POPSPutin Makes His Move Putin's aggression against Georgia should not be traced only to its NATO aspirations or his pique at Kosovo's independence. It is primarily a response to the "color revolutions" in Ukraine and Georgia in 2003 and 2004, when pro-Western governments replaced pro-Russian ones. Ever since, Putin has been determined to stop and, if possible, reverse the pro-Western trend on his borders. He seeks not only to prevent Georgia and Ukraine from joining NATO but also to bring them under Russian control. He seeks to carve out a zone of influence within NATO, with a lesser security status for countries along Russia's strategic flanks. That is the primary motive behind Moscow's opposition to U.S. missile defense programs in Poland and the Czech Republic. His war against Georgia is part of this grand strategy. Putin cares no more about a few thousand South Ossetians than he does about Kosovo's Serbs.

POPSIsrael Considers Military Option for Iran Nukes Estimated that Iran is several years or as much as a decade away from being able to field a bomb, as Israel claims, but are concerned that Iran is working faster than anticipated to add centrifuges, the workhorses of uranium enrichment.

POPS"...BE HIT WITH NEW PENALTIES" Everyone needs to giving this situation more serious attention. We are about to see a U.S. led nuclear strike against Iran..."in , and around the great river Euphrates."

POPSPentagon Missing Nuclear Missile Components Missing: 1,000 nuclear missile components. The Pentagon "shrugs" and says "it's just paperwork...good enough for government work". This article focuses on the response from the Pentagon after the story broke in the Financial times here. Clearly the military and federal government themselves are the greatest security risk. The Pentagon also cannot account for $15 billion in Iraq. Why must Americans keep giving them more when they never manage well what they are allocated? (See the clip "how Congress spends your money)

POPSReport: Air Force Nuke Weapons Not Secure Ironic. Yet other articles disclosed that Israeli contractors would be in charge of nuke weapon security in the U.S. , which is even more interesting. So if "terrorists" used a nuclear device, guess where it might come from? This article also underlines the Minot Air Force lapse when nukes were loaded on B-52s and flown across the country, "without (official) authorization". There is more evidence of internal security problems than from any foreign enemy.

POPSIsrael 'has 150 nuclear weapons' Most experts estimate that Israel has between 100 and 200 nuclear warheads, largely based on information leaked to the Sunday Times newspaper in the 1980s by Mordechai Vanunu, a former worker at the country's Dimona nuclear reactor. The US, a key ally of Israel, has in general followed the country's policy of "nuclear ambiguity", neither confirming or denying the existence of its assumed arsenal.

POPS Diplomats Say UN Probe Of Iran Nukes A Failure
Ahmadinejad said last month that Iranian scientists were putting 6,000 new uranium enriching centrifuges into place, about twice the existing number, and testing a new type that works five times faster. But the diplomat who provided details on the report said it will say the rate of expansion has been much below that touted by Ahmadinejad. He and other diplomats close to the IAEA previously said Iran has exaggerated its progress and is having problems operating the 3,000 centrifuges already in place. Additionally, the diplomat speculated Tuesday that Iran might be holding back on a quick build-up of enrichment capabilities hoping it will be easier to come to terms with the U.S. administration that will succeed President Bush, known for his hard-line Iran policies. The commonly accepted figure for a nuclear enrichment program can be used as a platform for a full industrial-scale program that could churn out enough enriched material for dozens of nuclear warheads over time.

POPSAhmadinejad: Israel Is Doomed Ahmadinejad used an Arabic word, ismihlal, that can also be translated as destruction, death and collapse. "Nations of the region hate this criminal fabricated regime (Israel) and will uproot this fabricated regime if the smallest and shortest opportunity is given to them," Ahmadinejad said Wednesday in an address broadcast live on state television. He spoke hours after President Bush arrived in Israel for the anniversary celebrations.

POPSGroup Claims Iran Speeding Up Nuke Plans The NCRI has at least twice given detailed information to the IAEA that IAEA inspectors later verified, including the original information that exposed Iran's uranium-enrichment program and the location of those facilities in 2002. On at least one other occasion, however, the IAEA was unable to verify information the NCRI provided. NCRI leaders said their latest effort to locate the alleged nuclear-warhead facility was triggered by the Dec. 3 release of a U.S. National Intelligence Estimate concluding that Iran halted its nuclear-weaponization efforts in 2003. The NCRI is eager to refute that finding. The report effectively ended speculation in Washington about a potential U.S. military strike against Iran to cripple its nuclear program. It also undercut U.S.-led efforts to pressure Iran to suspend its uranium enrichment program.

POPSHypothetical Attack On U.S. Outlined By China The Chinese first-strike strategy is “more than hypothetical,” according to the report. But in the near term, at least, it’s considered unlikely. ----- The likely trigger would be Taiwanese elections, where assertions of complete independence from the mainland can infuriate Chinese leaders. In 2012, however, when Taiwan holds an election and mainland China’s leadership is expected to turn over, perhaps for the worse, the risk of conflict could increase.

POPSReport: Iran Would Suffer Up to 20 Million Casualties in Nuclear War With Israel The report also points to Israel's Arrow missile defense system as an obstacle facing any Iranian strike. Another scenario includes Syria coming to Iran's defense with chemical and biological warheads launched at Israeli targets. Up to 800,000 Israelis would be killed if that were to happen, according to the report. Syria, however, would be forced to grapple with the deaths of approximately 18 million of its citizens if Israel responded with its nuclear arsenal, the Post reported.

POPSWar.....fast facts The first reference to a handgun was made in an order for iron bullets in 1326. When killed in battle, Japanese officers were promoted to the next highest rank. During the 1991 Gulf War, the Allies dropped more than 17,000 smart bombs and 210,000 dumb (unguided) bombs on Iraqi troops. In 1997, the US maintained 13,750 nuclear warheads, 5,546 of them on ballistic missiles. In 1998, the US spent more than $35 billion on its nuclear weapons programme. In 1997, the US exported $15,6 billion in arms to developing countries, 54% of which went to non-democratic regimes. Global spending on defence total more than $700 billion. Global spending on education is less than $100 billion.

POPSIran is STILL a Threat "Everywhere you turn, it is the policy of Iran to foment instability and chaos, no matter the strategic value or cost in the blood of innocents - Christians, Jews and Muslims alike." Isn't there a typo? Shouldn't it read: "Everywhere you turn, it is the policy of the United States of America to foment instability and chaos, no matter the strategic value or cost in the blood of innocents - Christians, Jews and Muslims alike."
