Haaretz editor: Israel facing existential crisis
jklugman
by jklugman  7-24-2008
The outgoing editor of the Israeli newspaper Haaretz spoke at the London Jewish Book Week. On the 2005 Chris McGreal series that appeared in the Guardian, comparing Israel to South Africa: Landau was "outraged" by the articles at the time, but went on: "I don't feel like that any more. I don't feel that my outrage did sufficient justice to that piece of journalism because I feel that we in Israel have got ourselves into a situation in which we will indeed be facing a South African dilemma. "We will have a country in which we will become the minority and the majority will be denied their political and civil rights. When I re-read the Chris McGreal reports I no longer feel necessarily that that was totally tendentious. It might have been a prophetic piece of journalism. But the point is that the outrage which I gave voice to was an inadequate reaction. The reaction should have been: 'has he got a point?'"

Messiah Lies About His Senate Committee Assignment

by merrie  7-24-2008    5
John explains the rest: But Obama is not a member of the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee. Obama just made that up so he could count the committee's action as one of "my deeds." If committed by a Republican, this would be a gaffe of historic proportions. Even a Senator as inattentive to his duties as Obama certainly knows what committees he serves on. For him to fabricate the claim, out of whole cloth, that the Senate Banking Committee is " committee," strikes me as another sign of Obama's megalomania. That, plus more evidence that he is totally at sea without a teleprompter. Illinois Senator's Record Of Inaction Leaves Him Discredited WASHINGTON, July 14 /PRNewswire-USNewswire/ -- The following is being issued by the Republican National Committee: As Chairman Of The Subcommittee With NATO Oversight, Obama Has Failed To Hold Any Hearings On Afghanistan:

From criminal, to terrorist, to killer, to Prime Minister, to Nobel Peace Prize winner, yes it had to be a Zionist. Menachem Begin was commander of the Irgun terrorist gang then more infamous and feared than today's al Qaeda . Begin wrote in his memoirs, The Revolt: " History and experience taught us that if we are able to destroy the prestige of the British in Palestine, the regime will break. Since we found the enslaving government's weak point, we did not let go of it. " Words that could be about the USA instead of the Brits by al Qaeda and not the Prime Minister of Israel. Any Arab terrorists have a long long way to go in the terrorist league to catch the Zionists.

Occupied Palestine: Worse than South Africa under Apartheid
Spiritualmonkey

If the people who lived under and struggled free of apartheid say "This is worse", the world needs to listen up and take note. South Africa was made a pariah state by the WHOLE WORLD because of Apartheid. And what Israel is doing, according to those who lived it, is WORSE than what PW Botha et al did.

Palestine: The State History Forgot
righthand
by righthand  7-9-2008    4
Is it a joke of history that before there was the states of Lebanon, Jordan, Israel, Syria, etc there was Palestine? Now they all exist and Palestine doesn't yet. You will read that there never was a Palestine from a certain quarter and how can you miss what you never had. How you know they are lying! They'll say that as they are all Arabs that there's enough room for them all. It's like saying that the Scots Welsh and Irish are all Celts and one state would do them all! Yes, there was a time when such thinking was regarded as valid. If we had the Age of Imperialism back then the Brits might validly have a claim on the USA and most of the rest of the world. In the present imperialism, if the existent holder of the gunboat diplomacy role, the USA, decided to sort out Palestine's present difficulties it could in a breath. Hopefully in a more honourable fashion that the last gunboat holder did.

Secret memo shows Israel knew Settlements were illegal
ratilfar
by ratilfar  7-6-2008    2
The argument that the settlements are illegal, stated in successive UN resolutions, and by the International Court of Justice advisory opinion condemning the separation barrier in 2004, is reinforced by such an authoritative source. It strengthens the political case in any "final status" negotiations on borders with the Palestinians for genuinely equitable land swaps of Israeli territory to a future Palestinian state if Israel is to retain settlement blocks.

Obama's missteps
Rasmus
by Rasmus  6-21-2008
Obama's unnecessary promise deviates from nearly six decades of U.S. foreign policy that held Jerusalem to be occupied territory under international law. This long tradition was first broken in 2004 when President Bush acknowledged Israel's demands to keep its illegal West Bank settlements in a final peace agreement, including those around Jerusalem. Thus Obama, a Harvard-trained lawyer, would both scorn the international legal system's foundational principle -- the inadmissibility of territorial acquisition by war -- and echo President Bush, whose failed Middle East policies he has rightly deplored. If Sen. Obama's Philadelphia speech on race was a model of courage and nuance, his AIPAC talk was brimming with the pro-Israel orthodoxy that typifies this year's presidential campaign. Like presumptive Republican nominee Sen. John McCain, Obama also backed Israel's so-called right to exist as a Jewish state.

Uri Avnery: Apologizing for past wrongs as a part of modern political culture
Rasmus

I BELIEVE that peace between us and the Palestinian people - a real peace, based on real conciliation - starts with an apology. In my mind's eye I see the President of the State or the Prime Minister addressing a special extraordinary session of the Knesset and making a historic speech on the following lines: MADAM SPEAKER, Honorable Knesset, On behalf of the State of Israel and all its citizens, I address today the sons and daughters of the Palestinian people, wherever they are. We recognize the fact that we have committed against you a historic injustice, and we humbly ask your forgiveness. Uri Avnery Deutsch: Frieden in Israel und Palestina - Texte von Uri Avnery

Israel: Massive Rocket Barrage In South
merrie
by merrie  6-12-2008
It was the first indication that the blast was caused by an accident, a claim earlier made by Israel "We deny any connection to this incident," IDF spokeswoman Maj. Avital Leibovich had said, adding that the army had not been operating in the area at the time. Meanwhile, IDF soldiers opened fire at a car that approached the border fence in northern Gaza. The army said the Palestinians in the vehicle apparently attempted to infiltrate Israel. Earlier, three Palestinian gunmen were killed by IDF soldiers operating in Gaza. The army said that two gunmen were identified alongside the security fence near Beit Lahiya and were fired upon by Givati Brigade troops, who confirmed a hit. A third operative was killed in an IAF air strike in the nearby Jabalya refugee camp. Palestinian sources claimed that Fatah operatives had attempted to infiltrate an IDF outpost in the northern Gaza Strip and were killed in the ensuing gun battle.

McCain: Obama's Positions Are So Changey
merrie
by merrie  6-7-2008
WASHINGTON (AP) - Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama tried to please a pro-Israel crowd this week by saying that Jerusalem should be the capital of Israel and that the holy city should not be divided. That angered Palestinians, who claim part of the city, and Obama clarified his remarks to say that the fate of Jerusalem should be a matter for negotiation. That angered some Israelis and their U.S. supporters. By week's end no one was happy. http://apnews.myway.com/article/20080606/D914QUV82.html

Obama, Ayers, Woods Fund, AAAN

There's too much here - combined together is William Ayers, a domestic terrorist who didn't believe he didn't go far enough, and Columbia University professor Rashid Khalidi a founder of AAAN, who also held a fundraiser for Obama. Khalidi is a harsh critic of Israel, has made statements supportive of Palestinian terror and reportedly has worked on behalf of the Palestine Liberation Organization while it was involved in anti-Western terrorism and was labeled by the State Department as a terror group. Where does Obama's association with terrorism end?
