It will always be that that those who habitually exempt themselves from the standards they set for others will endow themselves with much superiority. The progressive agenda is not a government by the people for the people, it is a government by the self-appointed elite for the people that cannot do anything were it not for a benevolent oligarchy.

Once Again...This is Not Capitalism
sahara
by sahara  9-8-2008    9
“I think that we’ve got to keep people in their homes,” McCain declared in an interview aired Sunday on the CBS news program “Face the Nation.” He continued: “There’s got to be restructuring, there’s got to be reorganization, and there’s got to be some confidence that we’ve stopped this downward spiral.” Obama proclaimed that the takeover should not be used to “protect investors and speculators who relied on the government to reap massive profits,” while McCain denounced “executives were making hundreds of—some billion dollars a year while things were going downhill.” The Republican candidate acknowledged, “This is the kind of cronyism, corruption, that’s made people so justifiably angry.” All of this is empty demagogy. The speculation, cronyism and corruption that pervaded the operations of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are emblematic of the parasitism and criminality of the America’s ruling financial elite as a whole.

BBC hates criticism
notareargunner
by notareargunner  8-21-2008
This is a blog the BBC, financed through mine and yours forced subscriptions - you do not have a say in whether or not you pay - because concern are raised in it as to the efficacy of the Beebs editing and reporting. Whilst the Beeb swapped and moved channels so that the elderly and dishevelled licence payer lost contact with their chosen sport, it appeared that the only sportsman that the Beeb was interested in was a brilliant Jamaican sprinter. As there was no British interest in the event, it could be assumed that sports where Brits were going for Gold would take full coverage. No. The Beeb could not even flash up on the screen that the events were going on- on a defined channel. And if they objected to the open reference to the winner of the 400 mts, lets get it straight. It was the courts that reinstated a woman who could not make it to a specified location, three times, but could get on the plane to China, for her to run against a proven drug taker, a competitor banned for drug u

The Shadow of Ryazan: Putin’s Government
merrie
by merrie  8-11-2008    1
In explaining his support for the American-led antiterrorist coalition after Sept. 11, 2001, Putin said that Russia had also been a victim of terrorism. This experience, however, looks rather different if the bombings in September, 1999 were carried out by the Russian government as part of an effort to preserve the power and wealth of a criminal oligarchy. The strongest indication that elements of the Russian government were responsible for the bombings, however, was the history of the supposed training exercise in Ryazan. In that incident, the FSB was forced to admit that they had put a bomb in the basement of a civilian apartment building because they were caught in the act. The incident began on the night of September 22, six days after the bombing of Volgodonsk, when police answering a call reporting suspicious activity discovered a bomb in the basement of a building. Experts arriving at the scene found that the bomb tested positive for hexogen. Read full article

The Wellsian not-so-new idea
willhelm
by willhelm  5-6-2008
"When analyzing the ideas and philosophies of liberalism today, if in comparison we look back at Wells’s concept of liberal fascism, we have a very close match. Yes, Wells’s liberal fascism is still alive, but that is not what it is called - It is called “progressive.” "Wells would become more of an activist concentrating his efforts on affecting global change by offering a collection of essays, books, and novels, which often began with the world rushing to catastrophe, until people realize a better way of living. It is not surprising then to know that it was Wells who penned the slogan “The war to end all war” and that he was a member of the Research Committee for the League of Nations believing it was a beginning step to fulfillment of this vision."

It's The Neoconomy, Dammit!
sahara
by sahara  1-14-2008
In other words, the few enjoy a rich lifestyle while the many share subpar incomes and poverty. Another characteristic of Third World countries is that a major portion of their fiscal expenditures is allocated to the military. In many Third World countries, the military is controlled by an elite or a small collection of the wealthy. Finally, in many Third World countries one finds that leadership is passed from one generation to the next, often via a close relative. Guess what country we are talking about now? Be thoughtful when casting your ballots! Only one candidate has a clear grasp of what needs to be done to return us to a sound economy, and they are being pushed aside by the elitist CFR members (both Dem and Rep) who will further our push into third world economy and dictator style governing.

