the scriptures I have come to greatly admire this work and image of Christ. I often go to the Basilica and when I do I always stand in the nave and look to Him for strength.

POPSAustrian Economics and Classical Liberalism Mises, for instance, is widely recognized as probably the premier liberal thinker of the 20th century. In his magnum opus, Human Action (1949), he shed light on the connection between value-free economics and liberal politics: While praxeology, and therefore economics too, uses the terms happiness and removal of uneasiness in a purely formal sense, liberalism attaches to them a concrete meaning. It presupposes that people prefer life to death, health to sickness, nourishment to starvation, abundance to poverty. It teaches man how to act in accordance with these valuations.… The liberals do not assert that men ought to strive after the goals mentioned above. What they maintain is that the immense majority prefer . (p. 154) ....more .... Full article Austrian Economics and Classical Liberalism http://mises.org/daily/4113

POPS It's On! ..... This one is a MUST READ! NOT ONE RED CENT!... The word went forth among conservative activists: Do not give money to the NRSC. The current chairman, Sen. John Cornyn, must resign. His replacement must pledge to keep the committee neutral in contested primaries. Let Republican voters -- not party elites -- choose Republican candidates. This is where the conservative grassroots rebellion begins. When the NRSC asks you for money, tell 'em: NOT ONE RED CENT! UPDATE: On June 27, eight Republican members of the House voted "yes" for Nancy Pelosi's top legislative priority, the Waxman-Markey energy tax bill. Until these eight RINOs are terminated -- by retirement or by defeat in the GOP primaries -- then the National Republican Congressional Committee deserves the same answer: NOT ONE RED CENT! http://bit.ly/dqHwLo

POPSCalling U.S. Christians Back to Bible Basics Ham continued: "God's Word, however, makes it clear that there is no neutral position. God's people need to unashamedly and uncompromisingly stand on the Bible and its absolute standards. We need to proclaim a Christian worldview and the Gospel, all the while giving answers for the hope we have."

POPSObamacare Can Be Saved - Free Healthcare For All! For the sake of discussion, let's assume the Obama savings are possible. The biggest and easiest savings would come in the first few years as the low hanging fruit is harvested. It would be reasonable to assume that fully half of the savings could be realized in the first two years, three at most. So what's stopping Barack Obama, and his powerful congressional majority, from saving this money right now. Imagine how the health care debate would change next year if the president, during his State of the Union Address, held up one of those big cardboard novelty checks in the amount of 200 Billion dollars, and could prove that Medicare/ Medicaid spent that much less money. Neither Democrat nor Republican could stop the passage of Obamacare if there was concrete proof that the health plan was indeed "deficit neutral". Imagine it - free health care for all!

POPSClimategate: The Official Cover-Up Continues
By what bizarre logic, then, did Sir Muir think it a good idea to appoint to his panel the editor of Nature, Dr Philip Campbell? Dr Campbell is hardly neutral: his magazine has for years been arguing aggressively in favour of the AGW, and which published this editorial in the wake of Climategate: The e-mail archives stolen last month from the Climatic Research Unit at the University of East Anglia (UEA), UK, have been greeted by the climate-change-denialist fringe as a propaganda windfall (see page 551). To these denialists, the scientists’ scathing remarks about certain controversial palaeoclimate reconstructions qualify as the proverbial ’smoking gun’: proof that mainstream climate researchers have systematically conspired to suppress evidence contradicting their doctrine that humans are warming the globe. This paranoid interpretation would be laughable were it not for the fact that obstructionist politicians in the US Senate will probably use it next year .....

POPSConnection between homosexuality and pedophilia Ok, I am happily herto. What really gets me is how anyone could be so deluded. This is wrong, people. I understand the thinking behind it because I understand religious idea surrounding homosexuality. What I don't understand is the willingness to create hostility, hate and discontent. Especially from a religion that is supposed to represent love and forgiveness. A pedophile's thinking is damaged. To say that homosexual behavior is linked to pedophilia is saying that homosexual's are damaged. The gall of some people under the name of God is damaged. We should all be angry over this. It is an attemt to get biased, bigotry into laws. Perhaps they should pray for a little compassion and understanding and keep the laws neutral

POPSThe Scott Heard 'Round the World
One elected Democratic official -- although required by the state party to support Coakley publicly -- privately admitted over the weekend that he will vote Tuesday for Brown, as will his wife. Coakley was "mailing it in" on the senatorial campaign trail, the official said, relating how in his own election, he had gone door-to-door "seven days a week" soliciting votes. After winning the Dec. 8 Democratic primary, however, Coakley seemed to shift into neutral, expecting to coast easily to victory in the general election. She even took a six-day vacation from campaigning in December. A lieutenant colonel in the National Guard, Brown has relentlessly criticized the Obama administration's decision to grant civilian trials to accused foreign terrorists like Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab. Giuliani pounded that theme Friday while campaigning with Brown here, slamming Coakley for her assertion during a debate last week that terrorists were "gone" ......
