POPSCBS News: Obama's Just Kinda Making Stuff Up About Jobs "Saved or Created" This report is not worth the paper it is printed on. Here is how the government defines how well the stimulus is working: “If a single dollar of Spendulus was spent on an employee's salary, whether that employee was a new employee or an old one, that gets counted as a job "saved or created." If he's a new employee, that job was created. If he's an existing employee, that job was saved.” How utterly ridiculous and useless is this rule? Resorting to lies to pat itself on the back. Don’t they realize how much worse this makes them look when they resort to this type of glad-handing?

POPSPETA's dirty secrets: 7 things you didn't know about PETA
More: regularly target children as young as six years old with anti-meat and anti-milk propaganda, often waiting outside their schools to intercept them as they walk to and from class-without notifying parents.… PETA…fund the misnamed Physicians Committee for Responsible Medicine (PCRM), a deceptive animal rights group that promotes itself as an unbiased source of medical and nutritional information… PETA…billboards taunt Christians with the message that hogs "died for their sins."…And its infamous "Holocaust on Your Plate" campaign crassly compares the Jewish victims of Nazi genocide with farm animals. PETA has repeatedly attacked research foundations like the March of Dimes, the Pediatric AIDS Foundation, and the American Cancer Society, because they support animal-based research that might uncover cures for birth defects and life-threatening diseases…president Ingrid Newkirk has said that "even if animal research resulted in a cure for AIDS, we would be against it."

POPS48 Year-Old Blogger Has Gone 9 Years Without Spending Money "Of course, few would be willing to take such a plunge into a moneyless, ultra-low impact life. But simply knowing that Suelo has should be enough to make us think a long hard minute about all the stuff we heedlessly buy. Reverend Billy may be the head of the Church of Stop Shopping, but Daniel Suelo is its patron saint."

POPSFirekites - My New Favourite Music
Music for me is like clothing. You look in the wardrobe and at some point you scroll through and go, "nah, nah, nah etc" You might look at your whole wardrobe that way and when things are like that you know it is time to toss out the old and buy new clothes. Music is something I use a lot at different tmes, for different purposes. It is more than just reading or watching stuff - the music itself adds to the poetry of the songs. Can't help but tap my deeper inspiration through music - it allows that bird of inspiration to fly free and find new bliss. Yet, like clothing I can find myself squizzing through my CDs going, "nah, nah, nah... that's not it, that's not it..." and then I know it is time to find new music. So I have, "Firekites" are my current flavour for however long that keeps me inspired. Click the main link and you can listen to some of their music. It is chilled and very laid back, with meaning - so if you don't like music like that you probably won't like their

POPSNarrative distance
I haven’t dared to try any of these things yet. I just appreciate them when I see them. But I run into it nonetheless: reading my old attempts at novel-writing, I can see where I tried it without knowing that’s what I was trying, and screwed it up. Reading over more recent stuff, I can see the difference between character A and character B, the levels of sympathy and/or objectivity applied to their separate perspectives. I identify most easily with this character, and it is apparent in the story even when I made no conscious decision to choose one over the other. I am endlessly fascinated by this stuff. Writing a fictional first person perspective for the first time in –eek, 10 years at least– puts all this stuff front and center in my head. Because first person is instant intimacy, whereas with third limited, even a really close third limited, you have the option of pulling back just the tiniest bit, so that your reader can see that this character isn’t thinking clearly, or underst

POPSA Tale of Two Protection Rackets: ACORN’s — and The Media’s
This is the network that surreptitiously rigged GM pickup trucks in staged crash tests in 1993 to show that the vehicles were unsafe " and failed to inform viewers that the simulations used incendiary devices to ignite the explosions. This is the network that sent out an intrepid NBC News reporter in a canoe to cover treacherous New Jersey flooding in 2005 " only to be shown up by passers-by who sloshed in front of the camera and demonstrated that the water was only a few inches deep. This is the network that tried to arrange Islamophobia stings at NASCAR events in 2006 to try and “expose” racism among Southerners. The network worked with a Muslim activist who sent a recruitment notice across the Internet: They are looking for some Muslim male candidates for their show who would be willing to go to non-Muslim gatherings and see if they attract any discriminatory comments or actions while being filmed…NBC is willing to fly in someone and cover their weekend expenses.

POPSObama’s Connection With The ACORN
into his campaign… and they explain to them how to get on welfare, and how you keep your 14 year-old prostitutes quiet. You can’t make this stuff up about the left!!! While Barack Obama’s connection with the Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now (ACORN) has not gone entirely unreported, it has not been fully explained. Most media background pieces simply note Obama’s involvement in a 1995 lawsuit on behalf of ACORN. Obama’s own website, as well as most major media, fail to reveal the full depth and extent of his relationship with the organization. Attempts to hide evidence of Obama’s involvement with ACORN have included wiping the web clean of potentially damaging articles that had appeared, and were previously publicly accessible. Unfortunately, those behind the attempted cover-up failed to realize that in today’s day and age, nothing disappears forever. There also exists another layer of the web, the hidden web, which is full of information included in . . .

POPSFaster Than the Speed of Whaaa? Yes I know it's a pic of the New York skyline, but, what do you want from a Chinese newspaper? My friends in Johannesburg use those Internet cafes to message me, we can't use the chat because it takes so long. When they use Google's gmail, on their cellphones, it is almost immediate. I don't understand much about this stuff, but I hope things do get better for that country. I don't know where they even got the $mil to get that underwater cable. I guess Zuma is trying to pull it off though. He has a lot on his plate already.

POPSWildfire evacuees grab pets and Bibles, then flee More: Lewis found himself surprised by his first reaction: He grabbed his Nikon digital camera, remembering his Gila Community College photography teacher’s instructions. “I don’t really know what I was thinking, except that I had to document this."… Finally, he realized he had to stop taking photographs and get out. “So I took my medical records, dog food, camera, laptop, clothes, a box of old photos of my children,” including his son with the head injury sustained in Baghdad and his 32-year-old art teacher daughter.” He also took his Bible and, of course, his two dogs — Karma and Smokey, an interesting combination for canine fire survivors. Later, he realized that he left all of his books and papers and schoolwork. He also left all his materials for the “diet craze” for which he’d signed up. “Left all that stuff behind — don’t know if that’s forethought or afterthought,” he mused.

POPSWoman tries to shoot down plane for being too noisy Now that's just plane crazy. The most surprising part of the story, is that the local police let her go on a $4,500 bond, once again proving that airport security is one big puppet show. While you and I were being searched for bottles of water, a 69 year old lady could walk right onto the runway of a municipal airport and shoot at landing aircraft.

POPSPoll: Gay Babies are Less Adorable Concern over being seen as a pedophile was a common thread in many of the responses. Douglas said, "I love babies." He quickly added "heterosexual babies. I don't love them love them; you know I love them like a father - a father who doesn't want to have sex with his children." When asked to clarify Douglas said, "like a heterosexual father, you know - no hugging and stuff like that." The five hundred participants were chosen at random from an email list. The list is comprised of people who receive a monthly newsletter from Focus on the Family. Many of the respondents listed the intuition of "just knowing" - as their primary means of identifying gay babies. There is still some doubt about the effectiveness of this technique when it comes to babies although it has been proven to work with adults. SATIRE
