POPSIf People Paid More Attention This Wouldn't Be An Issue I can feel for the people in this story who were charged large fees for overdrafts of their accounts - but I can only feel so much. To me, this problem is mainly due to people trying to pass responsibility for themselves and their actions onto someone else. If you know you're close to being out of money in your account, you should be paying more attention to your balance - you should actually be doing this anyway. If you paid more attention, you'd know how much you had to spend, and wouldn't spend more than that. It's that simple people. Now I can understand the issue with banks forcing you into overdraft protection and not allowing you to opt out. It should be optional. But as for the fees themselves - it's an individual's responsibility to understand their accounts, know what they have available to them, and only spent what they have. Getting upset is just failing to take responsibility for your actions.

POPSI agree but... I'm mixed on this one. I agree most banks are a bit deceptive with their overdraft practices. They automatically sign you up for the overdraft service that they charge an insane amount for, but make you read the fine fine print to get the details. Banks should make this service "opt-in" only - people would have to officially agree to it and sign a contract for it. Otherwise, they just decline purchases. That said however, people should be more careful about knowing how much money they have and spending accordingly. Many banks now even offer balance tracking on a Web-enabled phone, in addition to online, so you should be able to know what you have. I have a strong feeling - outside of mistakes of bloopers here and there (like the one presented in this article - ridiculous the bank wouldn't post the money into the account) - most people that get hit with these I imagine are getting hit because they're not paying attention to their money.

POPSFREE email: Drill Now -- Stop the Gang of 10 The compromise plan offered by the Gang of 10 limits drilling to 50 miles off the coast of a few states, not all, and depends on an opt-in by those states. There is no mention of ANWR or of developing America's oil shale. Doing nothing is actually a better option than the compromise of the Senate's Gang of 10 because the oil drilling ban imposed by Congress expires on September 30. Democrats in Congress must renew this ban in order to continue to block America's access to her own oil. Due to Senate rules the minority may be able to block that renewal unless the Gang of 10 prevents it. Sen. McCain has not yet agreed to this compromise. Tell the Senate, the Gang of 10 and especially John McCain that voters don't want compromise with Democrats. Voters want to Drill NOW!

POPSThe error of conteporary ethics: values from nowhere?
Looking at the above list, we can see certain regularities; they don’t constitute a random collection of properties for a human life to have. One thing that comes to mind when browsing through the list is that a large number of these terminal values are also quite widely useful instrumental values. In fact, they remind me of my own idea: Universal Instrumental Values (UIVs) In attempting to answer the question “are there goals which are objectively good to adopt, and if so what are they?”, we should take note of the apparent regularity here: when choosing their notion of terminal value, people tend to opt for those qualities that also happen to be instrumental values for a wide variety of other goals. This observation supports the idea that there are objective values in our existence: - a priori, people can choose whatever terminal values they want, but a posteriori they usually choose UIVs; things that are just universally useful. And these things are, of course, dictated by the

POPSCheap bad credit unsecured loans:viable solution for financial proble A fund shortage during an emergency is a devastating situation but not uncommon, since I am sure many of us must have faced it. A timely loan can save the day but securing such a loan, needs careful consideration. Any individual with a bad credit history to his name and no property to be placed as collateral against a loan, would find it difficult to get a convenient loan option for his needs. Also, if a lender were to provide a specific loan for this category of borrowers, it would come with a high rate of interest. However, if you are looking at the ideal solution for your financial troubles, then you could very well opt for the smart choice of cheap bad credit unsecured loans, that are offered by some reliable financial lenders.

POPSWhy Does The Government Keep Protecting People from Their Stupidity These credit rules are just the latest in a long line of our government feeling the need to protect consumers from their own ignorance and stupidity. I'll be the first to admit credit card rules and fees are difficult to understand. But consumers should be smart enough to know this, and not get in situations where they spent more than they can afford on their cards and end up paying these fees. Pay your bills on time and late fees aren't an issue. Don't charge more than you can afford to pay back at the end of the month and finance charges aren't an issue. There's no need for additional government legislation around this. If the gov really wants to spend our taxpayer money wisely, spend it on education programs to teach people how to be smart with their money.

POPSIs The Thrill Gone For Obama Supporters?
Obama Fades? I can't speak for anyone else but for me his glow has dimmed, since he started wearing that flag lapel pin. While living through years of the worst president the US has had at the helm, I could identify the enemy or the Bush supporters by their Bush/Neocon fraternity pins. And I could direct my anger even before the Bushy sycophants opened their bombastic collective rhetorical pie-holes and blather the some ole, same ole. So the flag label pin had become a symbol of pretentious superciliousness to me. Of course, with Obama pandering to the "R's" and the "I's" who voted for Dubya and helped ruin our country and make us a laughing stock all over the world (Remember the headline from the UK’s Daily Mirror: How Can 1,230,065 People Be So Dumb?) may have a little to do with the Obama Fade From Grace. But that PIN is all I see when this eloquent orator takes center stage and its glare has a blinding effect on the reflection of the man behind that "R" studded brooch. :-(
