The Core Misconceptions In The "War On Terror"
thisnamecantbetaken
by thisnamecantbetaken  10-1-2008    1
"Terrorism is a particular tactic of political violence. Wars are conducted between states. Declaring a war on terror is like declaring war on serial murderers. War is what al-Qaeda wants. Such language elevates the terrorists to the level of warriors in a battle. The terrorists are criminals, not warriors, and should be treated accordingly. "

McCain's Foreign Policy: Global Democratic Gang
blueridge
by blueridge  9-27-2008
McCain calls for a "League of Democracies" for the purposes of "peace" but actually for war. Its key principle is "entangling alliances" which George Washington warned against, starting with NATO as its foundation. This is actually an old plan and precisely what the UN is all about except it cuts China and Russia out. This is consistent with George Bush (Bush 41) "new world order" speech where he talked about a United Nations that lives up to the intention of its founders, as he launched Iraq War I. GWB 43 has also made reference to similar principles while already by-passing the UN when it is reluctant to launch a war. Actually it makes little difference, except to show that Russia and China will be cut out of decisions because they will be the new targets of contest under his neocon vision. The call to "make the world safe for democracy" (like Wilson and FDR) has been the foundation of world wars, and likely more.

Russia Moving into U.S. Backyard
spirithiker
by spirithiker  9-27-2008    10
Thanks to the arrogance of the Bush/Cheney foreign policy with Venezuela, we now have talk of nuclear reactors being built in Venezuela with Russia's assistance. Relations between U.S. and Venezuela have been deteriorating for years and as a result Russia is extending its reach around the world. If we had maintained better relations with Russia, this would not cause Americans much concern. But the reality is that we now have two oil rich nations trading nuclear technology and weapons that are not motivated to work with the U.S.

Dispute over US- Pakistani F-16 deal
tommy2balmy
by tommy2balmy  9-19-2008
But the move has raised the ire of some representatives in Congress. They are blocking the payment because they say the money was supposed to go towards counterterror programs. "We are concerned that the administration’s proposal to use military assistance to pay for the F-16 upgrades will divert funds from more effective counterterrorism tools like helicopters, TOW missiles, and night-vision goggles," said Howard Berman and Nita Lowey, heads of two key committees in the House of Representatives, in a July statement.

Pakistani tribesmen threaten to block US supplies to Afghanistan
tommy2balmy
by tommy2balmy  9-17-2008
Elders have withdrawn demand for Pakistani army to withdraw from region and are ready to co-operate against the US. Another accomplishment for President Bush, uniting Pakistan. Who would have thought it possible? Of course the fact that they have nuclear weapons and are uniting in opposition to our attacks is not good news.

Pakistan Orders Troops to Fire Back Against US Insurgents
blueridge
by blueridge  9-16-2008
Pakistan finally reclaims it sovereignty and orders its troops to fire back if US forces or drones violate their border again and attack on their soil (usually killing more civilians than combatants). This is the only way to change Bush policy and now forces Bush (and even Obama who says he would do same) to reconsider the consequences of such actions. Multi-million dollar attacks using Predator drones is cowardly warfare and a clever way to hit and run while never proving who exactly was being targetted and committing gross negligence in regard to innocent civilians. This is also contrary to the principles of Just War which requires solid ID, direct confrontation where opportunity to surrender is offered, and separating civilians from combatants during any attack, instead of this "just kill them all" policy called "scorched earth". There also is no way to identify (after missiles or bombs strike) who the persons really are, or justification to attack.

"Yankee Hegemony Is Finished," Says Chavez
zalisan
by zalisan  9-14-2008    1
Chavez has called the U.S. Navy's newly re-established Fourth Fleet a threat. On Wednesday, he said he's sure "nuclear submarines pass under our noses" off Venezuela's coast. He said Venezuela is aiming to strengthen its "defensive capability with our strategic allies, and Russia is one of them." Later, Chavez called the U.S. the "empire" as he addressed troops at the christening of a newly built coast guard patrol ship. "Every day, relations between Venezuela and Russia will continue to deepen." He dismissed comparisons to the Cold War, but mentioned Cuba while saying he had been reviewing flight theory in a simulator in hopes of flying one of the Russian planes. Addressing his close friend Fidel Castro, Chavez said: "I'm going to fly a Tu-160. Fidel, I'm going to fly low past you there."

Sarah Palin Talks Lightly About Nuclear War
paleblue
by paleblue  9-14-2008
Man I'm almost at a loss for words -- I can't believe this trickery... They have the public so caught up in this circus - ie.. 'she's lipstick this and he's a community leader - and you're momma is that and your momma is this' that I can't believe this race is this close... For some our continuing racial divide is a hindrance for others its a sexual gender blockade whatever the reason people are just not seeing that the rich are getting richer, the war is producing millions for certain people/companies etc.. and all we're left with is high taxes, and bailouts of the same people/companies that are ripping us off in the first place... AGAIN I make my reference to this quote from GW Bush via Bob Woodard (official bio guy for the bush family) Please Please read the last paragraph I think it says it all and remember woodard was NOT called on the carpet for repeating it!! http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2004/04/15/60minutes/main612067.shtml?CMP=ILC-SearchStories

Abkhazia, Ossetia and Iran – Risks of Spreading Conflicts
rmowery
by rmowery  9-14-2008
What is puzzling after reading all the press on Ossetia and the US involvement is why does the US really have interest. Thinking more and doing some Google Earth it seems that Georgia area has great position in terms of range to Iran. So what if the US an ally worked out a deal to use that as a launching point on Iran? Might that not piss off Putin and Russia who has publicly acknowledge providing nuclear power guidance, etc. So with that in mind, Putin/Medeved could easily say - get out of our region. Not sure what is more scary - the idea that the US/allies might have been planning to attack Iran or the fact Putin and crew are willing to possibly defend Iran.
