POPSA perfect storm's brewing to cool petroleum demand There's not so much incentive to invest in exploration, lots of incentive to keep the price of existing supplies as high a possible. The key on price is not really supply, but must be based on what people can afford to pay.

POPSBarack Obama: "Yes, I hunted and killed Bigfoot!"
To sum things up for the media, his press secretary said, "Look, Barack Obama is for everything this week!" When quiried abot the actual killing of the elusive Bigfoot and where the actual body was, Mr. Obama claims he really didn't 'kill' the Yeti, but wounded him in the arm. He tearfuly expressed his sorrow for wounding the beast as a camera crew from PETA caught the tearful confession. When the animal extremist crew left, Obama turned his attention to the reporters who were setting up to record his hunting statements. Reporters pressed him for more details about his hunting exploits. Questions ranged from..."Where did you hunt in Chicago?" to... "What caliber bullets he used in his shotgun?" Mr. Obama stumbled on the last question and had to ask an aide "what a shotgun was". The aide hastily pulled out a Bass-Pro hunting catalog flyer and showed him a picture of a kid's Daisy BB gun, which the smiling Barack 'Barry' Obama confidently pointed to as the type of weapon he s

POPSAlaska Can Meet U.S. Energy Needs we will have to get our energy from somewhere. Right now, too much of our oil comes from unstable regimes hostile to the United States"some of what we spend on Middle Eastern oil ends up funding global terrorist operations. Blocking OCS development will only exacerbate this national security threat. Alaska is not unique in seeking to tap offshore riches. Other nations, notably Norway and the United Kingdom, have been developing oil and gas offshore in harsh northern climates for decades. The production of these resources has helped maintain global energy supplies, has created thousands of jobs in those countries, and has generated tens of billions of dollars in revenue for those governments. The U.S. has long supported offshore oil and gas development in other countries. The Obama administration is even offering political and financial support for Brazil to develop its offshore oil fields.

POPSEndless Oil Kutcherov's technique involves dividing the world into a fine-meshed grid that maps cracks (or migration channels) under the Earth's crust, through which the hydrocarbons can bubble up to the surface. His advice: Drill where the cracks meet. Doing this, he predicts, will dramatically reduce the likelihood of dry wells. Kutcherov expects the success rate of drillers to more than triple, from 20% to 70%, saving billions in exploration costs while opening up vast new areas of the planet --most of which has never been deemed to have promise -- to exploration. Good news for oil-dependent humans, I guess. Not so good for the environment and climate change.

POPSThe Next Industry on the Chopping Block game plan hasn't worked out so well for Venezuelans. And check out the poor schlub sitting next to her. You can almost read his mind. How the heck did I get stuck sitting next to this national embarrassment? After "reforming" health care, the National Socialist Democrats will target the energy industry. Whether through cap-and-tax or some other stealthy mechanism, Democrats will punish more job creators as certainly as night follows day. And If Waters is really the best that Californians can do, I would recommend that residents start evacuating now. Posted by directorblue

POPSIs Lockerbie Gordon Brown’s Watergate? The Lockerbie affair is an ugly can of worms that is slowly opening up. Is the Lockerbie scandal big enough to force an early exit by Gordon Brown, or at the very least the resignation of senior government ministers? Definitely. If it turns out that Brown or his ministers have deliberately misled the British public over the matter, it could prove to be a Watergate moment for the Prime Minister and force him to step down or spark a leadership challenge within the Labour Party. POPSSuper Bacteria Check this baby out ! Deinococcus radiodurans is a fabulous bacteria. It may well be our servant to help us explore new worlds. These are the same bacteria you may have already heard of, but have forgotten. Back in the '70s they were adapted to help clean uo those nasty oil spills. Now we are heading into new territories, such as cleaning water & oxygen, and adapting to humans for survival on other planets. If you really want to see what's going on click on the links to further your education about them and your curiosity.

POPSIran discovers vast new oil reserves Iran already Holds around 10% of the worlds oil supply beneath its soil. "Susangerd oil field is in Iran's southwestern Khuzestan Province, 12 km (7.5 miles) southwest of the town of Susangerd. Its dimensions are 24 x 6 km (14.9 x 3.7 miles). The discovery was planned by the Directorate of Exploration of the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), which after acquisition and analysis of the data determined that the Susangerd oil field had new potentials."

