POPSUS Intel: Iranian nuclear strike on U.S. ?
“The only explanation we can find is that Iranians are figuring out how to launch a missile from a ship and get it up to altitude and then detonate it,” “And that’s exactly what you would do if you had a nuclear weapon on a Scud or a Shahab-3, and you wanted to explode it over the US.” "If a crude nuclear weapon were detonated anywhere between 40 kilometers to 400 kilometers above the earth, in a split-second it would generate an electro-magnetic pulse that would cripple military and civilian communications, power, transportation, water, food, and other infrastructure" Asked how many Americans would die if Iran were to launch the EMP attack it appears to be preparing, Graham gave a chilling reply. “You have to go back into the 1800s to look at the size of population” that could survive in a nation deprived of mechanized agriculture, transportation, power, water, and communication. “70 to 90 percent of the population would not be sustainable after this kind of attack”.

POPSVienna-Based Investigators Getting Tough On Iran Now Why the emphasis now on sins Iran may have committed in the past? Wasn’t the finding that warhead design stopped in 2003 reassuring enough? No, say nuclear experts inside and outside the international agency. Candor about Iran’s progress in designing a weapon matters because Tehran’s scientists continue to move forward on a related front. They are learning how to make uranium fuel. And if they already have a good warhead design in hand, the lack of fuel may be the one thing standing between them and the ability to make a bomb. The American finding last December that Iran suspended its weapon-design work in 2003 created a classic case of a glass that could be seen as either half full or half empty. That does not mean they have a workable design for the most frightening kind of bomb in today’s world — one miniaturized to about one ton so it can sit atop a missile, which is much faster and harder to stop than any plane

POPSWho's the Grave Threat, Obama? Although the IAEA and the CIA have declared that Iran has no nuclear weapons program, Obama called Iran a "grave threat" for firing 9 missiles during military exercises. One of the missiles has the capacity to reach Israel. Israel recently practiced a simulated bombing run on Iran's non-existent nuclear weapons facility, but no one in the USA government or running for president called Israel a "grave threat." Israeli officials have also been clear they intend to strike Iran if it doesn't give up its nuclear facilities. Yet Israel has nuclear weapons, ones obtained through illegal means according to international law. Undoubtedly, Iran was sending a message with its missile test. The message is "we will defend ourselves." How is that wrong when they have been threatened by Israel?

POPSKhan Nuke Smuggling Network Has Ties to Pentagon & "Israeli Elements"
This is what Drudge and the Wash Post do not tell you about the Khan network: 2000-2001: Nuclear Proliferation Network Penetrates Pentagon with Help of Senior Officials A nuclear proliferation network operating in the US penetrates the Pentagon and related institutions, according to FBI whistleblower Sibel Edmonds. The network, which is run by Pakistani scientist A. Q. Khan, but also includes Turkish and Israeli elements, is allegedly helped by a number of senior officials in the Pentagon. Edmonds will later say: “The provided lists of potential moles from Pentagon-related institutions who had access to databases concerning this information... One of the Pentagon figures that is a target of the FBI investigation is Larry Franklin, an analyst who will be jailed in 2006 for passing US defense information to lobbyists According to Edmonds, Franklin is “one of the top people providing information and packages during 2000 and 2001.”[/quo

POPS Diplomats Say UN Probe Of Iran Nukes A Failure
Ahmadinejad said last month that Iranian scientists were putting 6,000 new uranium enriching centrifuges into place, about twice the existing number, and testing a new type that works five times faster. But the diplomat who provided details on the report said it will say the rate of expansion has been much below that touted by Ahmadinejad. He and other diplomats close to the IAEA previously said Iran has exaggerated its progress and is having problems operating the 3,000 centrifuges already in place. Additionally, the diplomat speculated Tuesday that Iran might be holding back on a quick build-up of enrichment capabilities hoping it will be easier to come to terms with the U.S. administration that will succeed President Bush, known for his hard-line Iran policies. The commonly accepted figure for a nuclear enrichment program can be used as a platform for a full industrial-scale program that could churn out enough enriched material for dozens of nuclear warheads over time.

POPSGroup Claims Iran Speeding Up Nuke Plans The NCRI has at least twice given detailed information to the IAEA that IAEA inspectors later verified, including the original information that exposed Iran's uranium-enrichment program and the location of those facilities in 2002. On at least one other occasion, however, the IAEA was unable to verify information the NCRI provided. NCRI leaders said their latest effort to locate the alleged nuclear-warhead facility was triggered by the Dec. 3 release of a U.S. National Intelligence Estimate concluding that Iran halted its nuclear-weaponization efforts in 2003. The NCRI is eager to refute that finding. The report effectively ended speculation in Washington about a potential U.S. military strike against Iran to cripple its nuclear program. It also undercut U.S.-led efforts to pressure Iran to suspend its uranium enrichment program.

POPSDecision time for US over Iran threat Will the *free world* repeat history and drag it's feet...allowing another insane dictator to hold it hostage? We are hearing it from all sides now; not just the US. So is the intell bogus? Is the threat real? Will we all be safer next year, having spent the time with *diplomatic* appeals?

POPS Warhead Built Within A Year UN's Nuclear Watchdog Russian officials yesterday called for patience, insisting Iran could still clinch a deal with the international community in the next few weeks. They pointed to other parts of the IAEA report showing Tehran had been cooperating with the agency's inspectors on other nuclear issues. "We are most concerned to prevent Iran being cornered so that they walk out of the Non Proliferation Treaty, and break relations with the IAEA," one Russian source said. He said Chinese officials were stepping up diplomatic pressure on Iran, with Moscow, to avert a collision. "They are on high alert that something has to be done quickly," the source said

POPS Iran's Blueprints For Nuclear Warheads Governors of the IAEA meet in Vienna next week to discuss the latest report on Iran by the agency's chief Mohamed ElBaradei. While the inspectors had been allowed to examine them in the country, Teheran had up to now refused to let the IAEA have a copy for closer perusal. Diplomats at the International Atomic Energy Agency said the apparent concession was intended to head off the threat of new UN sanctions.

POPSNavy veteran questions why six nuclear missiles were flown on combat aircraft to staging area for Mi
At the end of his editorial, he poses the following questions. The questions that must be answered: 1 Why, and for what ostensible purpose, were these nuclear weapons taken to Barksdale? 2 How long was it before the error was discovered? 3 How many mistakes and errors were made, and how many needed to be made, for this to happen? 4 How many and which security protocols were overlooked? 5 How many and which safety procedures were bypassed or ignored? 6 How many other nuclear command and control non-observations of procedure have there been? 7 What is Congress going to do to better oversee U.S. nuclear command and control? 8 How does this incident relate to concern for reliability of control over nuclear weapons and nuclear materials in Russia, Pakistan and elsewhere? 9 Does the Bush administration, as some news reports suggest, have plans to attack Iran with nuclear weapons? 10 If this was an accident, have we degraded our military to a point where we ar

POPSCold War Grows Hot "again" I'd like you all to consider! Why would nations around the world, like Russia and China, be ramping up their arsenals like this? Sure, none of the powers ever really stopped, but there was a slow down in the decade past. At least a slow down in the rhetoric and boast of each side. And now we see all nations declaring their "superior" military power yet again. WHY? Because it's coming and they all know it. Some even intend it to be. However, not unlike an avalanche, once you get it started.............. Russia's Newest missile Take note of the part where the missile breaks up and surrounds the warhead with decoys for any antimissile defense.