"Man Of The Year" And Master Of The Universe
merrie
by merrie  12-21-2007    4
Belkovsky - who published a book about Putin's finances last year, and who is the director of the National Strategic Institute, a Moscow thinktank - claims he is confident of his assessment of Putin's hidden wealth. "It's not a secret among the elites",he said. Belkovsky adds that the west has misunderstood Putin and has been distracted by his "neo-Soviet" image. Putin, Belkovsky claims, is ultimately a "classic" businessman who believes money can solve any problem. In an interview on Wednesday with Time magazine, which named Putin its person of the year, the president vehemently denied that those inside the Kremlin were corrupt. Asked whether "some of the people closest to you are getting rich", Putin said: "Then you know who and how. Write to us, to the foreign ministry, if you are so confident. I presume you know the names, you know the systems and the tools.

Bush Lies Again...and again...and again
AtlLiberal

Make no mistake. Bush's real reason for this veto is his indebtedness to his rich friends in the insurance industry. He doesn't care about health care. He cares about profits and an economy based on the doctrines of Milton Friedman. Bush even made remarks to this the last time he vetoed this legislation saying that he would never allow "socialized" medicine in this country. What a dork.

Orwell vs. Huxley who will win? Interesting comparison at http://www.americansynergy.ws/Learning/Documents/Amusing_Ourselves_to_Death.htm

Free Elections Come First
merrie
by merrie  10-29-2007    1
Autocrats create state power over which they can exercise a monopoly, like the security forces. But they are the enemy of impartial administrative institutions that a developing society needs and that are essential for liberalism. Rather than strengthen the state, "autocrats habitually misuse the state."They keep institutions weak, unthreatening and under their control. The same is true of the rule of law. Minxin Pei, another Carnegie scholar, once had high hopes for the rule of law in China. Today he sees a "predatory" ruling oligarchy more interested in holding power and enriching itself than in building an impartial legal system. There are "dozens or even hundreds of rapacious, repressive autocrats . . . for whom the rule of law represents a straitjacket to be avoided at all costs."

Israel's NAZI Kingmaker: Russian, Israeli, French, Canadian, Angolan.
righthand
by righthand  10-10-2007    3
He travels on an Angolan diplomatic passport to avoid arrest. His Jerusalem soccer team has a notoriously racist, anti-Arab fan base. Chant of "Death to Arabs" are regular. He has said, "Any politician that I will support will be the prime minister." Yet a Knesset committee has openly took issue with his actions during the war, accusing him of acting entirely for political reasons. To his supporters, he is simply the natural result of an Israeli establishment that is so wrapped up in corruption and cronyism that it is unable to care for its citizens. One important opponent said, "There is a sense among some people," he said, "that democracy just didn't work for us, and we should be like the rest of the Middle East -- that we tried democracy and failed. He's an oligarch. Don't forget that a lot of his supporters are Russians. They're not familiar with democracy." Handling of Moscow News is widely viewed as hostile to free speech and raised questions about his ties to Russia.

Orwellian inversion of values and facts: US-American and Israeli conservatives' mind-lock
Rasmus
by Rasmus  9-15-2007    1
Observers of Israel and its influence within the United States see a long trend toward ideological convergence between the two nations, especially in foreign policy, war, economics, and propaganda. One of the little-noted fundamentals of this growing affinity is a mutual and increasing need and desire to justify unjustifiable acts and obscure incriminating truths. Self-defense = Aggression Security = Promotion of insecurity Freedom = Denial of freedom Democracy = Apartheid Religious freedom = Religious exclusivity Prosperity = Poverty Legality = Lawlessness Peace = Continual war Peacemaking = Democracy = Unconstitutional oligarchy, collective punishment, and civil strife = Illegitimacy and probable failure of any agreements reached between Israel and its partners = Continual (land-grabbing) war. The public’s acceptance of these inversions creates what McMurtry calls an “occupation of consciousness” .
