POPSJune 20, 2008: Summer Solstice (Northern Hemisphere) Summer Solstice Fun Facts * Pagans called the Midsummer moon the "Honey Moon" for the mead made from fermented honey that was part of wedding ceremonies performed at the Summer Solstice. * Ancient Pagans celebrated Midsummer with bonfires, when couples would leap through the flames, believing their crops would grow as high as the couples were able to jump. * Midsummer was thought to be a time of magic, when evil spirits were said to appear. To thwart them, Pagans often wore protective garlands of herbs and flowers. One of the most powerful of them was a plant called 'chase-devil', which is known today as St. John's Wort and still used by modern herbalists as a mood stabilizer. Celebrated in the Southern Hemisphere on: December 21, 2008 at 10:04pm AEST.

POPSPope Mesmerizes Bush Toward Catholicism, Religion of Tyrants
Not surprising considering his religious superstition, theological ignorance, and false Christian views of war (contrary to Christian principles of "Just Wars" of self defense alone) and worship of democracy as a means of saving the world through military Crusades. He would fit right in with tyrants of Holy Roman Empires of the past. The Tower of St. John impressed him--Rome mesmerizes its ignorant victims through superstition, priest-craft, and relics and symbols, without which it is essentially empty. By the way, this is not to let pagans escape, for some of them were also among the greatest tyrants of imperial wars as well--i.e. Alexander the Great (who was a bisexual pedophile), Caligula, Nero, Pharaohs of Egypt and Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon to name a few. Babylon the Great is typified in the Bible as a final world empire that will be destroyed, headed by a false Christian leader, whom the Reformers believed were Roman Popes but would also fit false Christian presidents

POPSPagan prisoners win right to have wands there's genuine concern prisoners are taking the system for a ride." Conservative MP Andrew Turner, who uncovered the new ruling, added: "This strikes me as bizarre. A lot of people would be worried about equating paganism with Christianity.". Brightest Blessings to Justice Reform Minister Maria Eagle. To Edward Garnier and Andrew Turner - grow up. Christianity is NOT "all that" to everybody.

POPSSt. Patrick's Day Parade in Japan
Patrick is also credited with banishing all the snakes from Ireland. This is probably a metaphor for his driving the pagans from Ireland as snakes were often associated with pagan worship. Another well known legend had Patrick using the shamrock (which resembles a three leaf clover) to explain the Trinity as the Father, Son, and Holy Ghost. He died on March 17th 461 at Saul and is believed to be buried in Downpatrick. And so it was that a young Briton named Patricius died an Irishman named Patrick.Every year on March 17th his death is celebrated around the world. On March 17, people all over the world will be join the Irish to celebrate Saint Patrick's Day, the death of their patron saint. Cities like New York and Boston will have large parades in which shamrocks, leprechauns and the colour green will predominate. Chicago will even dye its river green. No matter where you are, on Saint Patty's Day you will see the colour green worn more than on any other day of the year.

POPScreationism I've done a bit of reading lately on the evolution vs creationism debate, and being at the stage where I'm not sure what exactly I believe myself, the more I want to read. I believe in the theory of evolution, but at the same time, I don't understand the whole 'big bang' theory. There's got to be more to it, and I'm not a scientific person - I just don't get it. Creationism.... I'd like to believe that there is a force out there that designed the world. I don't really identify with any religion or spiritual view, but I do quite like the ideas of the pagans. I have many more years of study and research before I choose my path. Anyway, have been reading The God Delusion and today at work came across Richard Hawkins' website. It's fascinating reading, but I have to say, was very concerned when I came across the below article (obviously, have just clipped a tiny, tiny bit of it). I don't know much about American politics (we're both democratic countries, but it's done so diff

POPSMore Pagan Than Pagan I live next door to a church. Really, I could throw a rock from our balcony and hit the steeple... not that I am suggesting anything. Anyway, the church provides endless hilarity as I drive past it to get to my parking lot, what with its Harvest Festival pumpkins festooning their lawn and large banner advertising the harvest season. I suspect this vaguely pisses off all the pagans, though really they should be used to having their holidays hypocritically pilfered from them ever since Yule went the way of Christmas. I wonder what would happen if I went over there with a magic marker and decorated their pumpkins with pentacles... Well, it seems I'm not the only one to live near enough to a church to notice this happy irony:

POPSU.S. was not founded as 'Christian' nation America was founded on Enlightenment principles, not Christian principles. Americas laws are based not on christian principles, but on Roman Law, and Common Law which was handed down to us from Teutonic pagans! (Common Law existed BEFORE there was any Christianity, as did Roman Law.)