POPSObama Invests in Offshore Drilling... ...in Brazil! I am scratching my head with this. From anything I can determine, the US is strapped for cash. Yet here is a huge load to Brazil to drill in the Tupi oil fields. Also...I can tell you from here in Brazil, Petrobras is doing just fine. Why is the US investing in a competitor to US oil companies. One more thing: where is the principled opposition to offshore drilling? Apparently it is OK to drill off Brazil's beautiful beaches, but not in the Gulf of Mexico. Final note: Interesting Soros connection at the bottom of the article. Seriously, why is nobody investigating this guy?

POPSObama's long six months
Obama sold the country a false prospectus of easy, obvious, and almost painless change. The usual six honeymoon months have elapsed, and the country is nearly through rejoicing at the consolation that they have a president whom foreigners are unlikely to throw shoes at, and who speaks in sentences. But his own Environmental Protection Agency director acknowledges that his cap-and-trade bill will have no effect on the climate, and it will neither raise revenue nor reduce carbon use. It must be replaced with a straight carbon tax of bearable impact coupled with sensible conservation, and alternate-energy-source and oil-exploration incentives. The bill that limped through the House of Representatives was a Rube Goldberg contraption of Al Gore myths and Congressional vote-buying boondoggles. Its adoption would be a disaster. The president’s claim of putting millions of Americans to work making wind-mills and solar panels is a fable that extends the frontiers of quixotry.

POPSAlthough Ignored By the Media-- Palin's Accomplishments Were Extensive
We also slowed the rate of government growth, we worked with the Legislature to save billions of dollars for the future, and I made no lobbyist friends with my hundreds of millions of dollars in budget vetoes... but living beyond our means today is irresponsible for tomorrow. We took government out of the dairy business and put it back into private-sector hands - where it should be. We provided unprecedented support for education initiatives, and with the right leadership, finally filled long-vacant public safety positions. We built a sub-Cabinet on Climate Change and took heat from Outside special interests for our biologically-sound wildlife management for abundance. We broke ground on the new prison. And we made common sense conservative choices to eliminate personal luxuries like the jet, the chef, the junkets... the entourage. And the Lt. Governor and I said "no" to our pay raises. So much success in this first term - and with this success I am proud to take credit...

POPSBig Oil Ready to Reap Gains from War On Iraq Just over 20 of Iraq's roughly 80 known oil fields have been fully or partially developed, and most of its production comes from just three giants, North and South Rumaila and Kirkuk. Because lots of the black gold is considered relatively easy to extract, oil experts estimate that exploration and development in Iraq costs $1.50 to $2.25 a barrel, compared with about $5 in Malaysia or $20 in Canada. Lawmakers and some oil officials, meanwhile, say the auction will give too much access to Iraq's oil resources to foreigners. Mr. Shahristani also has been called to appear before parliament for questioning about alleged corruption and mismanagement at the ministry.

POPS 62 Million Voiceless Americans
Under the guise of saving the economy, the feds have taken over banks, insurance companies and car companies, prompting even thug dictator Chavez to joke, “Hey, Obama has just nationalized nothing more and nothing less than General Motors. Comrade Obama! Fidel, careful or we are going to end up to his right.” Under the guise of saving us from those nasty capitalists, Obama has appointed a new Pay Czar to make sure no-one is paid more than the politicians deem they are worth. At least those who are unfortunate to work for companies that have received bailout funds. And in one case, the formerly sovereign state of South Carolina has actually been forced to take bailout funds, and accept all the strings that come with it. Consent of the governed is being ignored as the Obama administration hijacks ever more power to the federal government, in direct contravention of the 10th amendment and the Constitution. And 62 million Americans can do nothing except marvel at the audacity.

POPSWorld Oil Reserves Fell for First Time in 10 Years, BP Says The reserves may or may not be there. Everyone knows that the Saudi Arabia's and the other Gulf States figures are as opaque as they are suspect. And that hundreds of thousands of square miles of the Canadian boreal forest will be turned into a wasteland if these "reserves" are ever to be tapped. What people forget is that the price of oil can never be higher than people can afford to pay which means it is bound to come down as people have to reign in their spending, making exploration and ecocide "uneconomic".
