POPSRight Christians vs. Wrong Christians Friends, I can't even go on here. Look at my face, see how flushed I am? You get me going on about the Catholics and I'm likely to have a heart attack. I just thank God that everything our youngsters know about the Catholic Church is what they've been hearing on TV. Most of our Truly Saved® Christian children are so terrified of priests that they can't even sleep at night. Let's open our hymnals to page 217 - Just As I Am, singing from the second stanza. . . "Just as I am. . ." Truly Saved® Christians The content of the clip was written by a pastor! *Real* Christians of course have a registered trademark and a $750 million budget. If anyone can spot the teachings of Christ anywhere in this "sermon", would you please point them out to me? I seem to be temporarily blinded by the hypocrisy of it all. But let's open up youtube and have a little sing-a-long, shall we? Praise the Lord. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ugZq9hiuCJo

POPSTempe pastor prays for president's death "Chris Broughton, the 28-year-old Tempe resident who gained national notoriety after carrying a rifle to protest President Obama's appearance last week in downtown Phoenix, has said Anderson is his pastor." If that's what God wants I am nothing but delighted to be an atheist!

POPSIs God Trying To Talk To Someone In America? What's worse, many pastors avoid talking to their congregations about repentance and self sacrifice. So, like the vampire Lasat, they drain them of true spiritual life, while seducing them with voter-pamphlet sermons and feel-good theology. The organized church is in big trouble today--the message of repentance is a flat subject among churchgoers. People want to pull a voting lever, offer vocal support for whatever politician pays lip service to a few hot-button social issues, and shout hallelujah as they drive off in their Lincoln. Satan smiles and waves as they go by. What America needs is a repentant, spiritual church, not the political arm of a dominionist cult. Want to argue that point? Do it with the God who says, "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."

POPS "Media Malpractice" John Ziegler's Movie Kudos to Kevin Ferris for having the mettle to write about Media Malpractice. It takes a certain strength of character to step back and examine the actions of the media during the past election cycle. Even more so when it is your chosen profession. Perhaps Kevin should hand out copies of ‘Better‘ along with this article to his fellow journalists at the Inquirer. They need all the help they can get! I found a great video of John Zeigler talking about the media’s reaction to his film. He jokes about having enough material from the reception his film received to make a Media Malpractice 2 - only I don’t believe he was joking. POPSThen Let Them Pay Taxes If ministers want to use their non-partisan churches to preach partisan politics, then let them get a tax bill and explain to their parishioners why it needs to be paid. It's not as if the US budget couldn't use the extra revenue.

POPSPalin linked electoral success to prayer of Kenyan witchhunter
An African evangelist, Pastor Muthee has given guest sermons at the Wasilla Assembly of God on at least 10 occasions in his role as the founder of the Word of Faith Church, also known as the Prayer Cave. The pastor speaks of his offensive against a demonic presence in the town in a trailer for the evangelical video “Transformations”, Pastor Muthee founded the Prayer Cave in 1989 in Kiambu, Kenya after “God spoke” to him and his late wife Margaret and called him to the country, according to the church’s website. The full Transformations video featuring Pastor Muthee’s story has recently been removed from YouTube but the rest of the story is detailed in a 1999 article in the Christian Science Monitor, as well as on numerous evangelical websites. According to the Christian Science Monitor, six months of fervent prayer and research identified the source of the witchcraft as a local woman called Mama Jane, who ran a “divination” centre called the Emmanuel Clinic.

POPSWhy Oprah Winfrey Left Rev. Jeremiah Wright's Church
Of course, Hamas does the same thing, and for the same reason - to cultivate an air of legitimacy while raising a crop of hatred. How admirable that concern for her money-making ambition led Oprah to leave Wright's hateful pulpit. How sad that Obama didn't recognize the danger to his political ambition. What a tragedy that neither Oprah nor Barack could recognize the destructive, bitter hatefulness that permeates this so-called house of God. Or just didn't care beyond appearances. Why Oprah Left Wright's Church Winfrey was a member of Trinity United from 1984 to 1986, and she continued to attend off and on into the early to mid-1990s. But then she stopped. A major reason—but by no means the only reason—was the Rev. Jeremiah Wright. According to two sources, Winfrey was never comfortable with the tone of Wright's more incendiary sermons. Winfrey cited her fatigue with organized religion and a desire to be involved with a more inclusive ministry.

POPSRezko, Wright, And Ayers If you are looking for the audio and transcripts of Pastor Wright's two sermons, they are here. In an effort to provide "context" I will try and obtain and play the entire audio of his NAACP speech from yesterday on today's program. (Michelle Malkin has a round-up on this astonishing speech.) If time permits, I'll replay the sermons as well, even though I played all the audio out there from both on Friday's program. They are the "primary documents" of the controversy, and deserve a wide audience. I suspect the pastor will make more news at the National Press Club, and I'll play that audio as well.

POPSChristian Science Monitor on Reverend Wright - Did Obama's Pastor Preach Hate?
What people hear depends on their own experience and worldview, says Teresa Brown, who teaches the art of preaching at Emory U. in Atlanta. "I listen to 60 sermons a week by black and white pastors, you can find something in almost any one that is offensive to somebody." The key as to whether language is hate speech lies in a preacher's overall message, according to Martin Marty, of the University of Chicago Divinity School and renowned historian of religion. Dr. Marty, who has visited Trinity many times, says, "If Wright only had whites in his searchlight, you might call it . But he goes after the men in his church" about fatherhood, he puts himself and his people under the prophetic spotlight. "The black church took the distorted version of Christianity that provided the religious justification for slavery, carved out the racist elements ..and implanted new content that actually moved Christianity in this country closer to Jesus' message," says Dr. Braxton.

POPSRev. Jeremiah Wright isn't the problem It's not surprising that the right is using Wright to paint Barack Obama as a closet Farrakhan, trying to let the air out of his trans-racial balloon by insinuating that he's a dogmatic race man. But beyond the fake shock and the all-too-familiar racial politics, what the whole episode reveals is how narrow the range of acceptable discourse remains in this country. This is especially true of anything having to do with patriotism or 9/11 -- which have become virtually interchangeable. Wright's unforgivable sin was that he violated our rigid code of national etiquette. Instead of the requisite "God bless America," he said "God damn America." He said 9/11 was a case of chickens coming home to roost. Now we must all furrow our brows and agree that such dreadful words are anathema and that no presidential candidate can ever have been within earshot of them.

POPSObama's new pastor So, Wright is Jesus, the rest of us are the evil Romans and Jews who killed him, and he mentioned the latest unmentionable word which now ranks up there with the three "N" words (you know, nappy, noose, and that other one) multiple times. Glad to hear they have toned things down to help their boy win. Who's side are they on anyway?
