POPSNewt Gingrich Blasts Proposed $700 Billion Bailout Plan
This idea that we're going to buy the paper and some bureaucrat in Washington is going to be responsible for $700 billion in bad paper, I think, is socialism at its worst. I can't imagine why this administration is doing it. I think it is profoundly wrong, and I hope it is defeated if it comes to the floor in this form. GINGRICH: Well, if this is going to be rewritten, they ought to be prepared to meet all weekend. They ought to postpone the debate. I think it would be a tremendous sign for America and the world if Senator Obama were to work side by side with Senator McCain, jointly try to develop a joint bill. It think it would be a great act of the patriotism and good for the whole country, and I think it would put them beyond partisan maneuvering. So I would hope that Senator Obama would reconsider. I think the idea that Senator McCain is prepared to work while Senator Obama wants to go talk doesn't speak well for Senator Obama's judgment.

POPSBush's Financial WMD Speech, Fear to Force Consent Did Bush's speech sound eerily familiar? It should. It's patterned after a more successful one that produced fear and coerced Congress to act. This Clipmark juxtaposes Bush's financial "mushroom cloud" speech --a Warning of Mass Destruction , which he employed last night to manipulate the people to push Congress despite their better judgment-- against his earlier fear-mongering Iraq WMD speech of 2002 urging Americans that "we must act now" and not delay or we could face a "mushroom cloud". The purpose and the pattern of these two speeches are remarkably similar, to use FEAR to cement national consent for bad and unjust policy. And we know the earlier one was entirely bogus. Fortunately, Congress, particularly the fiscal conservative minority among the GOP (who fear losing their base who are calling them socialists) resisted and did not close unjust bailout deal.

POPSNOT OIL-CRISIS--PERMANENT SHORTAGE Just doing the math and projected growth pattern, it becomes clear that they will never be enough oil were we to continue with oil rather than alternatives to fossil fuels.

POPSHaile, the robot drummer... Haile uses its wooden arms to play a Native American powwow drum, facing a human drummer and striking the opposite side of the same drum. The robot detects the rhythm, loudness and pitch of the player's drum pattern and perfectly mimics their actions. Haile then improvises by dividing, multiplying or skipping beats. "This creates variations of the user's rhythm while keeping the original feel," Weinberg says. Wow.. :) it/she/he plays much better than me...

POPSRe: Obama, the World's President [Mark Steyn] You mean economic sanctions? Expulsion from the Olympics? Moving the Oscars to Belgium? Jonathan Freedland isn't spelling it out but he's not happy: http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2008/sep/10/uselections2008.barackobama/print Mark Steyn said: British reports on the presidential campaign are weirdly reminiscent of coverage of pre-independence elections in ramshackle parts of Africa where the Colonial Office has picked out the chap it wants for Prime Minister six months earlier only to discover at the last minute that the wretched natives are too dim to go along with it. If you think Iraq isn't ready for democracy, it's apparently years ahead of America. As for the planet boiling, wait till November 5th.
