POPSWe just sent a letter to the VA Inspector General. "A single staff member, out of VA's 230,000 employees, in a single medical facility sent a single e-mail with suggestions that are inappropriate and have been repudiated at the highest level of our health-care organization," he said. In light of that remark, here is a portion of the press release VoteVets.org and CREW sent out this morning: In the wake of the disclosure by CREW and VoteVets.org of an internal VA e-mail advising VA mental health staff in Texas to consider a diagnosis of adjustment disorder in place of a PTSD diagnosis as a cost-cutting measure, both organizations have received new information from VA employees and veterans attesting to the fact that this practice is widespread and systemic. VA Secretary James Peake has repudiated the email as not reflecting VA policy. Details on the e-mail can be found here. Go to source for links

POPSOn building the Red-Green alliance "The absence however of wide participation from among the socialist left, outside the sponsoring organizations such as the Socialist Alliance, suggests that a lot more attention has to be invested by reds to turn green. The challenge thrown up not only by the Cuban example of sustainability — explained by Roberto Perez — and the ecological relevance of Marxism –as argued by John Bellamy Foster — gave many greens much food for thought and many lefts a lot of inspiration."

POPSMysterious people who appeared in the village of Woolpit in Suffolk, UK, in the 12th century. The children were brother and sister and they had green colored skin. Their appearance was normal in all other areas. They spoke an unrecognized language and refused to eat anything other than pitch from bean pods. Eventually their skin lost its green color. When they learned English they explained that they were from the ‘Land of St Martin’ which was a dark place because the sun never rose far above the horizon. They claimed that they were tending their father’s herd and followed a river of light when they heard the sounds of bells - finding themselves in Woolpit. Some of the more unusual theories proposed for the origin of the children are that they were Hollow Earth children, parallel dimension children, or Extraterrestrial children.

POPSHollywood Still Forcing Gay Actors to Remain Closeted Hollywood producers and studios continue to have little faith in movie fans, and believe that if an actor comes out as gay, they will stay away in droves. This problem does not seem to exist in Canada, Britain, France etc. I can't help but wonder why it is that the U.S, even in these allegedly enlightened times, continues to be fearful of gays. I know the original Puritanical basis of the country is often blamed, but we must remember, those Puritans came from the same countries that are now much more accepting of homosexuals.

POPSBundeskanzlerin Angela Merkels Rede vor der Knesset (im Wortlaut) Merkel stressed that the German government supports the Annapolis peace process . "Germany stands firmly behind the vision of two states within secure borders and living in peace, for both the Jewish people in Israel and the Palestinian people in Palestine." Germany, Merkel said, would "never abandon Israel, but instead will remain a loyal partner and friend." As in the past, Merkel's speech contained only homeopathic doses of criticism of Israel's occupation policy and its hesitation to commit itself to the peace process. "One must also have the strength to make painful concessions," the chancellor hinted, only to quickly dilute what had sounded like the beginnings of a rebuke. "In order to be a realist you must believe in miracles," she said, quoting David Ben Gurion, the founder and first prime minister of the State of Israel. spiegel.de

POPSCampus Gossip Sites - What to do? "Flaming," "cyberbullying" - call it what you will, but that is what these sites do. There are no ethics in the online world. It seems that who ever created this site, posted to this site, etc - is following the lead of Perez-Hilton, except these people are not famous. This is why you have to teach your kids about how to behave online. What will happen if your kids name is posted? your name?

POPS5500-year-old Plaza found in Peru Discovery of Caral (dated to 3000 BCE) was a shock for established archaeology, who rejected the existence of an ancient civilization in south America, prior to 1200 BCE. Now the discovery of Sechin Bajo appears to be a second shock, which pulls the date back to 3500 BCE. These two findings alone, show that Peru hosted an important, unknown civilization, 400 years before the Egyptian kingdom was founded by Menes and at least 250 years before the Sumerians took control of southern Mesopotamia. Amazing discoveries forces historians to reconsider their established "ancient history" cliches.
