POPSFemale Fighters: We Won't Stand for Male Dominance Back in 1998, the fighters say, their now-jailed leader Abdullah Ocalan declared the group "a women's party." It was initially difficult to accept, says Karim, a 42-year-old male member of the PKK. Today, the PKK's ideology revolves around a belief that global crises and injustice are a result of millennia of male-dominated rule. Here, the women run their own assaults and have their own command structure. All tasks are shared, both on and off the battlefield. Discipline is paramount to survival, they say, and weapons are always clean and never out of reach.

POPSThe Love of Money is the root of all Evil The old saying goes that if it appears to be too good to be true it is. Easy credit has been the ruin of our financial houses. People have overextended in many areas and housing was just the next obvious liberal pursuit. Conservatives teach that less is more and learning to live responsibly in all areas of life is the best approach. Liberals would have us believe that you can have it all and at someone else's expense. The bible teaches that the love of money is the root of all that is evil.

POPSThe right Strategy may not be Enough for McCain "Lower marginal tax rates will reward work, investment, and risk-taking. They also will put money in people’s pockets as they keep more of what they earn." Kudlow is probably right, this does seem McCain's best shot. The problem is that it is too little and too old.

POPSNo Political Sermons?
The good old days when powerful politicians could stomp all over free speech. "The debate over Jones’s bill and Johnson’s amendment reveals once again how confusing and confused church-state jurisprudence is and has always been and will always be. Both sides claim that the other is violating the separation of church and state. Barry Lynn, a minister who is executive director of Americans United for Separation of Church and State, argues that “We just can’t have sermons converted into political advertisements for candidates,” and he warns against using “church collection plate money on an ad telling people” to vote for one candidate rather than another. " Oh come on. Seperating church and state is one thing. Stopping the clergy from making political statements is a whole different and very dangerous ballgame. Are you going to stop the clergy from speaking on immigration? How about speaking out about the plight of the poor? Should they stop making speeches about genocide? I

POPSAnd so the bailout begins... If Mr. Kashkari, is only going to be in his post for three months, that's a pretty good indication that the administration plans to use all $700 billion right away.

POPSNew Brunswick Veterinarians To Stop Cropping & Docking Good news for dogs! Too bad the breeders are so heartless and self-centered. vet: "People say it doesn't really hurt them, but they scream when you do it" Hopefully it will be illegal for anyone to crop or dock to discourage breeders from mutilating dogs, causing unnecessary pain and risking infection.

POPSOld Blighty, the birthplace of English "Collins' editors know that old words die hard — and that some people will vilipend (regard with contempt) any execution without a fair trial. So they've offered the chance of a reprieve. They have made public 24 words that face deletion because editors could find no example of their use in their database of English-language books, newspapers, broadcasts and other media. If, by February 2009, a word reappears in that database with at least six "high quality" citations, it could be spared from the semantic dustbin. "We're looking to see if dropping a little stone in the pond of language actually does generate ripples," says Brookes."

POPS'Old-boy's club holding back innovation We all now have access to a vast amount of research and data on the net. a Few people would have absolutely no hope, but the networks being created on the web, are places where anyone can comment, or include findings, so the pieces can start coming together more quickly. It isn't what we know that is important. it's what we do with the knowledge

POPSNYT: Obama "not close" to Ayers Hokum alert: Despite new smear ad, which fails to mention that Obama was 8 yrs old when Ayers was illegal, that Ayers is a trusted advisor on education to the City of Chicago, and that Ayers wrote "My memoir is from start to finish a condemnation of terrorism, of the indiscriminate murder of human beings."

POPSOhio woman, 90, shoots self during eviction; Fannie Mae forgives loan In 2004, Polk took out a 30-year, 6.375 percent mortgage for $45,620 with a Countrywide Home Loan office in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. The same day, she also took out an $11,380 line of credit. Over the next couple of years, Polk missed payments on the 101-year-old home that she and her late husband purchased in 1970. In 2007, Fannie Mae assumed the mortgage and later filed for foreclosure. Deputies had tried to serve Polk's eviction notice more than 30 times before Wednesday's incident, Sommerville said. She never came to the door, but the notes the deputies left would always disappear, so they knew she was inside and ambulatory, he said. Sommerville said Akron is creating programs to help people keep their homes. "But what do you do when there's just so many people out there and the economy is in the shape that it's in?" He added that many businesses and individuals have offered to help Polk.

POPSA Global Killer Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are giving back to the country where their 3-year-old daughter Zahara was born. The couple have donated $2 million to help fight HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis in Ethiopia, said the Global Health Committee, which announced the donation by the Jolie-Pitt Foundation.

POPSNo Gay marriage Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children. Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.

POPSAn Election Without Meaning Props, gossip, accusations, and public relations. It is impression management from a candidates’ perspective. How can we fool the most people into believing that we stand for something? It is billions of dollars of gravy for the media folks and continued profit maximization for the war machine, Wall Street, and insurance companies, no matter who is determined the winner in November.

POPSFour more years??? When you think about things like this, which nearly a decade of Republican rule in America has accomplished, it boggles the mind to think that this is actually a close race. Do people think that by voting back in the party that made things such an unholy mess, they're going to suddenly change their tune and fix everything they messed up? Let's not be ridiculous. The Republicans got what they wanted; 8 years of catering to the whims of unscrupulous profiteering companies, making the gap between the rich and the poor larger than it's ever been in America. Experience tells us it'll just be more of the same if they vote a senile, bad-tempered, hair-trigger old Republican into the office of President. So why aren't the polls showing a landslide for Obama? It boggles the mind!

POPSTNH: "Some things I know about moderating conversations in virtual space" It’s an inescapable truth that for some people, the most interesting way to participate in online discourse is to kick holes in the conversation. Others—many of them young, but some, alas, old enough to know better—have a sense of entitlement that leads them to believe that their having an opinion means the rest of us are obliged to listen to it. Still others plainly get off on verbally abusing others, and seek out conversations that will offer them opportunities to do so. Teresa Nielsen Hayden, who has been dubbed "the troll whisperer" for her moderation skills, on the dynamics of trolls and flamers, and how to moderate a discussion to encourage participation and discourage rudeness and abusive behavior.

POPSPagan group in danger of being dissolved Blakemore said PSA focuses more on learning about pagan religions than practicing them. Blakemore admits people might have some misconceptions about PSA, but thinks that even those who do not believe in pagan religions should go to a meeting. "You can come to the group and just check it out," he said. "We're not trying to convert anyone." Blakemore also realizes some people might take issue with the group's existence. "We've had people that have come to try and convert us. Most of the time they leave the group with a greater respect," he said.
